About this property
Stunning West Sonoma Retreat with Spectacular Pool, Gardens and Views
After looking at hundreds of properties as a guest in Sonoma County and deciding that very few of them were the modern, stylish place that we wanted to stay in, we decided to create our own. In doing so, we incorporated natural materials, plants, beautiful furniture, and lots of light everywhere in our home.
The resulting property is a beautiful, private, modern 3-bedroom retreat with everything you could want for a luxury vacation in wine country, or a perfect place for a longer term stay. You first approach the house via a long driveway that ensures privacy and ends in parking for 5 cars. The front of the house is beautifully landscaped and lit up at night.
The house has Nest security cameras, smoke/CO2 detectors, and a Nest thermostat. It also has a Ring doorbell as well as an August lock and keypad to make getting in and out of the house a breeze. We have gigabit cable internet and enterprise-class wifi that covers nearly all the usable space indoors and out, making working from home a breeze. We have installed a UV water filter, as well as have a reverse-osmosis water tap in the kitchen sink. We have a solar array and battery backup. The house has MERV-13 hospital grade HVAC filters, and HEPA filter units in the main living area and all bedrooms.
The living room has comfortable seating for 6 and is equipped with a giant 70-inch 4k Samsung TV, Sonos surround sound, Xfinity cable, and a Roku for all your streaming needs. There is also a gas fireplace that is perfect for chilly nights. A wall of sliding glass doors open to the wraparound patio behind the house, providing stunning views of the Blucher Creek valley and its hills, farms, forests, ponds, and vineyards, and of course, our lovingly designed pool, hot tub, and gardens. We love to cook, so we've outfitted the kitchen with everything you should need to make a gourmet meal using any of the amazing ingredients you can find in our local markets. There is a formal dining room with seating for 6-8.
Upstairs are the three king bedrooms and two full bathrooms, one of which is convertible to two twins upon request. All bedrooms have incredibly comfortable mattresses, sheets, and pillows, an alarm clock, a floor fan for both air circulation and white noise, luggage racks, and USB-enabled outlets. The first floor also has a den with a comfortable, pull-out queen couch, a desk for working with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, and French doors that close this space off as a private, flexible 4th bedroom.
A walk down the stairs leads to our stunning pool, hot tub, and pool house. The pool has a retractable safety cover. The first half of the pool is a 11-inch deep Baja shelf that is perfect for wading and lounging. Steps lead down to the deeper end, where there are also relaxing benches built into the side walls. Six lounge chairs and several umbrellas are perfect for relaxing. The year-round hot tub is physically separate from the pool and seats 8. It's available during the winter, as well, for those nights you want to relax and gaze up at the stars. The pool house is a converted shipping container and is nearly half windows. It has an outdoor shower attached to one side as well as and a custom-fabricated steel arbor to provide shade. There's also a large patio with a grill, and an additional dining area.
We have weekly gardening and pool service that comes to keep everything clean, pristine, and working for you, so please keep in mind you may see some workers there on Thursday or Friday mornings.
Our entire property has been expertly landscaped with local flora. We have various fruit trees on the property, including lemons, limes, apples, and Asian pears, as well as a grape arbor with Concord and flame red grapes. Please feel free to use items from gardens!
We love our West Sonoma Home, and look forward to welcoming you as our guests.

About the host
Hosted by Jonathan Taylor

Our home was originally renovated just for us as our escape from the city. Shortly after we finished the project, work took us to NYC, and we decided to share our home with others so they could enjoy it in our stead.
We love hosting as it's truly been wonderful and a pleasure to provide others with an excellent experience while they are traveling. We've had a number of pretty awful experiences with home sharing ourselves, and we have committed to being different. We grew up in restaurant families, so hospitality is in our blood, and it's a joy to share something we created with others!

Why they chose this property
Besides being the birthplace of the California wine movement, it's now home to over 425 wineries, and even more great places to eat. We knew we wanted to buy a home somewhere in Sonoma County, and looked for almost a year until we found Bloomfield. We've always loved the natural beauty of the Sonoma Valley, and love how close it is to San Francisco, making for a very easy weekend getaway.
What makes this property unique
We were struck by the openness of the property, perched on a hill with beautiful views of pastures, rolling hills, and wineries from the rear of the home. We knew with some work, we could turn the space into something people would enjoy as much as we do. It is comfortable, yet still modern, and we tried to add many thoughtful touches and additions that make this feel like a private, peaceful country home away from home.
The backyard pool and gardens are really a showpiece in and of itself, and we spent a lot of time crafting the perfect sanctuary back there, and continue to improve it over time. Many guests have remarked that it's the favorite part of their stay!
We also keep up with maintenance and regularly refurbish items and update things throughout the property - we care about the home and reinvest a lot of our earnings into it so it remains an excellent place to stay and not something that just looks good in photos taken 5 years ago.
