I'm not sure what Jayden means. I know she is unhappy about the insurance claim as they broke the fixture in the bathroom, moved the LARGE tv without permission and now I need a tech to reinstall it and they spilt food and beverages on the sofa bed which now need to be replaced. they seemed happy to use my guitar and make music and seemed to enjoy their stay, so I'm at a loss as to this review. This is the perfect place for anyone looking for some of everything. Plenty of quiet relaxation space along with nice bedroom and dining area. Enough space to cook any meal and even extras that you might not have thought about bringing or knew you needed. We will be coming back again for certain! Jo-An is great too. :)
We were visiting the area. This is a nice neighborhood that we had not previously seen. Hostess was very nice. The unit has shared walls which are thin. Convenient to a nice park
My husband and I had a wonderful stay in St. Pete. The bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining and bathroom was very clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed cooking dinner together and swimming in the pool. Great location for going to beaches, Tampa, Tarpon Springs and more. Jo-An was a wonderful host, very accommodating and always available if you need her.

Thank you, Heather! I enjoyed meeting you and your hubby! Come back and stay again! Jo-An
This Vrbo is well located in the St Pete area. It's in a residential area that is very close to the Crescent Lake, Waterfront/Downtown area and incredibly affordable for the area. Good parking, full kitchen, a very nice backyard and covered pool area. Host is an accommodating, pleasant and helpful person. The Vrbo space is actually a separated, extension of the host home, but if location and affordability are top priorities, this is the place to stay.
We had a conference at the Duke Energy Center and this was the perfect, comfortable, close to our event place, at a much more reasonable cost than a hotel. So much homier than a sterile hotel. Peaceful home, all the needed amenities and more. Quiet safe neighborhood. And tons of great eating and drinking venues nearby. If we ever have to come back to StPete, we’re definitely staying here. Thank you Jo-Ann for opening your home to us.
It’s a great place with wood paneling and antique art and Jana see art details, kitchen was modern but no dish washer. Jo-An is a wonderful host. Too cold to swim but the pool was clean. Just a few Blocks away from Crescent Lake. The queen size bed is very firm. We’d stay again.
Although listed as a duplex, it was more a renovated side of a larger house. There was an access door from the outside as well as the inside that locked on both sides. The cats and parrots were not outside in nature, but outside of the guest residence. We were concerned talking or watching TV that it was too loud since we could clearly hear the owner on the phone. The residence met our needs as we didn't intend to be there during the day, and it absolutely was close to everything in St. Petersburg so driving or walking was not an issue. The area of town was lovely, and we felt safe.

The house was indeed a duplex, perhaps Pamela had never been in a duplex before? Had Pamela spoken with me, I would have been more sensitive to her hearing my phone conversations. Interesting that she says she could "clearly" hear my conversations as their side of the house is 2 walls and rooms away. Perhaps she was in the shared porch area and not in her closed apartment area?

Not what we expected
In the advertisement of the VRBO, no mention was made of the lack of a solid door from the kitchen to the back porch; which is open and a part of her living area and home. A curtain covers where the door should be. Windows in the kitchen and dining room have shades but no glass. EVERYconversation and phone call was heard. The bedroom and the bathroom were good. The bed was great. Living room was very dark with very soft and difficult to sit on couches. Some lights didn't work. We tried to talk to JoAn about our concerns about the lack of privacy and poor sound barriers. She seemed unable to understand the problem we had with the way her house was configured. We compensated and made the best of it since there was nothing we could do about it. We did buy our own chairs to sit on the front porch to sit in the sun and took them with us. We did swim once in the pool which was cold but nice. The patio table and grill were on the other side of her living area and would require walking through her outdoor area to use.Her kitty would try to visit us in the mornings by popping thru the curtain "door" of the kitchen. The cat litter smell was occasionally noticeShe could coming thru the curtain "door". She could make a considerable improvement by putting in adequate doors and windows and try to sound proof the wall between the living quarters.

Ralph and Nancy clearly cannot READ. All their complaints are spurious as the layout of the apartment and the wood carved screen between the two areas is CLEARLY described. Ralph did not respect the HOUSE rules and disrespected my property by buying a plunger and using it in the bathroom instead of contacting me about his concern. I had to call a plumber to remove hair from the sink for him. The Living room is not DARK - all my other guests remark on how sunny and comfortable the living room is. Regarding sound barriers, AGAIN, if he read the descriptions and comments of others he would have known about the configuration of the former duplex and how if one is speaking loudly one can hear loud conversations. If Ralph and Nancy wanted chairs to sit on the front porch they SHOULD HAVE ASKED. They did not. Regarding the cat, AGAIN that is noted int the description and HE SHOULD have read it. The first encounter with Ralph was unpleasant to say the least. He insisted that I buy a door and install it, REALLY? These guests were CERTAINLY NOT WHAT I EXPECTED.
If you're looking for a budge-priced one bedroom apartment within easy commute to everything St Petersburg, this is it. The apartment reminded me of a cabin in the woods, and is in a very nice residential neighborhood, ten minutes to historic downtown and 15 - 20 minutes to St Pete Beach, Madeira Beach and more. Joann & Richard are lovely hoshts, The apartment is adjoined to their house and separated by a privacy divider on the back porch. They are there if you need something but otherwise you have total privacy at the rear patio and pool. The pool looked nice but is unheated; and we preferred to spend time at one of the beaches. All-in-all, this is a great home base for one or two people, looking to explore any and all directions in St Petersburg, whether the cultural district, shopping or beaches. Thank you Joann & Richard! We had a very nice stay.

Thank you Sal! We enjoyed having you visit. And, your suggestion of some black-out shades for the bedroom is now a reality. Richard installed them yesterday so now folks who want the bedroom totally dark can lower the shades beneath the existing shades. Thank you for your suggestion!

Friendly host but no privacy
Jo-An is very nice and responsive but the description of it being a separate apartment is completely misleading. The wall dividing this unit from her home runs about 3/4 of the depth but the back of the unit is completely open to a shared porch. One of her cats came over to visit at night which wasn’t an issue for us but could be for someone with allergies and shows how this is not a separate apt. There is a privacy screen but we could hear everything she said which was extremely uncomfortable. My husband was going to be working remotely while I was at USF but he left to work at a coffee shop most days to avoid overhearing her conversations with her broker on speakerphone. I had told her he would be working remotely before we booked and asked if the WiFi was good and she said it was. The speed was fine but he was not able to use Outlook. When we talk to her about it she said she had the same problem and had to switch email providers which obviously my husband can’t do. It would’ve been helpful if we knew that ahead of time.
The place is older and a bit run down and we had some problems with grease ants in fact some of them made the return trip in his computer 😞 We are ok with it not being fancy but for the price we would expect a bit more like towels that don’t have bleach spots on them and a bathroom that isn’t full of toiletries from who knows who/when. It is definitely overpriced for what you get. It is also very dark, especially in the eating area so not a great place if you have to do more than sleep there. The neighborhood was nice and quiet though and we were able to walk to dinner downtown most nights. It does have a pool and lanai but those really felt more like her space than ours so we really didn’t use them. She also has a parrot out there and we didn’t want to disturb him.
Again, Jo-An is nice and responsive but we would never stay there again.

WOW! I am shocked by this review. If they had let me know their concerns I would have been happy to refund them and help them find somewhere else to stay. The apartment is private, the only shared space has a divider for the porch which is clearly stated in the listing. The dining area is an interior space off the kitchen and has bright Tiffanyesque floor lighting as well as a ceiling fixture with 6 bulbs with a dimmer switch. The apartment is part of a 1923 home that has beautiful wood floors, is freshly painted throughout and the bathroom and kitchen are new and recently renovated. This couple evidently do not appreciate the charm and character of the old homes of St. Petersburg.
I rarely give 5 stars in all categories but Jo-An and her property deserve them and perhaps even some 6's if they existed. The unit combines the charm provided by the preservation of a superbly built older home combined with the necessary upgrades needed to modernize a kitchen. The original oak flooring is in fabulous condition while the range hood and refrigerator are far higher quality than one would expect in a rental unit. She did not spare expense on the kitchen utensils either. There is a private entrance from both the front and rear porch like a properly constructed "mother-in-law's" apartment should possess. In addition, there is the interior doorway that can be locked from either side like in adjoining hotel rooms. The furnishings are very nice and the bed very comfortable. The large private pool can be accessed from the back porch and is inside a screen enclosure. Finally, you could not ask for a nicer, more helpful hostess. She was out when I departed but when we talked on the phone later, I jokingly told her that I hated to be honest about how great her place was because it would always be booked up and I would never get to stay there again. If you get an opportunity to stay there, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Jo-An.
Lovely neighborhood! Great place to walk and enjoy the surroundings. The kitchen had what we needed to prep our own meals without problems. Bed was comfortable and space nicely furnished. Close to good activities. The only surprise was the the guest quarters were actually a part of the main house separated by a door between dens and a curtain off of the kitchen. So we were very conscious of trying to stay quiet as we knew conversations could be heard. Pool was a nice bonus.

I am surprised that Becky did not read the description of the property. It clearly lets guests know this was originally a duplex. Regarding the curtain from the kitchen to the porch, it is there for the guest's use or not to keep the kitchen cool. There is a divider on the porch as stated in the description.
Property is centrally located to restaurants, shopping, and a short jaunt to the beach. Jo-An told us about Fort de Soto park which we loved. We had to shorten our visit due to illness and Jo-An was very generous to offer us reimbursement or a credit for a portion of our stay.
We really enjoyed this clean, well equipped apartment in an interesting neighborhood. Our morning walk to crescent lake park to watch amazing wildlife was a highlight of our trip. TV stations difficult to access. Jo-an was very helpful. We would return to this listing
My husband and I were supposed to be in St Pete for the month of March but had to cut our trip short due to COVID-19. Jo-An offered us a credit for our next visit! The property is great, there is a grill for cooking outdoors, relaxing by the pool was wonderful. Jo-An is a very friendly and accommodating host. We look forward to going back.

About the host
Hosted by Jo-An Thomas
As a military child, I have lived my life as a traveler, a seeker of culture, nature, knowledge, and people. People often ask where I am from, truly I don't know the answer to that question. Newfoundland, Canada? Fairbanks or Whittier Alaska? Williamsburg, Virginia? Hingham Massachusetts? Virginia Beach, Virginia? Puerto Rico? Panama? The Caribbean? Asia?
I have chosen St. Petersburg, Florida as my spiritual home. This place speaks to me of all the people, places and cultures I've known and reminds me of days gone by in happy times on other turfs. It is called "The Sunshine City" and I crave the warmth of the people, the place and the potential herein.
Why they chose this property
I looked for this property for two years. I wanted a home that reminded me of the places I'd lived. I love that there is plenty of land with vegetation surrounding what was originally a duplex. The two sides of the house were re-connected sometime in the 1960s. I have sectioned off the Guest Quarters/apartment for short-term rentals. It is private (but shared on the porch) for renters and has a private door to the pool area.
The location is convenient to downtown, restaurants, museums, Crescent Lake Park, art, and events. The beach is only 7 miles away unless one would like to use the beach downtown which is 2 miles away.
What makes this property unique
Guests tell me it is homey and not like a hotel, more like a place to feel at home.
