This fully private houseboat offers a large space, cosy for holidays with all facilities. Safety area in the "chic" island of Saumur.
Fully equiped kitchen with dishwasher, fridge and freezer, oven coffe machine, boiler... italian style shower in mosaïc, large bards or single beds, separate automatic toilets, WIFI....
This is an amazing fully private traditional boat of the Loire river. A very confortable and large self catering boat moored just in front of the castel of Saumur.

Fabulous location, very relaxing

A wonderful four days spent here in early September. The location is unbeatable with stunning views across the river and the chateau. Lots of wildlife - we saw otters, unusual birds - and there are a lot of fish in la Loire which swim around the boat. A very comfortable accommodation, lots of space for a small boat, well appointed and clean. The walk into Saumur centre takes about 10 minutes and is very pleasant. The choice of restaurants is good. We had several excellent meals. We will definitely be back! Thanks, Arnelles and George!

Wunderschönes Urlaubsdomizil mit kleinen Schwächen

Die Lage des Boots mit direkten Blick auf das Schloss von Saumur ist fantastisch. Das Boot selbst ist sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Es gibt allerdings (bis auf eine winzige „Besenkammer“) keinerlei Möglichkeiten, seine Koffer bzw. Kleidung zu verstauen. Wir haben die Koffer einfach auf eines der Betten im Wohnzimmer gelegt, wenn man aber tatsächlich zu viert anreist, wird es sehr eng mit der Gepäckunterbringung. Es gibt an Bord keine Klimaanlage, aber einige Ventilatoren. Wir hatten einige sehr heiße Tsge erwischt und da wurde es super heiß im Boot. Wir hatten das große Glück, dass das Nachbarboot erst in der letzten Nacht vermietet war. D.h., die allermeiste Zeit war es sehr ruhig und man schlief zum Quaken der Frösche ein. Am letzten Tag kamen Gäste auf das Nachbarboot. Leider liegt dessen Terrasse unmittelbar vor dem Schlafzimmer des kleineren Boots. Die Gäste dort hörten Musik, und tanzten bis in die Morgenstunden. Aufgrund der Hitze konnte man es nur mit offenem Schlafzimmerfenster aushalten, weshalb an Schlaf nicht zu denken war. Besteck und Geschirr an Bord sind spärlich, so dass man die Spülmaschine ständig laufen lassen muss. Es gibt einen sehr schmalen, wackeligen Außenbereich, aber Platz zum Essen hat man dort nicht, weshalb man sich doch sehr viel im Inneren des Boots aufhält. Insgesamt ein sehr schönes, außergewöhnliches Urlaubsdomizil mit ein paar kleineren Schwächen.

Fantastic

We stayed here last September and came back for longer this year. Although la Loire was very low because of very hot and dry summer and we had a large almost private beach outside the boat, this didn’t affect the fact that this is a stunning location with the best view in Saumur! Just so beautiful and relaxing. Owner very friendly and helpful. Thanks Georges! See you next time!

Our third fabulous stay!

We stayed on the Loire Romance 3 years ago with our 3 teenage kids for a 4 night stay and loved it. Last year we came back for 4 nights (again on the Loire Romance) and again really enjoyed our stay. When we left, we promised each other we would come back again this year for a longer stay. This time we stayed on the Gloriette de Loire for a week. It was perfect. Privacy, a lovely space and that VIEW!!!! The Loire river is quite low this Summer and the deck of the Gloriette makes it very easy to get in and out of the water, so on the warmest days we swam in the river right off the deck (the water was less than a metre deep right next to the boat). It is also very clear water and there are lots of fish, leisurely swimming past as you sip your drink on the deck. The big sliding door along the deck together with the sliding door in the bedroom allow for great air circulation, so the boat never felt too warm. Armelle and Georges are responsive, gracious hosts and the boats are always impeccably clean on arrival. For a family with kids, the Loire Romance offers more privacy for parents as it offers 2 separate bedrooms. The Gloriette offers more open spaces, which is perfect for a couple or family/friends who don't mind spending most of their time on the boat in shared space. We certainly plan to come back again, these boats in this unbeatable location are a stroke of genius and I am almost reluctant to leave such a glowing review for fear that they'll be completely booked longer in advance, making it more difficult to plan our return :D The location of Saumur, in between Angers and Tours, is ideal as well, with a seemingly endless list of chateaux and pretty villages and towns to visit, all within easy reach. By the tame token, it is lovely to get into a rhythm of sleeping in, sauntering into town for fresh bread, cheese and wine (the town also has an un-be-lie-va-ble delicatessen that sells fresh, ready-made, gourmet dishes that beat most restaurant meals yet cost less than half of what you'd spend eating out) and then returning to the boat for a leisurely afternoon on the water, followed by dinner (more wine) and an evening walk along the river. You will feel spoiled for choice here and your stay is sure to feel too short! Thank you again Armelle and Georges, you make Saumur irresistable to us!

Ce bateau est très confortable et la vue magnifique. On se sent vraiment bien sur ce bateau. Même par grand froid, on a eu bien chaud. Le propriétaire est très à l'écoute et sympathique. Je reviendrai aux beaux jours pour revoir le château, la ville , la Loire, le pont, les oiseaux... la nuit, le matin... J'ai adoré le charme de ce lieu.

Bon séjour dans son ensemble, malgré quelques désagréments: pas le bateau choisi au départ (pas d'espace séparé pour mon enfant), suite à une fuite d'eau avant notre arrivée; matins bruyants avec 5 ou 6 pêcheurs qui criaient et parlaient très fort, de 9h au coucher du soleil...équipements trop sommaires (ustensiles de cuisine insuffisants pour un séjour de 5 jours: pas de saladier, de couvercles, de couteau économe, de fait-tout) et évier en partie bouché (lave-vaisselle hors-service)... ce qui est un peu décevant en rapport avec le prix pratiqué. Sinon, nous avons positivé et notre séjour fut agréable. Nous n'avons malheureusement pas pu dire au-revoir à nos hôtes...

Sublime séjour sur la Loire

Emplacement idéal face au château de Saumur, très romantique de nuit, ce bateau-lavoir est un nid douillet pour un séjour : spacieux, lumineux, bien équipé ......Un ponton pour profiter du coucher de soleil............ L'entretien du lieu est impeccable que ce soit au niveau du ménage, de la literie, sans oublier l'accueil des propriétaires chaleureux, souriant et en plus avec un cadeau de bienvenue ! Unbeatable view and location in the Loire Valley

We stayed in both the self-catering apartment and then in one of the two houseboats, which are moored just below the 19th century stone mansion which contains the apartment. All three have probably the best view of Saumur's chateau as they are directly across the river, on the island (Ile d'Offard). it's a short walk to town across the main bridge which is about two blocks away, and there are also shops on the island, including a wonderful bakery with some of the best crossants we've ever tasted. Georges and Armelle are friendly and diligent hosts, who will do anything needed to make the stay pleasant and relaxing. The property is in a very quiet area but easily walkable to many shops and two excellent markets, on the island itself on Thursdays, and in the central Saumur town square on Saturdays. We had not realized that the apartment has a small second bedroom which came in very handy when our daughters came for a short visit. The apartment includes washing machine and dishwasher, and a small but workable cooktop. The modern shower has lots of hot water and great pressure, also true in the boat. WiFi connections worked well, and the apartment's high ceilings and thick stone walls keep rooms cool on hot days. We could never decide whether we preferred the view of the chateau during the day, when the sun sparkles off the creamy limestone walls and turrets, or at night, when the gleaming chateau is reflected onto the river's calm surface. Saumur is a smallish town (pop. around 30,000) located between the larger and better-known cities of Tours and Angers. On the north side of the river is the modern train station with easy connections or direct service to Angers, Nantes, St. Nazaire, Orleans, Le Mans, Tours, Paris etc. on clean, fast trains, and the English-speaking station staff are helpful and gave us ticket suggestions which saved us quite a few Euros on our numerous local and regional trips. This is a great base for exploring the Loire Valley's many sights, including not only the many well-known castles but also the huge medieval abbey at Fonteyvraud (where Richard Lion Heart and his family are buried) as well as many wineries. Saumur has its own "appellation" and several wineries which provide tours, such as Veuve Amiot which makes excellent sparkling wines at very attractive prices (also free tours and tasting). We would gladly go back for another stay, as there is still a lot we were not able to cover in one visit.
