The house was 4/5. Upon arrival, The fridge was ½ full of food (open milk, expired yogurt etc. (last renter we were told) leaving min. room for our food. We dumped most, leaving condiments etc. but certainly didn’t use any of it. The most disappointing thing was the lack of disclosure 1/5 by the owner-Jim. Let me say, he was a nice guy but he failed to disclose he had an apartment (APT) at the back corner of the Florida room & he was there 3 of our 4 weeks. NOT WHAT WE SIGNED UP FOR. It was not disclosed (PROPERTY SHARED) in the ad & it should have been. Had we known we WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED THIS HOUSE. We were caught in a bad situation, so we put on a happy face, tried to be cordial rather than make a bad situation worse. Jim wasn't around the back yard much, he did some maint. & he also took 3 people (a charter?) out on his boat 3 different days so we had Jim & 3 strangers in the back yard loading & unloading for 3 days. The APT also had a door between the Florida room & the APT that was partially blocked by a piece of furniture, but the door was in-opening & presented a security concern. The shared wall permitted conversations to be heard by the owner. The ad said there was 80’ dock & 36’ basin, but the owner had a boat in the basin & a floating dock, leaving 25’ of space under a tree at the dock for my boat. Lack of full disclosure was a big disappointment. Time is the most valuable thing we have and unfort. we cannot get our time back in a private setting.

Response from VrboOwner on 15 Apr 2026
This is a hard one to respond to as the renter asked me to come and take them fishing in the back country as it had been to windy for the first couple of weeks that they were there. I actually came and took them into the back country to one of my special areas that can be fished in almost any wind condition. I even posted a You Tube video of that trip on March 19th on the Cousin Jim You Tube Channel. If the fridge had open milk and yogurt that would be a mistake made by my house keeper and I have had a conversation with her as normally everything but Squeeze Bottle condiments are thrown out. It is true 3 of my friends came into town and I did pick up my Pathfinder boat one morning and returned three days later from my cousins house on Blackwater Sound were we kept the boat and met every morning to go fishing this was not at my home on Ocean Shores. If there were any concerns on the renters part they were not conveyed to me until this review. I have multiple rentals in the Florida keys and can usually accommodate anyone request for more or less interaction just communicate.
the renter asked why I did not tell him I have an Ice Machine and that it saved him many trips to purchase ice I told him that you never know what can trigger a bad review and my ice machine is finicky. If you have read all this I hope you see all positive reviews prior to and after this one.
This home was perfect for us. It was well equipped and very comfortable. The backyard was our happy place…located on a canal with lots of local wildlife. We ate our breakfast, lunch and dinner out in the tiki hut. We also enjoyed the seafood restaurants within walking distance of the home.
Jim was a delight to meet and very gracious. So glad to have the chance to meet him.
This is one of the nicest houses in Key Largo, if not all the keys, and I’ve rented more than a few. The backyard is a little piece of paradise. The giant tiki hut overlooks a picturesque canal that’s LOADED with sea life. Tropical birds are everywhere. It’s quiet and peaceful yet right around the corner from the best bars and restaurants in Key Largo. The interior of the house is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The landlord is the best, super accommodating and gracious. This whole property is truly a gem.

Very lovely restful home.
As has been said, do not judge the book by the cover. The exterior is nice, but when you open the door, WOW!
Interior is very wonderful and all amenities you may need are available.
You will enjoy!

A Fabulous get away in a beautifully remodeled home!
Jim did a GREAT job remodeling the home - it is deceiving on the outside as it is very spacious on the inside and welcoming! Very relaxing property on the canal and enjoyed kayaking, boarding, boating and seeing interesting marine life. The location could not be beat with so much in walking distance. This was our 2nd stay with Jim as he is very accommodating, helpful and sincere - there were 6 of us and we will all be back - look out Jim :) Thank you again for a memorable vacation!

Clean home with plenty of space and easy boat access
Glad we found this home for our vacation this May. The home was bright, spacious and clean. Jim was a great host and answered any questions we had right away. Also, if you're looking for a home on a canal to bring your boat, this place is perfect. The Atlantic is only a short drive down the canal. There's even a filet table to clean your fish. Thanks again for the nice accommodations, I would love to stay here again!

Wonderful Time
We had a wonderful time! Husband, boys (10 & 15), and I enjoyed our time here immensely. The home is lovely and the location is very nice. If you rent a boat, you have very quick access to the ocean. You’re 5 minutes from a grocery store and less than that from Walgreens. Lots of restaurants to choose from on Key Largo and just south on Islamorada. The boys enjoyed snorkeling in the canal where there was a school of parrot fish every day. And also loved using the kayak and paddle board available for use. The homeowner Jim is awesome! We met him on our second day there and he was happy to help with anything we needed. He even hooked up an ice maker so we wouldn’t have to buy ice for the cooler or fishing boat while we were there! I have nothing negative to say about this place and would definitely stay here again.
