The place was super cute and in a really adorable neighborhood! It was very close to Beech Mountain and Banner Elk. We had deer outside every morning which the kids absolutely loved. The owner was super responsive—highly recommend and we’d definitely stay again!
We had a great long weekend at the Read Retreat! It was the perfect place for a guy’s ski weekend. The property slept 8 comfortably and we had plenty of space to hangout while we weren’t skiing and exploring Beech Mountain a downtown Banner Elk. Thanks so much for sharing your property. 10/10 would recommend staying here!
The house was perfect for our family. Convenient to Beech, Hawksnest, the alpine coaster, etc. Well kept and charming. We loved seeing the deer around and exploring along the creek out back. The hot tub and game room were a hit with my kids.
Cabin is immaculate and in a location where deer walk right up to you. The place had plenty of room and was exactly as described. The host Kimberly was great to work with and was very helpful. Definitely would recommend and would absolutely stay here again!
We loved our stay at the Read Retreat! Having four bedrooms and four bathrooms was such a treat. The house was fully stocked with plenty of blankets, towels, and pillows, which made everything super comfortable. Kim even called to welcome us and make sure we got in okay—such a nice touch! Our kids loved the hot tub and fire pit! Just a heads up: make sure to grab your supplies before heading up, because it’s definitely tucked away in the mountains!
The Read Retreat was a perfect little cabin with all the “essentials!” It is “UP” the mountain on a few twisty roads but, it’s not a bad drive at all and is in a good location to surrounding areas. We had lots of deer sightings and one black bear as well! I would highly recommend the Read Retreat!
The property was clean and had everything we needed during our stay. The owner responded quickly and the house was exactly as pictured. The hot tub was very nice after long days skiing and my boys loved feeding the deer with the corn that was supplied. We would definitely stay at this property again.
Plenty of room for everyone and four full baths a definite plus. Hot tub, fire pit, carefree deer everywhere and of course the 5500 elevation views. A great place with room for everyone.
This was a fabulous place to getaway with family. We couldn’t have been more pleased with this rental. It was everything and more than expected from rental site. We definitely want to visit again and will recommend to other family and friends.

Cheers to Mountain Memories,

This home was perfect for our ski trip! We had a short drive to Beech mountain and relaxing in the hot tub after a long day was perfect! We had a group of 4 couples and had plenty of space! Kim was a great host and was quick to respond to any needs we had! We even had the chance to feed some deer that were hanging out in the back yard. Such a great time!
This was a perfect setting for a summer writing retreat for our cohort of 5. The location is really lovely, with a back yard that leads to a creek and then a walking trail. We had two deer visit us regularly and also saw a mama bear and her four adorable cubs. We each had our own bed, although one brave soul had to sleep in the top bunk. (She was a great sport about that!) Overall a good stay!
We stayed over Christmas with 10 people total from ages 4-44. It was so relaxing and beautiful. We all fit comfortably and had an incredible Christmas vacation. Skiing and tubing was close. Kimberly, the owner was so friendly and gracious! Thank you Read family for helping us have a magical Christmas in the mountains!!!
We had a lovely time at the Read Retreat! The host was very thorough with directions and check in information prior to our stay and was quick to respond to any needs during our visit! The cabin is secluded and beautiful inside and out! It’s only a 5 min drive to restaurants and a really cute general store for any of your grocery needs! The Read’s even left a bottle of wine and a bag of corn to feed the deer. We were lucky enough to have 4 deer in the front yard almost eating out of our hand on Saturday morning!
So glad we stumbled on this cabin. It is an absolute gem. Loved the wood burning fireplace, hot tub, fire pit. Beds were super comfortable, lots of room for everyone to stretch out. Updated bathrooms were a plus. We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin and the area/neighborhood and would love to buy in this area. The "hiking trails" behind the cabin were more than just neighborhood paths! We left the cabin and were gone exploring for hours. For those nervous about driving in the mountains it is steep but not sketchy. I wouldn't try it in the snow without 4WD but our old minivan did just fine.Thank you for sharing your wonderful retreat with us!

About the host
Hosted by Kimberly Read
Hi! We are Erik, Kim and Brent Read! We live, work and play in South Florida. Both Erik and Kim were born and raised in Pennsylvania, but have resided in in South since the 90's. Our home is in Florida, but our hearts are in North Carolina! While we love boating, water sports and the beach, we yearn for the change of seasons, snow, hiking and winter sports as well!
Why they chose this property
It has always been a dream of ours to own a cabin in the mountains and a few years ago our dream came true! Erik and Kim have vacationed at Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain for decades and now we get to give our son, Brent, the same experiences we had growing up. We are excited to pass down the Read Retreat to the future generations, but in the meantime we get to share our little slice of heaven with other families!
What makes this property unique
The Read Retreat is a special cabin that allows families to reconnect with nature and each other. We have a creek that runs right through the backyard. If you wade across the creek, you can access miles of hiking trails and maybe even stumble upon "Fairy Glen." We are less than a mile for the Beech Mountain Resort which offers snowboarding, skiing, outdoor ice skating and tubing in the winter and biking, hiking, and mountain top yoga in the summer. No trip is complete without a stop at the Beech Mountain Brewery located right on the Mountain! There is nothing better than curling up with a book in front of the crackling fire, unless it is watching the deer mull about the backyard while you soak in the hot tub! We love our cabin and we know you will too!
