About this property
Lookout Lodge
★ A 4-bedroom mountain lodge with long-range sunset views, built for the whole group.
Lookout Lodge sits high on a private ridge in Alarka Highlands, about 25 to 30 minutes south of Bryson City, on 2.3 wooded acres at around 4,000 feet. The reason you come up here is the view: long-range Smoky Mountain layers that turn gold at sunset, best seen from the wraparound porch with a coffee or a glass of wine. It's cooler up here too, a real relief on the hottest summer days.
This is a full cabin, not a tent or a resort unit. Four bedrooms, four baths, and room for ten, with a game room, a big kitchen, and a covered porch that runs three sides of the house. Bring the family, bring friends, spread out.
🛋️ INSIDE ➝ Open living area with a wood-burning fireplace, comfortable seating, and mountain views ➝ Full kitchen with granite counters and everything for cooking for a crowd ➝ Game room with pool, ping-pong, and foosball ➝ Multiple TVs, with Wi-Fi for streaming ➝ Laundry, heat and AC, well water, and an automatic backup generator so a power flicker won't strand you
🛏️ WHERE YOU'LL SLEEP ➝ Four bedrooms, seven beds, sleeps up to ten ➝ Four full bathrooms ★ Room to bring the whole family or a group of friends and still have space to breath
🌲 OUTSIDE ➝ Huge three-sided covered porch with rocking chairs and long-range views ➝ Hot tub, open year-round ➝ Huge fire pit for s'mores and evenings under the stars ➝ The sky at Lookout Lodge opens up — no city glow to dull it, just black depth crowded with stars in every direction. ➝ Gas grill plus a charcoal grill/smoker for outdoor dining ➝ 2.3 acres in trees so thick come summer — no neighbors, no sounds but birds and wind. It feels like the whole mountainside is yours alone.
♥ WHO IT'S FOR Families and groups. Reunions, friend trips, multigenerational getaways, and holidays. Designed for all ages, from little ones to teenagers to grandparents, with space and games to keep everyone happy.
🚗 GETTING HERE (read this first) Lookout Lodge is about 25 to 30 minutes (13 miles) south of Bryson City. Most of the drive is paved, but the last stretch is steep, partly gravel, and one-lane in places. In good weather and daylight, regular 2 wheel-drives are fine, guests have driven up in a Corolla. In winter or heavy rain, AWD or 4WD is strongly recommended, and motorcycles aren't advised because of the gravel. Come up during daylight your first time, use Waze, and download directions before you leave town, since GPS gets spotty as you climb. Once you arrive, it's only 4 to 5 steps to the main level.
➳ GOOD TO KNOW The drive back up the mountain at the end of the day is part of the deal, so stock up on groceries on your way in. It's private and quiet up here by design, a trade of a few minutes of driving for a long-range mountain view and real seclusion.

About the host
Hosted by Kendra Jackson
Hi, I'm Jeanetta.
My husband Mike and I dreamed of owning a mountain cabin from the time our children were small. Now we're lucky enough to enjoy it with our kids and six grandchildren, we built Lookout Lodge to work for all of them, from the very young to teenagers and beyond.
That's what shaped this place: room to spread out, a game room for rainy afternoons, a big porch for the view, and enough beds and bathrooms that nobody's waiting in line. After 34 years in the rental world, it's the cabin I'd want my own family in.
We can't wait to share it with yours. I hope you enjoy it and cherish it as much as we do.
Come see us up on the mountain.
Why they chose this property
Lookout Lodge is the one you book when the whole group is coming. We've always loved the Smokies and wanted to be close enough to enjoy them but far enough to escape the crowds. This ridge is exactly that: peaceful forest, long-range views, and breathtaking sunsets, with a yard big enough for the kids to run around in, and groceries, restaurants, and the national park just a short drive back down the mountain.
Settle into the upper deck's rocking chairs to take it all in, or head down to the lower deck, where a picnic table and charcoal grill sit near the hot tub for evenings that stretch on — especially once the sky goes dark and the stars come out in force.
At 4,000 feet, it stays cool and comfortable even on the hottest summer days, and the 2.3 wooded acres mean that in summer you can't see another cabin through the trees. Four bedrooms, four baths, a game room, and a porch that wraps three sides of the house.
There's room for everyone here — come make some memories at Lookout Lodge.
