Great location, great Homestead. Our group of 14 thoroughly and enjoyed our time at the SpruceA few more amenities, a.k.a. a bigger TV, would have been nice, but overall a great place to stayCan’t beat the view
Had a decent group of guys for our bachelor party here and it was absolutely phenomenal. No need to go out in town due to the breathtaking views and area of where the house is located. The hosts were amazing and I would definitely come back in the future.
Every room, including the bedrooms, has a stunning view of Lake Michigan. It feels like you’re in California. Our group could not stop talking about how nice it was to wake up to the blue waters of Lake Michigan. Highly recommended!
We had our annual family vacation at the Spruce (family members from NY, Pittsburgh, Boston, and Michigan) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect (other than not having curtains on one of the bedroom doorwalls for morning sun shining in) for our large group and was very well equipped for our family cooking times. The sunset views were amazing and stargazing was great too! Having a lot of open space to share together (with three youngsters) was a bonus! I hope we can make it back on one of our future annual family trips!

Thanks for the wonderful review. Sorry, the curtain and fixture was pulled down by a guest. Maintenance reinstalled it.
House, views, location and cleanliness where all excellent. So much to do in the area. I would not hesitate in recommending this house to a large group. We had 22 (13 adults and 9 kids) and we found space for all with a couple air mattresses. I would suggest owners supply more towels and maybe 1 additional fridge but those items are very minor.

Dave and his guests were awesome. They kept the place clean. We would certainly recommend them to anyone they are considering booking with in the future. We look forward to having them back. Rick and the team at M22 Lakeshore Trail.

Needed more work
Really unfortunate to say that this stay was not carefree. The first night we got there we were caught in a storm, their windows were not leak proof, water everywhere, screeen door damaged due to it , rugs drenched. We were up all night cleaning floors and washing towels. We then had no WiFi for a few days , which is not what we were told and that did not connect smoothly. We then were dealt with an awful ( like throw up gag ) sewer smell on the second floor most of our stay. Come to find they chargerd me for the security deposit they say due to the screen door and the amount of linen they had to do wash. Really?! There were 22 if us, I would think there would be a lot of linen to wash. Ontop of all this, owners family would “stop”in whenever she felt like it. The stairs down the Lake Michigan are broken, no way to get to the beach from there. We had to ride into town which defeated the purpose.

The night of July 1,we did experience a Lake Michigan front line squall with 60 mph winds, dropping 2 " of rain in an hour, a storm with that velocity we have not seen in a four years. The week prior to your visit we did have rain and did not have any water intrusion into the house. It was a very stressful time for your family as well us as "Hosts". We did EVERYTHING we could to accomedate your needs, including giving you a full REFUND on your stay, minus the damage deposit, which partially went towards the cleaning fee and repair of a broken screen, several stained living room chairs & stained new mattress which could not come clean. We checked in with your family EVERYDAY, if we had been aware of the "smell" we would have addressed it immediately. The WIFI service was installed during your stay, unfortunately service had been delayed due an AT&T strike. The # of stairs to the beach access had been disclosed at the time of your reservation in April, we had experienced beach erosion which did effect approximately 30 stairs BUT there was access to the beach down a dune at the foot of the stairs. Your two hour late check out departure, made it difficult for our housekeeping crew to completely clean the 4,500 sq ft cottage in 4 hours prior to our next guests' arrival. A few days following your departure an insurance adjuster following up on a claim that you made on your travel insurance, came to the cottage "unannounced" while we had new guests. We are very sorry that you were not satisfied with what we tried to do to accommodate your needs and concerns during your stay. We will always do EVERYTHING we can to make our guests' stay enjoyable.
This property was a wonderful place for our friends to gather and celebrate a few birthdays. It was well stocked for the crowd, clean, and more spacious than expected. We loved the dining spaces and the view. The beds were very comfortable! Would def rent again!!!
We had a wonderful family Christmas at the Spruce House. They even put up a real tree for us when asked about holiday decor. All questions/requests were answered quickly. We highly recommend this site and look forward to returning for a future family Christmas celebration!
We had the pleasure of staying at this location this time last year and were excited to return because it was a wonderful place to stay with friends. Not only is the setting lovely but the house is well appointed with everything you’ll need for your stay. In fact, they added additional beds and another fridge over the last year. This made our stay even more comfortable and we had another great visit. We hope to return for more fun in the future.
Wonderful place for a big group! We really enjoyed hiking through the dunes and enjoying the four floors of space for our annual trip with multiple families. Highly recommend!
My family and I really loved this property. It was clean, spacious and the beds were comfortable. Loved the open concept, large kitchen area with plenty of seating. Loved being on the lake with spectacular views. I would definitely come back.
We stayed at the Spruce! Amazing views of Lake Michigan and beautiful sunset every night!! Ample space for our 3 families. We used the fire pit every night we were there! Totally amazing experience I would totally come back here again. We’re a family that travels a lot around the world and I’m going to tell you that this place ranks in the top 5 places we’ve ever stayed!! Amazingly clean, huge rooms, more than enough bathrooms, all the amenities and more than what you would need for a week’s stay.
We had multiple generations of our family staying over for three nights, and we had a terrific time. Kids played in the sand, we had a fire every night, and a couple of terrific sunsets. Two dining room tables and the overall size of the house meant we all had plenty of room to be with each other, but not on top of each other. The master bedroom needs to have the door resized, but everything else seemed in good order. The owners were very responsive to the few questions I had prior to checking in.

Why they chose this property
Lake Bluff Preserve is special because of the land and beauty of the Lake Michigan shoreline and South/West exposure. There are opportunities to find total seclusion or interact with fellow guests in the two other free-standing homes on the bluff.
What makes this property unique
Sweeping Lake Michigan vistas and nightly sunsets make this a very special place to vacation. Stunning views that show why the "Third Coast" is amazing.
