Three of us went to Bonham, Texas for the specific purpose of viewing the total eclipse on April 8, 2024. We expected chaos, but instead had a lovely quiet stay at Steve and Karen’s Victorian House Bed and Breakfast. Steve and Karen went above and beyond to provide comfortable accommodations. They were booked completely “to the gills”, but still found time to greet us, show us around and take my son and his wife on a tour of their gardens. They were incredibly conscientious about responding to questions before our arrival and to anything we needed during the stay. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and we even enjoyed some musical entertainment by Steve and another guest after breakfast. Our stay was fabulous and I highly recommend their BnB. We’d love to go stay again.

About the host
Hosted by Steve & Karen Halbrook
We were married after graduating from LSU. We then moved to Dallas and worked in different fields before deciding to move from the hurried pace of the big city life. We wanted to connect with the land, history, wildlife, clean air and the community. With our background in art, design, music, cooking, photography, gardening and woodworking we knew we could design the perfect bed & breakfast getaway.
Why they chose this property
My wife and I own and operate the Carleton House Bed & Breakfast in Bonham for the past 20 years. After graduating college and moving to Dallas,Texas, we decided to move out of the big city and look for a place with a slower pace of life in a rural community. Opening a bed & breakfast seemed like the perfect way to help others escape the daily city life and reconnect to life and each other. After looking for the perfect place for a year and a half, we stumbled into Bonham. The area has abundant resources all rolled into a small town package, just what we were looking for! Once here, we fell in love with the restoration of old houses, collecting antiques of all kinds, the small town community and making people feel welcomed in one of our 3 restored homes. The Home was built in the late 1800's and retains much of it's charm from the period. The area is Quiet with Large trees and a View of the Newly restored Courthouse from the back Porch. Our background in art, music, woodworking, gardening, cooking, photography and design are all evident as you step onto our properties. You are bound to find something to love about your stay with us!
What makes this property unique
The home has a special warmth from the families who have lived in and loved the house previously. Most of the interior woodwork such as built ins and doors with their antique hardware are still intact as well as some of the original flooring and glass. Outdoors, the quaint arched porticos over the entryway doors show the skills of past apprenticeships. Large Mature Pecan trees provide much needed shade for enjoying the outdoors Your hosts can also provide live music and antique car rides or for a nominal fee, gourmet meals, massages and gift baskets.
