About this property
Secluded Cabin on the banks of the world-famous Penns Creek
Cot N Munch is one of the most private and peaceful properties located on the mighty Penns. The view and calm which you have from here will leave you in awe. It is located in a remote rural area at the end of a private lane. We have recently undergone some remodeling and now hopefully can offer you a vacation property to fulfill you're every need. As of 2020, we are pet-friendly, rules and fees apply, for 1 or 2 adult dogs only. Cot N Munch is a very quaint 2-bedroom cabin located on the banks of Penns Creek. It is located on stocked water, so you will have the usual on-off flow of passing fishermen, but when they are gone, you get to stay. For all you Fly fishermen, you now have another 4 miles of incredible water for catch and release. The fire ring area and the cabin have undergone extensive remodeling to add and create a more private situation for you. The new view from the fire ring and the end porch are actually much more enjoyable than before. Now, in the living room is a newly recovered 1908 Brunswick pool table. Please, read and follow the posted use instructions. We have also added a horseshoe and quit area, along with more landscaping enhancements. The kitchen includes everything you will need as mentioned, except food. We supply heavy-duty paper place settings, regular silverware, and utensils. Please, dispose of all food scraps as instructed and separate recyclables and burnables. Follow the posted rules you read in the rental agreement. There is a table located in the front nook which is an ideal place to enjoy your morning coffee or to sit with your laptop and enjoy the added benefit of available Wi-Fi/internet. You may use the log-on information posted on the side of the refrigerator. In this area, you will find a gas-burning fireplace and a gas-burning wall unit. Directions as to their use are posted, please follow. We've added Mini-splits in the kitchen-dining room, living room, and upstairs main bedroom which more than take care of your cooling and heating needs. Remotes are mounted in the proximity of each unit. Up the stairs is a bedroom containing two singles and a full bed. Walking through to a Semi-private bedroom with a double bed. Also, enjoy the second story deck. Please. no more than 8 people on deck at any time. Downstairs is the master bedroom with a queen bed. With the 3 bedrooms, you can comfortably sleep 6 people. In the living room is a futon and a pull-out single bed if more sleeping needs are necessary. The cabin bathroom contains an eco-friendly composting toilet, with easy-to-follow posted directions for its use. Please, nothing other than toilet paper and composting materials in the toilet. There is a waste can for other paper and a small can on the floor for male or female personal hygiene products. There is a water container and an old-fashioned bowl and pitcher for quick wash-ups. Just a few steps from the cabin is the shower house. In this building, you will find two showers and a heated dressing room. Also, in this partially enclosed building you will find a double bowl sink which is our fish cleaning station. Here you can gather water for cooking, washing pots, pans, and utensils in provided basins, or cleaning your catch from the creek. If you feel like a real pioneer, feel free to use the outhouse. To the rear of the property is a large two-bay structure to keep your vehicles, or to store your kayaks and or bicycles. Also, a Gas grill. Follow posted rules on its use and remember to turn off the gas when done. On the screened-in porch, you will find an old glider and table for 4 to sit and sip your morning coffee or your afternoon beverage. Hanging on the porch are several mountain pie makers for your use at the fire ring, along with hot dog forks. Please, clean these before leaving and return to their proper place. The fire-ring area has lighting and power if you need to plug something in such as a crock-pot for your outside dining. There is also an old log holder and grills at the fire ring if you decide to prepare your meals on an open fire. We've found that the mountain pie makers work quite well to cook burgers. Bonfires are welcome, there is enough wood in the log holder for a weekend. Please, be reasonable with your fires and use of wood. Make sure your fire is extinguished before you leave or before you retire for the evening. If there is a burn ban in effect, we will apprise you of that situation upon your arrival. We encourage you to pick up any sticks lying about on the property and place them in the fire ring, thank you. As of 2025 instead of raising rates, we will no longer be providing linens for the beds, unless it is requested before your arrival. For a minimal fee, linens will not only be provided but also in place. If you are bringing your bedding, please refer to and become associated with the different types of beds available regarding how many are in your party and where they will be sleeping. We will continue to provide a comforter, pillows, kitchen, bath towels, and wash clothes. We provide dish soap only. Bathing soaps and or shampoos are up to you. Feel free to bring your pillows, bedding, and bath towels if so desired. If using our bedding, before your leaving, please remove all bedding except the mattress cover and place it on a pile at the foot of the bed along with used bath and kitchen towels and wash clothes. Rules on waste disposal, burnables, and recycling are posted in the cabin and listed in the rental agreement. Not following the rules and policies could result in a fee from your security deposit. All switches are marked as to their use. There is no smoking inside the cabin. There are several milk cans at various locations for your butts, along with the fire ring. Please do not discard butts on the grounds anywhere. We will be walking the grounds after you leave and you will be assessed a fee from your security deposit if we have to clean up after you. Please, respect the rules and policies for us, yourself, and the next guest There is no parking of RVS during your stay. Parking areas are easily distinguished from grass areas. No driving through or in yard areas. Please, do not attempt to move picnic tables. The chairs around the fire ring may be moved anywhere within reason except to your home. Do not play, walk, or allow children to play on the stone wall along the front of the property. Do not move or remove any stones from said wall. It was one of my last labors of love prior to my back surgery and as you can imagine took quite some time and energy. Cot N Munch is not an all-night party place. While we do not discourage the use of alcoholic beverages, we do ask that you be reasonable in your use. On occasion, you will have neighbors at their site next to you. Respect them and their privacy. Quiet time is 10:00 PM. Remember, before leaving to check the cabin and garage along with the shower house for any and all personal items you brought along. Please, remove any and all leftover food and drink items from the refrigerator. Because we use the property also you will see that we have a lot of personal items there, pictures, tools, antiques, and quite a vast CD collection. We hope that you will leave everything as and where it is. You are in the woods and so during your visit, you may encounter wildlife. Do your best to leave them alone and they should do the same for you. Do not tease or bother them. Do not encourage them by leaving food scraps or garbage anywhere other than its proper place. If you encounter an animal carcass or a bee nest do not attempt to remove it on your own, contact us immediately. If you find something broken or missing or as not described, please, also contact us at once. In closing, all we ask is you leave it like you found it. In doing this you will help to keep the cost of Cot N Munch affordable for yourself and others. We ask that you do this so we can continue to make Cot N Munch available and affordable to you and to all those who need the peace and calm they find here. VRBO will no longer allow me to release your security deposit immediately so according to their rules it is returned to you after 14 days if no damage has occurred. Cot N Munch accommodations are for the people listed on the rental agreement only. If you rent the cabin and have less, then 6 people but decide to bring along more yet still remain under 6 this situation will need to be addressed before your check-in. Bad checks will be treated as stated in the rental agreement. Please, plan your visit and the amount paid prior to arriving to avoid this situation for all of us. The cancellation process and reimbursement policies are listed in the rental agreement The rules and policies that were mentioned in this description are included along with all others in the rental agreement. When you sign the rental agreement, you are stating you agree to and acknowledge these rules and policies. SORRY, YOU MUST BE 21 AND PRESENT AT CHECK IN ORDER TO RENT THE CABIN. We can only take partial credit for the view as it's provided by Mother Nature, just enhanced by us. Delighted that you enjoyed yourselves. Happy to have you return. Take care and safe travels wherever you go.
The location was was beautiful, but the cabin was a little more rustic than we were expecting. It did have everything we needed..we weren't expecting the toilet to be pit and no running water.

We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed our cabin. We're glad you got to see what the woods and area have to offer, except for the copperhead, and we're hoping it was a milk snake or another species.
Amazing, clean, and peaceful. I celebrated my 30th birthday for a long weekend here as a solo trip with my dog. Parents stayed a night to celebrate as well. This was my first solo trip with my dog and the place was beautiful, quiet, it really gave me a chance to slow down in life. I will return ! I would love to see it in the fall !

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We absolutely love first-time renters becoming regular renters and returning.
The property was an ideal setting in the woods by the creek. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for fly fishing during our stay. The hosts have made the cabin very user friendly and inviting.

Sorry about the weather not cooperating, as all we can control are the accommodations. We are always glad to hear they were to your liking.
My husband and son stayed at John’s place to enjoy a fishing trip. The cabin was clean and had alot of character. John was sure to make it a point to check in with my husband to make sure they were comfortable. Would return for a future trip.

We're glad to hear accommodations were to your liking, and we always like to hear of your possibility of returning. Thank you for picking our little piece of paradise for your vacation.
Fantastic day as always! It is our second year in a row visiting this wonderful cabin in the woods. Right on the water where the boys and girls can go fishing swimming and just enjoy this majestic scenery of it all. Barbecuing on the open fire pit out back playing old style horseshoes with real horseshoes and having a pool table inside what more can anyone ask for? Oh wait but there's more! You can go to the rooftop and just look at the gorgeous stars at night perfect view perfect setting perfect each year. Will be back.

Getting reviews from people who know what they're getting and love it is more than just appreciated. To receive a review like this is humbling and makes the time we put into this cabin worth it. Thank you so much!
The location is awesome and you can walk right out to the creek. Not to mention all the stone work John and Wendy have put in with the fire pit, wall, and walkways.
Very relaxing spot, John and Wendy were great hosts.

We cleaned it up some, but nature gives us the view. The fire pit, on the other hand, took some work, glad ya like it.
Thanks Bryon, take care and safe travels wherever you go.
About the host
Hosted by John and Wendy Erdley
Hello, John and Wendy Erdley here. I am a retired asphalt construction worker and non-retired musician (drummer). Wendy is a 20 year employee of the Snyder County Court House.. After purchasing the home down Eagle Lane over 25 years ago on one of my first walks down the old rail bed I discovered this cabin. After 3 attempts to purchase it over a 20 year period it one day became a reality. In my early teens my 2 Uncles with me in tow would visit the Weikert area for the first day of Trout season. On the way home we would park along the road and walk down a dirt lane to the Penns. Imagine my surprise walking up the lane one day after a morning fish to realize it was in fact the same lane. This is one of the reasons this place holds such a special place in my heart.
Why they chose this property
What do realtors say, location, location! Cot N Munch is located on the banks of one of the most famous Trout streams on the east coast, the Penns Creek. Most famous for its fly hatches, with the biggest being the Green Drake. Over the years I've spent quite some time on the beautiful water of the Penns and from what I've seen I can tell you there are few cabins that offer you as much privacy with the view and calm you have here.
What makes this property unique
Cot N Munch is centrally located a few miles off Route 45 between the Lewisburg Bucknell University and State College, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions. We are within minutes of the Coburn to Cherry Run hiking and biking trail to the west and the Buffalo Valley trail to the east. A short drive to groceries, fuel, restaurants, microbreweries, wineries, State Forrest, and State Game lands. We are 10 miles away from Woodward Camp, a modern X games training facility. Don't forget to check out the animals and feed the fish at the Union County Sportsmen Club.
