Cortijo El Terral is a superbly restored home with a good sized private pool situated in a secluded and peaceful location surrounded by grounds of terrace gardens and borders full of exotic plants, cacti and trees. The Cortijo has stunning, extensive, panoramic mountain views and looks towards the hilltop village of Comares. The Christians took two hundred years to recapture this fortress from the Moors. The little white washed village glistens in the sunshine and twinkles with lights at night. This small and unspoilt area of La Axarquia in Andalucia - to the north east of Malaga, is still an area untouched by tourism and is mainly agricultural. The high rugged mountains of the sierras are in the distance turning purple at dusk and the Mediterranean coast is to the south. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and wildlife.
We have lovingly restored the L shaped Cortijo and grounds over many years keeping the original style and features using traditional materials wherever possible. It has a wonderful history which we wish to preserve. The ceilings are beamed, the windows are shuttered and the heavy wooden doors have authentic handmade grills, nails called clavos and handmade door knockers.
There are 360 degree views from the Cortijo, which is unusual, looking towards the mountain called La Maroma (the highest mountain in the area), Comares and the undulating landscape of olive and almond trees towards Riogordo. An abundance of bright coloured wild plants and flowers (including orchids) and herbs cover the area. The wildlife of Gheckos, Chameleons and pretty little lizards can be seen. Beautiful birds visit the garden and fly overhead. The Cortijo is surrounded by our land and there is virtually no passing cars except for neighbours way above.
The colours of the distant landscape are constantly changing, contrasting with the bright red Hibiscus, the oranges and lemons in the garden, the rash of Almond blossom in the Springtime to the red earth and the profusion of wild flowers, pale green of the Olive trees and the strong leaves of the Yukkas and Draco’s and Palm trees against the blue sky.
Outside there are different planted terraces and a walkway goes completely around the house past the fruit trees to the tree lined gated drive, around to the hand built dry stone wall area past the Yukka trees onto the shaded areas on the same level as the pool and shower. The swimming pool measures 8 x 4 metres plus entry steps and is the same depth throughout 1.32 metres and is very secluded. There is a barbecue and a preparation area. Tables and chairs are found in five different areas, sunbeds by the pool and recliners under the shaded area are provided to help you unwind and relax.
Each room in the Cortijo has different far reaching views and the master bedrooms are comfortable and en suite. The single bedroom has a hand basin and accessed from one of the master bedrooms. All bed linen and bathroom towels are provided. External towels are provided for outside. The Cortijo feels welcoming and comfortable as soon as you arrive. We live in a separate part of the Cortijo and you are secluded and independent and have total privacy. There is a folder in the Cortijo with information on restaurants, shopping, places of interest and suggested visits with road directions.However, if you need help you can find us and we can advise and help you with out of the way places of interest to visit as well as the major attractions of Nerja, Granada, Cordoba, Ronda, Malaga, Marbella, Seville, Gibraltar and even Morocco!
