Great views and perfect distance from App Mountain Ski Resort. The property management company was very responsive and answered all my questions in a timely manner. They even were able to allow us to check in earlier than 4pm. The place was very clean and had everything we needed for our two day stay. Highly recommended!

Truly a “Great Escape” that gave us a place to see the stars, the views and best of all quiet
This was a week get away for us after being cooped up for months in Miami during COVID. The views, The peace and quiet of the house coupled with the magnificent views at sunrise and sunset was exactly what our family needed. And the location is perfectly situated between Blowing Rock, Boone, Banner Elk and Grandfather made it so easy to to pick up and go. Defiance a vacation to remember.

We stayed here 2 years ago. It was so perfect for us, we came back. Im from NC, Piedmont area. But live in Florida, so we come up as often as we can. We came up on our spring break for the grands. We want to come back this summer. We need the 2 bedrooms downstairs, so this is great for us. We love it here!!!!

Our stay at Great Escape was very enjoyable. We had 5 Adults and it was very comfortable and true to the listing. The area was quiet and the house had everything we needed. The only negative was the firmness of the beds. They were quite hard and uncomfortable. Other than that we were very satisfied.

Overall it was nice. The floors squeak very badly and can be very annoying. The house needs some updating (Christmas decorations were still up outside).

Thoroughly enjoyed Great Escape. House is very comfortable....beds are firm which we loved. Great view although we would have loved if some of trees had been “limbed”. Perfect daily sunsets. STOCKED kitchen which was nice. We had to clean trash up several mornings as raccoons and bears ( we watched him) got into cans. ...even tho we secured with large rocks! Perfect location. Super rental home.

Hi Sara,
Thanks for your review. We are glad you were comfortable at this home but we are sorry to hear that the view was a little covered by the tress and that the animals kept getting into the trash. We will pass those concerns along. We hope you will stay with us again soon.
Best,
Kaytlyn
The first thing to notice when walking in are the amazing views! You can even see the lights at the slopes at night. It’s such a cozy home with everything you can possibly need. The play room above the detached car port is very cute. If you’re coming from Florida or any place where you don’t have steep hills or mountains be mentally prepared for the mountainous winding roads. I do recommend an AWF/RWD car in any season.

House was clean and very comfortable. Ample parking for our 3 vehicles. Would be difficult to access in winter weather without 4WD. Great views! Wish we had more time there. A Kuerig with complimentary k cups is always appreciated, but not present. They did have a coffee maker though with no coffee. Trash was an issue - we had to remove and we couldn’t find any extra large trash bags. I would definitely rent again!

The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is for 2 reasons. First, the trash cans to place the trash has been removed from the home. We are yet to find a place to put our trash and unfortunately had to bring it back home which was a 2 hour drive...UGH! Second, we went to grill hamburgers and the grill was gross and no gas. The house itself and views were awesome! The morning we left, we woke to snow on the ground! It was breathtaking!!!

The Great Escape is appropriately named! We chose this house for its location, view, level entry, and pet friendliness. From grandma to the teenager, there was space for everyone (8 people total). Our adventures included Sugar Mtn, App Ski Mtn, Grandfather Vineyards, Blowing Rock, and dinners at Casa Rustica and Woodlands-all of which were very accessible from this house. If only the Gamekeeper next door had been open during our stay! Highly recommend ordering firewood from the rental company. Kitchen was adequately stocked with appliances, pots, pans, etc. (BYO spices & paper products). Beds were comfortable and the teen loved the loft! We saw lots of deer and the sunsets were amazing! Glad we didn’t get too much snow/ice, though, because the drive in/out could have been tricky. We did have a 4WD! We hope to stay in the Great Escape again!
