Sky Island is the unique ecosystem of the craggy cliffs of Shawangunk Mountains famous among rock climbers. Nestled between the Rondout Creek and the D&H Canal, the cottage sits in a pastoral glade of trees, birds and deer. Kerhonkson is a Hudson River Valley town of natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Minnewaska State Park and the Mohonk Preserve. This totally renovated 1840’s cottage is ideal for a couple, but also serves as a peaceful getaway for anyone wishing to spend some quiet time alone. It has a wood burning fireplace, cathedral ceiling with skylights and a private deck. It's an easy entry to the D&H Canal Rail Trail for walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing or bird watching. Regretfully, we cannot accommodate children or pets. Irene responded quickly to our request to stay. Communication was easy and her personalized hostess note and beverage for our anniversary stay was delightful. The location of the cottage was perfect for accessing area bike trails and close enough to New Paltz and Woodstock for day trips. The cottage was outfitted with everything you need for a comfortable stay. I would highly recommend this host and cottage for a welcoming, clean and gracious experience.

The most peaceful cottage!

Great second stay!

The cottage has everything you'd need for a relaxing stay indoors, as well as a wealth of information about attractions throughout the county, should you wish to explore. Irene was a delight to work with. We hope to return soon.

Perfect location!

This is an adorable, well maintained house in a perfect location. There is a trail right out the front door. It is minutes away from Minnewaska and Mohonk. A great couples get away.

Wonderful!

We have stayed in the cottage several times. It's a great location and Irene is a terrific host. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. We were perfectly situated for everything we wanted to do, including a tour at Olana, a hike around Denman Mountain and a walk on the Walkill Valley Trail. We didn't have time to walk the trail right out the cottage door, but we could see it as we enjoyed our dinner on the deck each night.

amazing cottage!

Irene was such a wonderful host, my fiance and I were looking to get away for his birthday and we were pleasantly surprised by everything the cottage and surrounding area had to offer. It was cozy, quaint, and we felt right at home. The local breweries and hiking paths in the area enhanced our stay and we look forward to coming back!

"Just Right" Fairy Tale Cottage

We loved our week away from it all in this cosey, well-appointed cottage. The beautiful meadow and rail trail setting rounded out the aesthetics and our enjoyment of this very special not-too-big-not-too-small-just-right place for we two. A wonderful week and a wonderful experience.

Wonderful getaway!

We loved our long weekend at the cottage. It's cozy and really feels like a home. The patio, yard, and rail trail right out the door give you so much outdoor space as well! Great proximity to hiking, restaurants, breweries, and more. Irene was an excellent host and shared many great recommendations for the area. We hope to come back soon!

A Cozy Cabin

This cabin was extremely clean and had everything you could need. The location next to the trail was outstanding. The fireplace worked great for the chilly weather. It is super cute and I would definitely recommend it for a couple nights away. Irene was a great host.

Coziest cottage!

We have stayed at this cottage a few times so far. It never disappoints! The cottage is so comfortable and cozy. We love that there is a wood fireplace. Irene keeps the cottage stocked with some nice amenities. It is close to Minnewsaka State Park and Mohonk Mountain. And New Paltz. My favorite is the rail trail right out the door! We will be back! Seeetest cottage!

Perfect getaway

Irene offered us lots of information about the cottage and attractions in the area. The cottage was spotless and so comfortable! The area around the cottage is peaceful, quiet, and full of natural beauty. The location is terrific - right near an easy trail for walking, close to lots of hiking and lots of great restaurants. We're so happy we stayed with at the cottage!

Perfect Race Weekend Cottage Stay

My Husband and I travelled to the Sky Island Cottage to be close to Minnewaska State Park for the SOS triathlon. Irene's cottage was perfect for our needs. The cottage was immaculate, had everything we needed, was quiet and very comfortable. The cottage is right on the trail system and has a wonderful market with amazing coffee and a restaurant with fantastic drinks just a short walk away. We also very much enjoyed the local brewery, RoughCut. We can't say enough wonderful things about the cottage! The communication with Irene was also excellent and we had a very easy check in and check out. We obviously can't wait to go back!

Magical Indeed

We absolutely loved our experience. The house is filled with every amenity you can think of. Don't even get me started on this fireplace - what a joy! I picked this location specifically because of the access to the trail. What a wonderful experience - being able to walk out the front door and your wilderness journey begins. You can walk for literal miles enjoying a flat path with the river to your left. It was the decompression we were searching for. Irene is such a lovely woman and we were grateful to have such a thoughtful host. I would like to mention a prior reviewer stated you can see people on the trail from the windows but if this isn't your speed, just roll down the curtains - this is what we did in the evenings and it was great. Literally down the block is the best provisions store with local yummies and the BEST coffee. We hope to rent again the summer. Do not pass this listing up!

A dreamy cottage. Very well kept. Excellent vibes. We felt fully rejuvenated. Wish I was richer so I could afford a longer stay. The host was very prompt with any help we needed. The area is nice with convenience stores and a couple of food joints. We fully stayed in - making the most of the cottage and the scenery of fall weather in upstate New York.

We stayed here for my wife’s birthday and we could not have asked for a better place to stay to make her celebration more memorable. It is such a quaint, cozy and charming cottage and the setting is absolutely beautiful, from the quiet solitude, the beautiful songs of the birds, gazing at the stars, watching the sun rise over the field and trees, and I could go on and on. The cottage is ideally located to all the parks in the area and all the nearby towns.The host, Irene, was wonderful! We will be definitely coming back.

Sylvan Solitude

As a seasoned user of VRBO type properties, I found this cottage very nicely appointed. All necessities provided in the kitchen, along with overall comfort whether inside or out on the quiet deck with a view of a tree lined meadow. Peaceful is a good description. Irene is helpful and unobtrusive.
