Love love loved our stay! The weather was cold but the fireplace made everyone toasty! Very clean, huge couch which was a plus! Please take all reviews of the driveway seriously. We did not use 4W on the 4Runner, just shifted down to low gear. The Prius struggled up the drive, so we parked it for the weekend and just used the 4Runner. What a nice, family gather for a weekend, you can’t go wrong with this cabin!

Hi Nelson,
Thank you for taking the time to review our rental, A Mountain Oaks Cabin. We are so happy to hear you enjoyed the home and we hope to host you again soon.
Kindly,
Marissa & The Carolina Mornings Team
The house was well stocked with essentials. The family rug was not vacuumed (lots of animal hair), the furniture was not cleaned (lots of dust). The bedrooms were good and comfortable. The internet was down throughout our duration which was very inconvenient for working on laptop, netflex, and hotspot. No cell service until you were at the bottom of the mountain.
Driveway is very dangerous. 60 degree angle that requires sharp turn or you go right off the cliff. Balcony incredibly dangerous. Infested with spiders

Hello Linda,
Thank you for your review. Regarding your concern with the driveway, balcony, and reported spiders, we didn't receive any reports of these concerns beyond this review. We will share this with our field staff to investigate and remedy as needed. We hope you otherwise had a good stay, and thank you again for your review.
The property was very nice but there were mice in the walls which prevented our upstairs guests from sleeping in their upstairs rooms. It was so disappointing. Someone is aware of the issue, because there are traps under furniture. :(

Hello Loree,
Thank you for your review, and we apologize for any issues encountered with pests in the home. We were not aware of a pest situation during your stay, and the home has since been treated to address this concern. We hope you otherwise had an enjoyable stay in the mountains, and thank you again for your feedback.
Take the requirement that you need a vehicle that is 4 Wheel/All Wheel Drive for this house seriously. We have a Grand Jeep Cherokee and had a hard time getting up the driveway. The picture doesn't really show how steep it is. When trying to take a digital photo of it (even with our cell phones), it 'flattens' the angle for some reason. Wait till it rains, its even scarier.
Upon arrival, we got out of our car to a strong septic smell. Not sure if coming from the house it self or the next door neighbor. Regardless, the deck and outdoors around the house were completely unusable due to the smell. It was gagging.
House was not that clean. House keeper left a note that the power went out and that she couldn't finish cleaning. Not really an excuse, because you don't need electricity to grab some paper towels and Windex to clean.
Water tank must not be that big because after 15 min it ran out of hot water and then some cold orange/yellow water started coming out. Not sure how this would work if we were a larger family/group.
We contacted the property owner on our 2nd day to let them know of the issues. Only received an email that someone would contact us but no one did until stay was over and we were on the road back home.
There is a check out procedure on the fridge. One of the items that it asks is that bed sheets be removed for washing. We followed the instructions and for the bedroom on the main floor, we were absolutely disgusted when we took the mattress pad off. Numerous urine stains on the mattress cover. This tells me the cleaning lady isn't washing the mattress pad because how could she miss all that (so much for the cleaning fee they charge).
House makes ALOT of creeking noises when the wind is blowing. I thought the high ceiling was going to fall down on us at times because of the noise.
Wasps. Can't tell you how many of them we killed INSIDE the house. They seem to be coming from the upstairs bedroom with the 2 queen beds - where our kids stayed.
Area and neighborhood is beautiful (wish we could have enjoyed the deck), and is close to downtown. However, unless you are desperate for a home in this area, we would not recommend it.

Hello Kristina,
Thank you for your review and we apologize for any issues encountered at Mountain Oaks Cabin. We do advertise the property as being 4WD required because of the difficulty drive to the cabin. Your concerns on cleanliness and maintenance issues were relayed to our field staff and addressed as needed following your feedback. Thank you again for your review and we hope you otherwise had an enjoyable stay in West North Carolina!
We rented this house for a few nights to enjoy the area and go on a day rafting trip. The property listing is accurate and the driveway does require a 4wd and high clearance vehicle. We had a truck and a Subaru so we decided to rent. The driveway getting to the house is very steep and at a sharp angle we made it up with no problem. When we arrived the property was clean and in good condition. We had everything we needed and cooked several meals at the house. The gas grill is direct connected to gas so no bottle to worry about which is great. We did find that the house had low pressure/no water when we arrive. We contacted the maintenance number and they were out within the hour to fix it. Great response and the individual that came out was great and had it sorted in about 30 minutes. The house/roof does make quite a bit of popping noise at night I suspect from the change in temperature from the day and it can be quite loud if you are sleeping upstairs. It would last until ~11pm. We did have a bear come by the house and catch us at the car so keep your eyes open you are in their space. We had a great stay and would rent the house again.
We had a great stay and enjoyed the view at this home. The house has a cozy fireplace and all the amenities we needed.

Beautiful home close to Asheville and great hiking. We felt right at home here.
This house was perfect for our family of 5 and dog. It was a beautiful set up and the view was great. The house was super comfy and we felt right at home. The only difficulty was the driveway. It is very, very steep but we knew that when we rented the home. Carolina Mornings was awesome and was able to help us whenever we had a question. We would stay here again...no doubt!

Great house, but driveway is awful.
The house is close to downtown and beautiful. The views are great and the outdoor areas are secluded and quiet. The only negative is the driveway. It is EXTREMELY steep (the photograph really doesn’t do it justice) and pretty scary to go up. Coming down, we couldn’t find anyway to avoid scraping the bottom of our car (the street at the bottom of the driveway has many deep gouges from cars coming down before us). Maybe a car with higher ground clearance (we had a minivan) would work better.

Thank you for your review! We're so glad you enjoyed the home, and we agree that the driveway is a unique challenge at this property. Higher clearance vehicles definitely have an advantage, as well as guests who are are comfortable backing up their vehicles and are not bothered by steep grades. Once you navigate the driveway, though - WOW! The cabin is gorgeous and the views are amazing. We're so glad you were able to handle the driveway and got to have a wonderful time at Mountain Oaks Cabin!!!
