From the late nineteenth through the early twentieth centuries, this comfortable Victorian served as the region's Ranger Station. Today it is rejuvenated and furnished to reflect its past as a gathering place for locals and visitors eager to hike, hunt and fish among Pikes Peak's legendary forested slopes. Your stay at the Ranger Station will open the door to an earlier time when folks came up Ute Pass to relax among the aspen, mountain spruce and ponderosa, away from the heat and bustle of flatland city life.
The Station's spacious kitchen welcomes you into a real connection with great-grandma, sitting at the table over coffee or tea, chatting and keeping hands busy helping with dinner chores. The dining table invites your family to eat the old-fashioned way--together, enjoying meals with the honest hunger that fresh air and exercise bring on. Food will never taste so good, nor sleep seem so deep and sweet, as in the embrace of this generous old house. In the livingroom, the 100+ year-old fireplace still works, reminding us that summer is only one of Colorado’s mountain moods.
The Station is completely furnished with everything you need to be comfortable on your vacation. The kitchen is set up with refrigerator, oven-stove, microwave, dishes, flatware, toaster -- we've tried to think of all that a good cook needs; there's a barbecue grill and picnic table outside too. Inside, you can relax with a good book or watch a movie from Prime movies and shows, a DVD or, if you must, access your email with hi-speed wireless. The master bedroom has a queen bed and connects to the main bath. Upstairs, the America Bunkroom has a bunk with a twin upper and a double lower. If needed, there's also room for a queen airbed. The Forest Bunkroom has a bunk with a twin upper and double lower. The Campfire Room connects from it with a twin bed. Total sleeping space in the main house is 9. A half-bath serves immediate needs upstairs. A laundry room has a washer and dryer. At last, you're at your Colorado home-away-from-home, furnished and decorated to awaken in you that feeling described by Gonzo’s song in 'The Muppet Movie':
This looks familiar -- vaguely familiar, Almost unreal, yet, -- it's too soon to feel yet; So close to home, and yet so far away-- I’m going to go back there someday...
CONFIGURATION: Master bedrm: queen bed (sleeps 2) Upstairs: America bedrm: bunk with twin upper, double l lower (sleeps 3); queen air bed available (2) Forest bedrm: bunk with twin upper, double lower (sleeps 3); Campfire room: twin bed (1)

So perfect for exploring this incredible area – centrally located to explore the local sites: Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Cliff Dwellings and Pikes Peak – also close enough for day trips to the Arkansas River rafting, Royal Gorge and Red Rocks concerts. Our stayed was blessed and we thank you for being humble hosts.' Lise & Dave L.
“We really enjoyed the cabin. It has a lot of charm. The location is great. Thank you for all your hard work.” Jodie & John Day, New Orleans, LA
'Our family was truly blessed to have chanced upon this wonderful cottage! Our son’s Air Force Academy Graduation was even more special by the comfort and unbelievable hospitality and amenities so graciously shared by Happy Trails. The location was ideal for sightseeing yet close enough to the Academy for the week’s events. The memories for the week will include the family barbeques, nightly card games and the beautiful view our family was able to share. Thank you' Mark & Sue R
'We truly enjoyed our stay. Being at a home with everything here already was truly a blessing. Knowing that we all share the hope and love of Jesus was a special perk. The house was comfy, private, a great relaxation 'base of operations' for our family vacation. Staying here put a real nice bow on the top. In Him, Joel, for all the Miles Family'
'Our final night in Colorado - it's been quite a trip! We attended a family wedding, went white-water rafting, and saw some sights we didn't get to see ten years ago when we were here last. It was a comfort to come back to this cozy cottage - all the comforts of home! Thank you for your hospitality - for calling and checking up on us - most likely we will return again. Until then, a warm thankyou from the Walter Family for providing us a safe, lovely place to rest.'
'We have enjoyed staying at your home. It was very comfortable and you have provided all the things we needed. This area is beautiful and we have enjoyed all the sights. It was wonderful to explore during the day and catch up with our friends at night. We were excited to see a bear wandering past the house one morning. We also enjoyed the baby birds in the bird house on the porch. Thanks again for providing such a nice place to stay.' Steve, Marian, Ruth, Rhonda, Dennis & Marie from England, Minnesota & Tennessee

Rustic former Ranger Station, plenty of room 8 of our family. Loved the full kitchen with plenty of pots, pans, and dishes (and dishwasher). View from the front porch was stunning. Located close to numerous attractions (Cave of Winds, Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, many more). Excellent restaurant right across the highway from property.
The location has easy access to all of the the local attractions. There is a Walmart in Cascade (just down the road) to pick up groceries or other supplies. Offered a beautiful view of the mountains. Saw a couple of deer and hummingbirds during our stay. The host was very responsive and easy to reach with any questions we had. Overall a place that accommodated nine people nicely.
Rustic property shared with 2 orher cabins. Was well worth the price. Saw some turkeys and deer while we were there. The location was perfect with many things to do nearby.
It is an old Ranger Station so the house is old but very clean and very homey. The porch was our fave and we seen a bear! I love the history of the place and we really enjoyed it! You aren't far from town but feel like you are away from everything. Def recommend.
This place was just enough away from the hustle & bustle of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, but super close for Garden of the Gods, Incline, Pikes Peak, COG, Manitou Cliff Dwellings & Museum, Cave of the Winds, the North Pole, & Broadmoor Falls, just to name a few! Plus the free washer & dryer was definitely a nice surprise for the tail end of a trip with 4 boys in 90 degree heat. Will love to stay again some day.
I cannot imagine anything more conveniently located! We were 5 miles from everything we wanted to do. We were able to eat lunch back at the Ranger Station and take breaks to recover from our spectacular hikes. We LOVED our stay. I would stay again!
The location is wonderful. Despite the fact that it is located right off the highway, you don't hear much highway noise. Big comfy porch with a nice yard and big trees. Outdoor picnic table and BBQ. Neat old home, too! We stayed with three kids who loved exploring up the hill and there was plenty of room to run outside in the yard also.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
The pictures are not at all what you are getting. It is right by the highway so you get all the noise from that. Its right in the center of town so you have neighbors all around you. You have to leave the back door open so the other 2 houses can come in and use the washer and dryer. It was a cute clean house but was very disappointed in the location. There was no trails around so we could go for a walk.

Just right!
Cute, quaint, centrally located with all the necessities. Great to be able to do laundry, too. We ventured out every day - Pikes Peak, Molly Kathleen gold mine, Garden of the Gods - and crashed every night! Thanks y'all.
We had a great week at the Cascade Ranger Station. It was an old-timey comfortable place. There were two sets of bunk beds plus a twin bed in a tiny extra room upstairs. There was a master bedroom downstairs. The upstairs bathroom has only a toilet and sink. The downstairs bathroom has a tub and shower. Our group was six people. It was not difficult to coordinate showering each day. If we return to that area we would totally stay there again.

Great Vacation!
We brought our kids to enjoy the mountains of Colorado and had a great time! Everything was clean and the layout worked great for our family. With four kids, they loved the upstairs rooms. Very cozy place--my kids referred to it as "the cottage." When they got tired on a mountain hike, they wanted to go back to "the cottage." We had a great vacation and hope to return soon!

Response from VrboOwner on 27 Mar 2020
So happy you and your family enjoyed your visit. Sorry we didn't get to meet you. Your reservation was also a testament to the convenience and efficiency of the VRBO system since, as you know, I was climbing a "fin" hundreds of feet high in Arches Natl Park in Utah, but still had cell phone coverage, when you requested to stay at the Ranger Station.
We had a great time at the ranger station. The beds were comfortable, the host was great and responsive. There was no queen air mattress when we got there, so he immediately went and picked one up. The only complaint was that I do not feel like claiming a 4th bedroom is accurate. The 4th bedroom is a closet in the 3rd bedroom, and you can't even close the door because the bed is blocking it. It just made coordinating sleeping arrangements for 4 kids more complicated than originally planned. Otherwise, it was great.
Great location to go see many different places. At the road for Pikes Peak, 15 minutes to garden of the gods, 30 minutes to the academy, Royal Gorge is an hour trip taking the scenic route. Any communication was answered promptly but we were not bothered by anyone. There is a fantastic restaurant/wine bar across the highway.
The only negative was the highway noise but that comes with the convenience of being able to get places easily.
I would definitely recomend this place.

Horrific experience
Do not stay here! The owners will charge you for normal homeowners maintenance such as when the dishwasher stops working. The owners will invade your privacy and steal your items from the common areas. There were dead flies and a rotting dead mouse under the sink. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

George and Lynn are not Colorado natives, but this is Home. George first came to Colorado to attend the USAF Academy in 1965. After graduation he was briefly stationed in Colorado as a young Intelligence officer prior to his assignment to Korea. After Korea and training in counter-insurgency, George served in Southeast Asia. His next assignment was in Hawaii where he met and married Lynn, who had been teaching at the University of Hawaii. A son and daughter soon rounded out their ohana. In 1978, a visit with friends in Colorado convinced them that this was eventually to be their permanent home. 14 years later, after living overseas, experiencing many cultures, and watching the Soviet empire fall, they finally made it to Colorado! They originally bought their Woodland Park and Cascade houses in 2002 as long-term rentals, but found that converting them to comfortable refuges for vacationers offered them better opportunities to meet and interact with great families from all over the world. George is now retired; he and Lynn have raised and shown some wonderful Bernese Mountain Dogs, in addition to having the honor and pleasure of hosting many visitors to our corner of paradise.
