About this property
Mökki Dwelling by the Dock
This cozy Scandinavian dovetail log cabin is sure to have you relax and unwind the moment you park the car.
The cute dwelling is just minutes from the famous Hovland dock where you can catch a sunset, jump in for an invigorating swim or simply stargaze from the dock.
The property also boasts a fantastic wood-fired sauna - perfect for rejuvenating.
The log cabin is located in Hovland MN, which is 20 minutes northeast of Grand Marais, near the Canadian border and Lake Superior.
The cabin is a work of art; designed and built by a local carpenter and North House Folk School instructor. This small 11' x 20' space has everything you need to slow down and reconnect with yourself, your partner and nature making it your perfect North Shore getaway.
- Rejuvenate in the wood-fired sauna with water from the rain barrels or melt snow for bathing. Be brave enough to jump off the dock and run back up the road to the sauna!
- Take in the forest floor from the large windows, keep an eye out for the deer as they stroll through the back clearing.
- Sit by the fireplace or laze in the sky chair.
Perfect for solo adventurers and couples willing to pack-in/pack-out drinking water and linens. There isn't running water or a cleaner. Your ability to ‘Pay it Forward’ and leave the place as you found it is fundamental to maintaining an affordable experience in a healthy space for the next folks who are seeking a peaceful place to rest and rejuvenate.
The cabin is equipped with:
- wood sauna & outhouse
- woodshed with an ax (be prepared to split your kindling)
- gas fireplace for heating
- gaslighting and solar lighting
- 4-burner gas cooktop (oven currently out of commission)
- 1 cooler *Bring ice!
- outdoor cook grill (bring your own charcoal, respect fire bans)
- solo stove fire pit (respect fire bans)
- dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, cutting board, kettle, dishwashing basin, gray water pail
- wash water from rain barrels during the warmer season. In winter, snow can be melted on the stove.
Folks will need to bring:
- bedding: pillow covers, blankets & sheets, or sleeping bags
- towels for the sauna
- drinking water.
*Unplugged: There is no wifi and limited to no cell phone reception at the cabin. You can find pockets of service along Highway 61 and T-mobile customers now get 2bars in the cabin.
