Quiet beach get away.....not so quiet...
We were hoping to get away for a quiet week together at a beach town, after being in a fishing tournament the week before.
Santa Teresa is definitely a beach town, but if it's quiet you're looking for, this isn't the place. The average age is 25 (or younger), and the town is full of ATV's and dirt bikes. And.....it's extremely dusty! (We went Feb 26th through March 5th 2022).
We reserved a ground level unit, but when we arrived, we were put in a second floor unit. My husband has bad knees, so the 58 steps to get to the apartment was a chore for him, but after the first couple of days, he got use to it. We both agreed that the 2nd floor unit is better, especially if we were on the ground level and there was a group of young kids staying above us on the 2nd level. I probably would have left! I love kids, of all ages, but we were looking for a quiet get away.
We ended up spending most of our time in adjoining towns, Mal Pais, Playa Carmen, the fishing village. The beaches weren't as crowded and the younger kids didn't want to be on those beaches.
Thankfully, we had a 4 wheel drive vehicle (enclosed) so we didn't have an issue driving to these other places and using the apartment in Santa Teresa as our home base.
Our host was outstanding! He even arranged for someone to come to the apartment the day before we were to leave CR to administer our COVID tests so we could return to the states.
Cute little town, but noisey. I wish we had gone 35 years ago, it would have been a great party!
