Southold deal

A little house that had all the comforts we needed. Wonderful location and beautiful property. The house was on a pond which created beautiful waterfront views. The owner was very attentive and helpful.

Great yard and location

House and yard were as described. The location was close to everything yet had plenty of room for our dogs to play. Kitchen was equipped to be able to cook what we needed. Great stay in Northfork!!

Cute little house

Two of my older kids went for their first time to sleep away camp at Peconic Dunes we wanted to stay close so I rented this little cottage for my husband, 2 younger kids, my niece (to join for a few nights), and myself. It was right on the lake that my 2 older kids camp so we could hear the campfire songs at night. We spent our days going to all the local farms for our meats, veggies, fruit, cheeses, and tried a different pie every night. We brought our own kayaks for the pond and my 4 year olds caught fish in the evening. The sounds is a little walk and we would go in the am and evening. It’s permit parking only so you have to walk. On Friday Evening the local synagogue does a Shabbat service on the beach which was beautiful and my two little kids loved. We had to bring our own sheets and towels which o have never did and didn’t realize what a pain that was until we had to do it. The kitchen was stocked okay wish we had better knifes for cooking and a Big bowl for a salad. We did have a problem with ants even though I took out the trash every night. My husband and I ended up sleeping in the living-room every night because the only A/C in the house was in the living room and it was to hot other wise. We purchased a few fans to direct the air from the living room to the other bedroom that was being used. Lawrence responded quickly With questions.

Small cottage in nice surroundings

The North fork of Long Island have a lot of nice areas and bringing our dog for this short vacation renting this little house was a good option. The interior was old but very clean and in good condition. The garden was nice but we were a bit unlucky as it had been invaded by geese when we visited. Old and mixed style kitchenware, still we found everything we needed.

LOVE THIS COTTAGE

My family stayed here and absolutely loved the privacy ,peace and serenity of this natural setting. It really was like a step back in time....something very rare in Long Island these days. We daily went for long walks or sat at the beach which is an 8 minute walk away. Our grandaughter was entralled with the swans and I just loved the flowering shrubs. The house was clean and neat. If you are looking for glitz this is not the place for you but if you want spectular views and proximity to Greenport or the Hamptons, this is a great place to stay. I would love to stay up there again soon.

Great place to wind down

My family stayed in this house in the end of July 2011. We absolutely loved it here and had a fantastic relaxing vacation. The house is not new, but it is well maintained and cozy. It easily sleeps 4 people ( there are 2 twin beds in one bedroom and a full bed in another). The gem here is not the house though, but the property. It is huge, scenic and relaxing. You can play sports, enjoy a nap in a hammoc (bring your own) or go down to the lake right in the backyard and use your kayak or fish. The walk to the nearest beach is about 10 mins long and the beach is clean, sandy and beautiful (enjoy the sunsets - they are spectacular). It is very quiet and VERY dark at night which provides a great opportunity for star gazing. If you are looking for a glam vacation - go to the Hamptons. If you just want to relax and detox from the city life - this is the place to go. Overall, this is a perfect countryside place.

2/10 Terrible

Don't bother

If you are OK with dead bugs everywhere, an ant invasion in the kitchen, dirty dishes, pans that smell of fish, mildewed shower curtains and a bathtub that peels off what looks like latex paint, then this is the place for you. If you want a clean environment that doesn't smell like an attic and has amenities that are more recent than 1960, spend the extra money and go somewhere else. I rented this place with my boyfriend and another couple for a weekend and we were disgusted by the place and spent as little time there as possible. The landlord lives out of state and obviously has no interest in maintaining or even cleaning this house. Don't be fooled by the "lakeside" description- it is a scummy goosepond. To sum up, it's dirty, dark, and dingy and really not worth it.

I have enjoyed this property as a summer vacation home all of my life, and I now enjoy sharing with others who have yet to experience the rural pleasures of the North Fork.

Why they chose this property

This property is in an idyllic garden setting on the edge of Great Pond. In the morning you wake to the sounds of birds all around you and see the sparkling lake out of your kitchen window. In the evenings there are fabulous sunsets to the West over the lake and at night there is perfect stargazing with no disturbances of neighboring street lights.

What makes this property unique

What makes this property unique is its large size (1/2 acre+) and the large variety of natural environments it offers. Surrounding the house are trees, shrubs, and perennials of all kinds and further away from the house there are open and wooded areas with an abundance of other native and unusual introduced trees. At the water's edge, there are no neighbors to either side, giving you your own private views of Great Pond and yet another unique natural environment.
