Shore Thing Vacation Rentals is pleased to introduce 'Staring Contest', a beautiful family home that boasts stunning ocean views! Located in peaceful Oceanside Oregon, this home’s large glass doors open to a spacious deck that runs the length of the house, with plenty of room for everyone to relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the famed Three Arch Rocks. When you’re ready to explore the beach or go for a morning run, it's just a short 5 minute drive away.

This house features 3 bedrooms: 2 bedrooms upstairs on the main floor, each with a queen-sized bed with a full bathroom located just outside the bedrooms. One bedroom downstairs with 2 sets of bunk beds and a full bathroom located right outside the door.

The nicely appointed kitchen provides all the necessary tools for preparing tasty meals, and a gas BBQ is available to grill your fresh catch. You and your guests are sure to enjoy leisurely dinners while watching the sun set from the dining room table.

When it’s time to stretch out and relax indoors, the comfortable living room is the perfect spot. Crank on the gas log fireplace for a warm, crackling fire and enjoy a movie on the flat screen smart TV and DVD player.

This home is just a short drive to downtown Oceanside, where you’ll find 2 cafes and delicious Roseanna's Restaurant. Many hiking opportunities with picture-perfect vistas are nearby: Cape Lookout State Park, Cape Meares Lighthouse and Maxwell Mountain to name a few.

Whether you're strolling along the beach, clamming nearby, catching a nap on the deck, or enjoying a fabulous coastal sunset every evening, this ocean view vacation rental surrounds you with serenity. This is perfect spot for a family getaway or a quiet trip with friends.

The perfect getaway

Fun Family Time

This home was as advertised. It served our family very well. There were plenty of sleeping options. We had many delicious meals in the well appointed kitchen. The views were incredible and we escaped the heat wave in Portland to perfect windless 70 degree days walking on the beach at the most beautiful place on earth. A wonderful memorable time.

We love it here!

We love Staring Contest! We stayed here again for our annual summer trip to Oceanside, and love this place. The ocean views may be second only to oceanfront property, but the peace and tranquility are unparalleled! Within a 15-20 minute walk to the beach, but far enough away to be away from the main flow of visitors to town. The house is very well appointed, and extremely comfortable. Communication with the owners is great, and they are extremely responsive. We love coming to stay here, and will be booking summer trips to Staring Contest for years to come.

Reviewer Comments: the following needs updated; trip hazard on rotting stairs/deck, refer wants to stay open, faucet needs replaced -won't turnoff, garbage disposal is missing most of safety rubber, oven drawer is difficult to close, broiler pan is gross and dirty (didn't use but tried to clean), transition strip in laundry room has come off, Also no place to sit and get dressed or put luggage, the single bunkbeds are difficult to sit on and get dressed a twin/single bunk would be better. overall the laundry room may be the best room in the house. oh, forgot the narrow, steep driveway; -30% single width grade

Good view

We had a nice stay at starring contest. Everything was clean. Every interaction with management was positive. We indeed did stare nonstop at the giant waves hitting the giant monoliths. The covered porch is key and hard to find in other homes in the area. There isn’t much of a view from the sitting area inside the house. We loved the access to the beach via the extremely step trail in the neighborhood. It was too steep for our dog but it was fine for us. We had one issue, the furniture. The upstairs beds seemed to be full sized, so we had to sleep separately during our stay. And the beds weren’t very comfortable. Also, we booked this home in part because we wanted to kick back and read in the cozy lounge chairs featured in the picture in the listing. Instead upon arrival we were extremely disappointed to find that those chairs had been replaced with two really low back round swivel chairs that only had one ottoman. And the couch was so stiff we couldn’t sit on it comfortably. We were here for four nights, which was too long to not have a comfortable place to sit and relax. I’m not sure if we’ll book again. If we do, I guess we’ll bring our camping chairs with us.

Hottest Day

The view was the one and only thing you cannot buy I guess. In a house at 97 degrees inside the house with no AC and no windows that stay open was super hard. No amount of fans made sitting in the living room that faces the afternoon sun is not fun. It was so miserably hot we had to leave. The house I’d recommend for young families for sure, but if you’re older and need a single level - this is not the property and to be pet friendly you’d have to have a sizeable yard to potty your pet, this house I would not recommend for a pet. It needs updating and the furniture was stained, but could be considered ok if you let kids and pets in the property. But my most hard situation is paying $800 for a couple nights in almost 100 degrees in the house and expect that visitor to endure that kind of heat is not very welcoming. We had to leave, the heat in that house never subsided by morning. Wish it had, we ended up leaving. Also, they should have reimbursed us for at least half the cost since we did travel far to have a miserable experience due to the heat.

We loved this house. The gas fireplace was so cozy in February. The view was wonderful. We enjoyed watching bald eagles, and we saw whales puffing out in the ocean. Will definitely visit again.

Bedrooms were good size, loved the fireplace, living room was a great place to hang out, kitchen well stocked, everything worked good and the water presure in the showers was outstanding. Now for the bad, kitchen and dining area small, the steps from upstairs to downstairs very steep and slipery not only for us but also for my dogs and because of bad weather we had to use them to get in and out of the house through garage side door as the outside steps due to cold temps were iced over most the time, driveway very steep and narrow, tight to park my big truck and sons car, no yard really for dogs to do thier busniness, Over all I would say not dog friendly or for people who have trouble with stairs as main level is upstairs. We did enjoy our stay and the host was great but probably won't rent again.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We rented Staring Contest, a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a gorgeous ocean view of the Three Arch Rocks. Sunsets are stunning from the deck off the livingroom and kitchen. The house was well equipped. Appliances, that we used, worked properly. The linens, towels and bedding, were nice and plush. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The house floorplan was convenient...most everything needed was on the main floor. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood on a dead end culdesac. The driveway up to the house is very steep! Thankful we didn't bring our low profile car as we would have had to park it at the bottom of the driveway and haul everything up to the house.A few issues, but nothing that ruined our trip or needed to be addressed during our stay, are:Stairs up to front door are very noisy and slippery when wet, shower curtain in main bath could use a curved curtain rod so shower curtain doesn't touch you while showering, the main bath shower head could use an extension as it's pretty low for anyone over 5'5", the chair in the livingroom (not peeling leather) is missing some screws and very rickety when sitting (didn't end up needing to use it, used the peeling chair and couch instead), since there aren't curtains on the sliding glass door windows it can get pretty hot in the house (no A/C) so a box fan or oscillating fan would be nice to have on hand, one bedroom only has a lamp on one side of bed so could use another lamp, would be nice to have a wall mounted TV in one of the queen bedrooms on the main floor, and there's no exhaust fan in the downstairs bathroom.The house does have some minor TLC issues (i.e. cracked/loose tiles on main bath floor, needed paint touch-ups, some added screws on squeeky stairs and deck boards in front of house).Overall we had a nice, relaxing week stay. None of the above items would prevent us from staying here again. Would recommend.
