About this property

Michael's Cabin - A Cozy Well-Designed Cabin For A Woodsy Retreat

Newly built/designed cabin on the 'quietside' of Mount Desert Island (in the town of Southwest Harbor). A short drive to downtown, this one bedroom with loft cabin is warm and cozy. With gas fireplace, AC unit, and all the amenities one would need to begin and end a perfect day in Acadia National Park, it is situated close to nearby hikes, water access for boating, sailing, and ocean kayaking. Southwest Harbor has many wonderful restaurants, lobster pounds, coffee shops, galleries, and shopping.

Michael's Cabin is named after my brother, Michael. Two or three times per year, he would escape New York City to spend a week or so with me and the rest of his family in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Near my office and shop was a small woodlot and for years, every time Michael visited, he found himself drawn to the location and began to imagine a simple cabin there. Every year, Michael and I discussed his cabin and always said 'next summer.' Seven years later, I had an unexpected slowdown of work. Trying to keep my carpenters busy with odd jobs but running out of tasks, one of the boys suggested, “Hey, what about Mike’s cabin?” Being a builder, I made the cabin a little fancier than Michael imagined yet it sits so comfortably in that woodlot as if it were always there. Once you enter it, you are hard pressed to find a good reason to leave.

Loved the cabin...

Great cabin very charming! The only thing is that we wish there were more supplies, we had to buy a frying pan and a tea kettle and toilet paper and the utensils were mostly plastic. Wish there was a place to put clothes no drawer space and a very small closet. I don't like to live out of my suitcase for a week. Other than that very cute cabin and I liked that they had a wagon for the luggage when you arrive and depart. The gas stove was great really heated up the place! Great windows in cabin and loved the front porch area! Thank you!

Great little cabin

We spent a beautiful week at this cabin and on the whole, I have no complaints. The cabin was clean, the bed comfortable and the atmosphere lovely and complete with deer sightings on two mornings. But to be honest the only things lacking were 1. A window fan for the bedroom. It was warm a few nights and without air conditioning (which I didn’t mind) it would have circulated the air and added some white noise for the road. 2. The kitchen could use some more outfitting. There were no kitchen towels, or a drain board for dishes. Both of these critiques are minor compared to the amazing hosts and our overall experience. Would definitely tell friends about it and rent this cabin again and again.
