Creek-side Paradise + Hot Tub + Bar + Near Thunderhead Falls
Welcome to one of the Black Hills' most unique and beloved properties — a stunning creek-side cabin where you can fish for trout steps from your back door, soak in a private hot tub with the creek flowing below, and watch bighorn sheep graze on the hillside across the water. This is not your average Black Hills rental. This is a genuine paradise.
Perfectly situated just 1 minute from Thunderhead Falls and 15 minutes west of Rapid City, this charming 3-bedroom cabin sits right on the water on a beautifully private stretch of the Black Hills. With 107 reviews and a 9.6 out of 10 rating, guests come back year after year — and it's easy to see why.
THE CABIN This fully furnished 3-bedroom retreat sleeps up to 6 guests comfortably across a king master suite, a main floor queen bedroom, and a lower level queen bedroom — each with its own character and charm.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for home-cooked meals, and the dining area seats the whole group. The spacious living areas flow naturally to the outdoor spaces where the real magic happens.
Outside, the private hot tub overlooks the creek — one of the most breathtaking spots to relax in all of the Black Hills. The bar area with Bluetooth music system is perfect for entertaining. A scenic walking path follows the creek through the property, and the water is ideal for trout fishing right on site. A wood-fired experience and outdoor grill round out the outdoor entertainment options.
The property also features "The Hut" — a unique bonus entertainment space and sleeping loft that guests love.
An in-unit washer and dryer, fast WiFi, and free parking are all included. Pets are welcome with prior approval.
LOCATION You couldn't ask for a more spectacular Black Hills location: - Thunderhead Falls: 1 minute drive - Rapid City: 15 minutes - Mount Rushmore: 25 minutes - Crazy Horse Memorial: 35 minutes - Custer State Park: 40 minutes - Badlands National Park: 50 minutes - Sturgis: 45 minutes
HISTORY This property is steeped in remarkable local history. The original Flume Trail — built to carry water to the gold mines of the Black Hills — runs behind the cabin along the mountain. At the front of the property, the old railroad that operated in the late 1800s and early 1900s once passed right through. And the bend in the creek nearby was a traditional camping area for Native Americans — a peaceful, storied spot with centuries of history beneath your feet.
WILDLIFE Keep your eyes open — bighorn sheep are regularly spotted on the hillside across the creek, bald eagles soar overhead, and a wonderful variety of birds make this area home year-round.
PARKING & ACCESS Free off-street parking on site. Self check-in via smartlock — your code will be provided prior to arrival.
PLEASE NOTE The property is on a well system, so the water pump may occasionally run during high-demand times such as showers, laundry, or dishes — completely normal for a property of this type. In winter months, 4-wheel drive or AWD is recommended for the lower parking area.

Perfect spot to stay for all the things we wanted to do in the area. Enjoyed the hot tub to start our day. Kitchen was well stocked. If more than 2 people, one shower was a struggle at times, but overall was a great experience.

We enjoy our stay! The only complaint would be my daughter said the pump ran in the basement on and off all night. Other than that all good.

Host took care of minor issues promptly. The location was perfect! By the river, quiet yet close to town and hiking trails! Loved the hot tub and tiny house - so cute and comfy!!
The place is a hidden paradise! Great host, with great communication! The hot tub next the creek is heaven on earth! The bath tub in the master bathroom is like being at a secluded spa! We will be back again! Everything was amazing!
We loved our experience at this cozy cabin. The hosts were very welcoming and we felt as if it was a home away from home. Sitting under the stars in the hot tub felt magical in this scenic place. We enen saw a bald eagle. We would definitely recommend this house. It was amazing!
This vrbo has everything you need for a get away. The hot tub by the creek is what we craved the most at the end of the days of exploration and adventures!
My regret is rhat we only stayed four days -- beautifilul location, comfortable and clean. It is 35 - 45 minutes from Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park. The road to and from the VRBO is beautiful and not too much traffic. The interior and exterior is very relaxing.
Great yard adjacent to rapid creek, neat setting. Didn't have time to enjoy the hot tub and outdoor music system, maybe next time. Location was good, road construction took a little longer to get around. Overall comfortable place to enjoy the Black Hills

This location was perfect for the things in the area that we wanted to do on our vacation. The property was beautiful. The house was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. Great communication with the host.
This property is beautiful. There is so much to do in the area that we were not at the property that much, but it is a stunning creek side, cliff side setting and a nicely appointed house.
Great home with convenient location to mt Rushmore. The yard is huge and waterfront area has seating to help you enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The tiny house with hot tub was a huge hit with our kids and the dogs loved the yard to stretch their legs after a long day of travel. I'd definitely stay here again.
The property is spectacular, absolutely beautiful. Only problem we had was we should have booked more time! We would love to stay again, host was quick to respond. Had plenty of clean towles, loved all the coffee and tea options. Overall very nice stay!
-Property owners were always available

Hi, we're Jennifer and Robert — passionate travelers, proud Black Hills locals, and dedicated hosts with over 8 years of experience creating memorable stays for our guests. Robert is a former Army pilot who still flies for the love of it, and we spend our winters at an airpark in Texas before heading back to the beautiful Black Hills each spring. We've seen a lot of the world, which is exactly why we know what makes a great guest experience — the little details matter, the space should feel like home, and you should never have to wonder if your hosts care. We do. The Black Hills are our favorite place on earth and we love sharing them with visitors from all over the world. Jennifer has a passion for photography, family, and our dog, and brings that same eye for detail to every one of our properties. Many of the best features in our homes came directly from guest suggestions — so never hesitate to share your thoughts. We genuinely love hearing from you. We respond quickly, we go above and beyond, and we'll always do our best to make your stay exceptional. Whether you're here for a weekend adventure, a family reunion, or a Sturgis Rally trip, we're honored to be part of your journey. Hope to see you soon! Jennifer & Robert
Why they chose this property
This stretch of the Black Hills is one of the most scenic and wildlife-rich corridors in all of South Dakota. We chose it because nowhere else can you step outside and fish for trout, watch bighorn sheep graze across the creek, and be just 1 minute from Thunderhead Falls — one of the most beautiful and visited attractions in the Black Hills. You're 15 minutes west of Rapid City, close enough for convenience but far enough to feel completely immersed in nature. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, and the Badlands are all within easy reach, making this the ultimate Black Hills base camp.
What makes this property unique
Where else can you soak in a private hot tub with a creek flowing below you, fish for trout steps from your back door, watch bighorn sheep and bald eagles from your property, and be just 1 minute from Thunderhead Falls?
