September is a great time to come to the Point on Kitchi Lake. The tourist season is over, but days are still warm and the evenings quite cozy in the comfortable , well appointed cabin. The Point makes a perfect getaway for seniors and families looking for a memorable fishing weekend before winter or just a quiet paddle on the lake to enjoy the autumn colors.

The Point

Nestled at the tip of a long forested peninsula between Kitchi Lake and its bay, The Point offers the storied Minnesota lakehouse experience and all the family memories that come with it.

This cozy and secluded cabin is just steps from Kitchi Lake and a 150 foot sand beach with docks on its east and west shores, It includes an Old Town canoe and kayak as part of the rental. Its lake and bay facing windows offer breathtaking views of sunrises and sunsets and local wildlife, including bald eagles (which nest nearby) blue herons, swans, deer, beaver and otter. Turtle River, Kitchi and the two nearby Little and Big Rice Lakes also offer spectacular scenery, and great fishing, including walleye, northern, panfish, bass and the occasional muskie. Kitchi Lake is also part of the eight lake chain anchored by Cass Lake (a ten minute boat ride to the south) which is a favorite with muskie fishermen.

The house sleeps six, has three bedrooms, two with queen size and one with single beds and two full bathrooms The single floor, open concept layout, and single step rear entrance allow for easy access by seniors. Windows and ceiling fans transmit the steady lake breezes throughout the house.

Amenities include washer and dryer, coffee maker, coffee press, rice cooker and crock pot, gas grill, fire pit, dishwasher, high speed satellite internet. and Dish TV. We also provide a wide screen TV in the living room and a standard set in the master bedroom. We furnish linens and towels, and dishes, flatware and pots and pans.
.
Our dock can handle large boats and pontoons, and if you bring your own boat with a rollaway or bunk trailer, you can launch it at the beach. If not, use a boat landing about a mile away. You can also rent boats locally.

With only one other house about a quarter of a mile south on the peninsula, and above that completely undeveloped Federal land to the main road, The Point offers a measure of seclusion in nature that is truly unique while its proximity to Bemidji provides quick access to necessities.

Guests should be aware that we have a no pet policy.

* If your party much larger than six (young.children not counted), consider also booking our companion property, a quarter mile up the road (listing number 596613) which handles 7, or combined, around 13. Renting the two properties is also the solution for groups who want a shared vacation experience while maintaining separate family accommodations.

Why they chose this property

Our family has owned property on the peninsula for three generations and my father built a house in the 1980's (also listed on VRBO no 596613) about a quarter mile south of the Kitchi point cabin. I've visited The Point (as it has always been called) since I was a boy, fished off the dock, and have known the the three former owners. The last couple built the current cabin (really a four season house) about 2001, and when they put it on the market I made an offer. Although I don't fish anymore, it is a uniquely beautiful spot and the perfect vantage point for taking pictures of wildlife and boating on Turtle river and its connected lakes.

What makes this property unique

The Point sits at the tip of a north/south running peninsula, perhaps 150 feet across with lake access on the east and west shores. It is the only area property I've seen sited between two shores, and It affords spectacular views of sunrises, sunsets and wildlife. We have always had a pair of eagles nesting at the south west corner of our original property (one of the current pair pictured flying by the house). With just one other house on the peninsula, about a quarter of a mile south and undeveloped Forest Service land to the south of our property easily adding over 60 acres, to the 40 plus that we own It is very secluded and relaxing location. For those who want to fish, or explore the area, it is in the middle of the eight lake chain of inter navigable lakes, centered by Cass Lake to the south (a ten minute boat ride) and these lakes (including Kitchi) offer great fishing for pretty much all the popular game varieties.

Note - if your party much larger than seven, consider also booking our companion property, a quarter mile up the road (listing number 596613) which handles 6, or combined, around 13. Renting the two properties is also the solution for groups who want a shared vacation experience while maintaining separate family accommodations.
