About this property

WaterWinds! Waterfront Private house w/dock, Pet friendly

Water Winds is a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Need to work from home? We have high speed internet and plenty of room to do what you have to. This is a great place to relax, spread out and claim plenty of room for yourself. WaterWinds has a calm aesthetic with a large great room, and plenty of comfortable seating options. Your view is the ever changing waters of the Albemarle Sound. We provide kayaks, a game room, fishing poles and crab pots. No need to go anywhere else. Fix your meals in our well stocked kitchen with gas range, better than eating out because you know exactly how it was prepared. Support our local fisherman and purchase fresh seafood locally or catch your own. Enjoy the scenery. Pods of dolphin can be seen swimming right off the bulkhead. Otter occasionally sun themselves on the Dock and banks. You will often see Bald head eagles, Osprey and all manner of sea birds from the large Sound side windows. Enjoy your coffee from the comfort of the great room while you experience the peace of the Albemarle Sound. Watch the Sunset and enjoy an outside fire in the brick firepit. Sit on the dock, or lay a blanket or yoga mat out and enjoy the sun. Explore the Sound by kayak, paddle board or wade out into the waist high water. Play pool, darts or ping pong in the downstairs games, sports room. Watch awestruck as waves break over the bulkhead during a storm. Walk to the little community park and play a game of tether ball or volley ball. The boat ramp is right next to the park for your personal water craft.

The home features 3 bedrooms, all with water view, all queen size. Plenty of linens, water themed rooms with fluffy comforters and a couple of beach towels if you forget yours. 2 baths. The Master bath has oversized shower. The hall bath has a tub.
55 inch smart TV in the great room. Smaller TV with Roku in the Master and Canal view bedroom. Washer and dryer. The kitchen is a dream to work in with stainless steel appliances and gas stove. Stainless grill outside. Pet friendly with many dogs in the neighborhood. It is important to keep your pet on a leash and keep them safe from falling in the Sound. Water Winds is bulkheaded so it drops from yard to Water with a low wall in between. Currently there is a ladder available to get in and out of the water at the end of the dock. There are also steps into the water for easy access and to get in and out of the kayaks.

Friendly neighbors will greet you as you walk about Holiday Island. Explore further with day trips to historic Hertford which has the oldest court house still in use. Take a step back in time and enjoy Steamers baseball in a wood stadiums with the original flip numbers, from bygone days. Then watch Bull Durham and see the similarities. Go to Edenton. Walk the town, go out on the docks and watch the boats and maybe get a boat tour of the Albemarle Sound. Take a motor trolley and get a history tour of Edenton. Learn the story of the lighthouse which was moved to its current site in Edenton. An hour and twenty minutes drive will see you to the Outer Banks for a day at the Atlantic Ocean. Kitty Hawk has a great area that is free to park and lifeguards on the beach and a excellent convenience area with showers. Walk to I've Got Your Crabs for fantastic seafood. When going through Elizabeth City stop by the Museum of the Albemarle for some history lessons. The museum is free of charge. Right across from the Museum is the Park with a scenic walk along the Water. Often you can watch sailing lessons and if you book ahead, take one yourself. On your way to the Outer Banks stop by H2OBX, a new WATER park with something for everyone. Then if you're ready for more history look up information on site X of the Lost colony, Interested in the story of Virginia Dare? The latest research says they moved inland 10 miles from Water Winds. Near site X is Bertie beach and see their plans for the future , take some fishing poles and enjoy the Water some more. Serenity
I have lost count, but I believe this was our 5th stay since 2019. I can not put into words the peace this stay gives both me and my husband. Our biggest fear is that one day Beth will want to keep this piece of heaven all to herself. Plan to visit again real soon.

Amazing!
This vacation home was big, clean, and beautifully decorated. The rental process was very easy with Beth. She emailed during our stay checking to make sure everything was going good. The area was so nice. Everyone is friendly. We loved learning the history of Edenton. We did the boat tour, trolley tour, and the lighthouse tour. We loved Hertford and Elizabeth City. The antique shops were very nice. The antique shop (Four Corners) in Tyner, NC is awesome.

Awesome 10 days.
The house was in perfect condition, very clean and made us both happy to be there. Great view of the Sound and stars at night. Very nice and quiet neighborhood. Beth emailed us several times to ensure there were no problems or questions. We had a perfect stay and would recommend Waterwinds to everyone.

About the host

Hosted by Beth Younger

Host profile image
My husband and I undertook the journey of owning a vacation home a couple of years ago. He is a retired Fire Captain and I am a retired RN. We love horses and the water. Our second careers are teaching horseback riding in the Sandhills of North Carolina. We discovered the Inner Banks after my father bought his vacation home at Albemarle Sound. We would love for you to come and enjoy what we have found here and in the quaint shops and historic areas of Edenton and Hertford.

Why they chose this property

This home has one of the best views of Albemarle Sound at Holiday Island. We purchased it after it had been ravaged by multiple storms and needed a lot of TLC. The headboard in 2 of the bedrooms are salvaged wood from some of the storms. We love to reuse and re-purpose things. The stairs going down to the basement had no banister and no protection from falling right down the stairs. We used old tobacco barn poles and old doors from a torn down depression house to make it safe. We used drift wood for the railing. We have worked very hard so that each thing we have done means something to us, a memory of hard work or good times with family. The dining room table was made by my father in law from wood that came from his farm. Everything has a story.

What makes this property unique

We love looking at the water. We feel tranquil and more at peace. There was a fantastic Thunderstorm last month with a lightening show that went on for an hour that we watched from the great room windows. In Spring and Fall, we have the doors open at night and listen to the waves breaking against the bulkhead or sit out on the dock looking at the stars. Water Winds is a quiet place. The only noise you will hear are the birds and the fish jumping and an occasional boat going by.
