About this property

Garden Cottage - downtown Manitou Springs

The Garden Cottage at Agate Hill is a 2 story cottage with a covered porch, sitting room, kitchen and 3 bedrooms: 1 King upstairs, 2 bedrooms each with a full sized bed on the main floor. The kitchen has a nicely equipped kitchen with self-cleaning oven and stove, full sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker. Coffee, tea hot. The cottage has one bathroom on the main floor. We offer free off street parking for a regular sized vehicle.

All our cottages feature a king sized Select Comfort bed with additional bedrooms with either full or twin beds. Our cottages are cozy with Parlour Gas Log Stoves, air conditioning and kitchens. Our old fashioned bathrooms have original claw-foot (or clawless) tub/showers for soaking tired feet if you hike the Incline or our many trails. We have high speed WiFI, HD TV, DVD players, assorted DVD’s, Chromecast and Hulu Live TV, and a desk.

The Agate Hill Historic District is in downtown Manitou Springs. We are up on the hill so the views are great on a on a quiet residential street. We have almost an acre of gardens. Depending on how you count, we are about 6 houses walking distance to the Post Office and downtown. We have 3 cottages on the property and can host 14 people total. Manitou is hilly, so expect steps and stairs. We are a adult oriented property, which means we welcome quiet well supervised older kids; to be honest if you have younger kids, properties that have play areas and pools are more suitable. Our property is drug and smoke free in its entirety.

Manitou Springs located in the foothills of Pikes Peak just 11 miles west of downtown Colorado Springs via US Hwy 24. Explore the many hiking/biking trails by just leaving from the cottage. In just minutes walk to downtown Manitou and find art galleries, clothing, jewelry or specialty shops, small resturants, pubs or night life or our mineral springs. Within walking distance find Spa services at the SunWater Spa, Heritage Museum, Miramont Castle, Manitou Antique Arcade, weekly summer live music, weekend festivals. With in a mile or so the Cog Railway, Cave of the Winds and Cliff Dwellings.

The owner lives on the property and we feature local Manitou art work by Tina and Ken Riesterer. City of Manitou Springs has been named the world's first certified municipal Pollinator District.

What a view!

This property was like a step back in time. The cottage was quaintly decorated with period pieces from the 1950s, and only steps from the main area of Manitou Springs. The view from the porch is incredible. It feels you can reach out and touch the mountains. The host (John) was very accommodating and provided wonderful recommendations for activities and places to eat. Adam's Mountain Café is a must try. Best breakfast in Manitou Springs. We can't wait to return, and if when we do, I can't think of a better place to stay.

Little Gem in the Heart of Manitou

This is my 2nd time staying at Agate Hill in a month. The cottage is adorable, comfortable, cool and the host is fantastic. The location is awesome. It's in the heart of Manitou where you can easily walk to shops and quality restaurants. And you can't beat the view! This will become a regular place to stay for me when I'm in the C springs area!

Manitou Springs cottage charm!

We had a fantastic time staying in beautiful Manitou Springs and the property couldn’t have been better to experience the history and the charm of this lovely spa town. Situated on the hillside with views of Pike Peak from the pretty cottage garden and only a very short walk down the hill to the town it was like stepping back in time inside and out with cottage antiques and painted houses. John the owner and host was fantastic, so friendly and knowledgeable about the area and was very helpful in our daily excursion plans both locally and further a field! Highly recommend the property if you want to experience the real charm of Manitou Springs. A truly delightful stay, thank you John, we will be back!!

Highly recommend!!

This is our second time staying at Agate Hill and we loved it as much, if not more than the first time!! The Garden Cottage is roomy, cozy, beautifully decorated and clean. John is a wonderful host who does a great job at making sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. The town of Manitou is within easy walking distance but there is also plenty of parking if you decide to drive into town. The town provides plenty of fun shopping and eating! We highly recommend Agate Hill and trust that you will enjoy your stay.

Fantastic views Fantastic host

The Agate Cottage has outstanding views and is just a few blocks away from the adorable small town of Manitou Springs. The cottage is decorated in a garden theme with attention to detail. Beds are comfortable and AC was awesome. Most of our time was spent with coffee or wine on the front porch enjoying the view and then followed with a short walk into town for some eats. John was a fantastic host. We loved it so much we are returning a few weeks for another short stay.

Charming Cozy Cottage

John's Garden Cottage was perfect for our trip to Colorado Springs. It is a historic cottage filled with antiques and unique character. So much better than a cookie-cutter hotel! The three bedrooms were really comfy. (Note: the master with the king-bed is up a really steep flight of stairs. Not a problem for us and even if you can't do the stairs there are two beds downstairs.) The air conditioning was welcome after our days of exploring Colorado Springs in 92-94 degree heat! The little front porch was absolutely wonderful and we spent our mornings drinking coffee, enjoying the cool air, and admiring the view from there. The neighborhood is nice and quiet in the evenings and it's an easy 5 minute walk to downtown Manitou Springs. John sent us good check-in instructions ahead of time, was really friendly, met us when we arrived and showed us around. He was also there to collect the luggage that our airline lost and had to deliver to us! The cottage had lots of tourist brochures for local attractions. A couple of nice-to-know items: The kitchen had what we needed: coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave (there is also a stove/oven). If you're looking to cook elaborate meals this might not work for you as it's really small and the utensils, etc. looked basic. John provided coffee, tea, hot cocoa, sugar, coffee whitener, cookies, and some bars. Unlike some VRBOs we've been to, there were no food supplies left by previous renters at all such as mayo, butter, jam, pasta, spices, etc. If you have dust allergies you should consider another location. The cottage was very clean where it counted (floors, bathroom, kitchen, and bedding were all perfect) but the antiques and wall decor were dusty. Overall a wonderful place to stay and we enjoyed our visit very much! Thank you John

Views, views, views

We loved our 4 day stay at this little cottage. The porch was our favorite place to be and we spent much time there. You can't cook a gourmet meal there, but there are the basics. Beds are super comfortable. The only negative was having to pay $160 for an extra person. If you have a 3 bedroom cottage it should sleep 6, we brought 4 and had to pay for an extra person. Wonderful cottage though

Charming historical property with gorgeous view from the front patio.

Our family of 5 enjoyed staying in this lovely cottage so much. Being able to experience "living" there even for only 2 nights added a lot to overall impression of quaint Manitou Springs. All these original details and antiques in the house! Considering the age of the cottage it is pretty well maintained. The gardens seam a little wild but we still enjoyed spending time outside on the front patio admiring the view and the breeze and on the little front lawn playing croquet. If you want to utilize the kitchen I would suggest brining your own coffee and cooking oil as we did not find those here. Spices, tee, breakfast snacks were provided. And there is no dishwasher. The parking for our car was right next to the cottage - close and convenient. Only 4min walk to town center with Penny Arcade, you don't have to drive and deal with finding parking in downtown. To our host. John was very accommodating and a pleasure to talk to! Living here for ~40 years he has great suggestions and even offers tours. John, thank you for making our stay memorable!

Loved our stay at Agate Hill!!

We loved our stay in the Garden Cottage at Agate Hill! The cottage is beautifully decorated, very comfy, and provided plenty of space for the four of us. The cottage also faces the mountains, providing a clear, breath taking view. We spent many quite, peaceful mornings on the front porch, drinking coffee and enjoying the beautiful scenery. There is plenty to do in and around Manitou Springs, and the area has some wonderful hiking trails for all skill levels. John was amazing at making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He also had wonderful suggestions on the best places to eat, shop and explore. We will definitely be recommending Agate Hill to all our friends!!

Quaint cottage with beautiful view!

This cottage is a great find! Wonderfully decorated - themed rooms. Bed was very comfy. View was gorgeous. It had everything we needed. Porch and beautiful garden area to sit out in with your beverage of choice won't disappoint. Within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and activities. All of the merchants were very friendly and accommodating. John was a very gracious and patient host - at the ready with any recommendations needed. Thanks for your hospitality!

Garden cottage with wonderful views

We enjoyed our stay here. This cottage is tucked away on top of a hill, and owned by a gardener. John was great and provided suggestions of what to do and see. The cottage was nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable. I appreciated the electric blankets on each bed! And, Manitau Springs is great. Very enjoyable stay.
