Interested in staying longer? Ask me about our lease rates for three or more months that include housekeeping, Internet, and utilities.
Please note, that per Charleston's draconian ordinances, we are a monthly rental and do not rent by the night. However, at these fabulous rates, you can book for a month for the cost of two weeks in the party district!
Cancellation Policy We are not the Hilton, and when you make a reservation, we hold the space for you and turn away other guests so you will have this special place. People searching for monthly rentals usually book 6-12 months in advance, as such we are not able to offer “flexible” cancellations.

Great location. Comfortable, well-furnished accommodations. Easy and convenient off-street parking. The host was inviting and very accessible. In short, we loved it and will be back!
We spent a month in October/November 2025 to experience Charleston. I don’t know that we could have had a better experience at Maxine’s place. The location across from Colonial Lake and walking distance to the river and downtown is perfect and totally walkable. Having 2 parking spots was another huge bonus. I’m leaving a great review because it is deserved, but I’m hoping this doesn’t impact our ability to book again in the future due to resulting popularity ;)Book without hesitation
Maxine’s townhouse is perfectly situated in Charleston, across the street from Colonial Lake, in a very safe and walkable area. Her house is well stocked with everything you need for an extended stay. The neighbors are friendly. The two designated parking spaces in front are very helpful, plus plenty of free on street parking. It was the perfect place for a two month stay. Highly recommend!
This is a great location to experience Charleston on foot. Everything is within walking distance and is so convenient. We so enjoyed our stay and hope to be back soon.
Maxine was a wonderful host and her property was comfortable and made for a delightful stay! The location, across from Colonial Lake and within walking distance of almost everything, was perfect!

Response from VrboOwner on 8 Apr 2025
We are confused and surprised by this review and wonder if the guest was writing this about another property he recently stayed in, as this review does not match our home or experience with the guest. We do not have carpet, the unit was professionally deep cleaned just before their arrival, new photos to showcase the new kitchen appliances and bedding were take two days before they arrived, and they said they liked the unit and inquired about booking another of my properties with 2-full baths next year.
37 Ashley is a beautiful, comfortable home. We stayed for two months and would happily return. Maxine is a terrific host who responds instantly to any concern. We feel so lucky to have found this terrific spot. The location is perfect for walking and exploring Charleston.
The property owner was great. Anytime we had a question we texted owner and we would get a response back in a couple hours. House is spotless and has all the household items that you need for an extended stay. We liked it so much we stayed there two times for multiple months.
Great location right by Colonial Lake and within walking distance of King Street shopping and French Quarter. Comfortable, well-equipped. Highly responsive and charming owner.

The Best
This is a pet-friendly house in a lovely neighborhood less than a mile from downtown. It is located in a very walkable neighborhood, next to beautiful mansions, a lake, and the battery. Maxine is a very attentive host. All in all a great experience!
Great location, best equipped kitchen for folks that like to cook, master bedroom bed very, very, comfortable, great water pressure, very safe neighborhood, 2 parking spaces, owner lives nearby and made us feel comfortable in her former residence. 5 star overall.
We had a wonderful time! This place has lots of charm and such a warm place to come home to after long days of exploring, walking around and eating yummy food.
It is also centrally located and allowed us to fill our days with walks around Colonial Lake (literally across the street) and down to French Quarters. It is also conveniently located for short drives to explore the surrounding areas and beaches.
It was our first time in Charleston, and this place allowed us to take in as much as we possibly could in one week.
We look forward to returning soon!

We were in Charleston yea...
We were in Charleston years ago while I was a research fellow at MUSC. When we found this town house located on Ashley Avenue, near Colonial Lake; we were excited. We knew this location was great and very popular. When we came to the house we found everything just we had dreamed. We had stayed two months and enjoyed a lot. We recommend this house to every one coming to Charleston!
We loved everything about staying at this property. Carefully maintained and decorated, this townhouse is spacious, light and very clean comfortable - plus it’s in an outstanding location at the corner of Colonial Lake. The location feels quiet and distant from the crowds visiting historic downtown, but actually it’s only a few blocks away from restaurants, bistros, galleries and shops. The host could not be more gracious and responded immediately to any question. I recommend this wonderful property most highly.

Great place
Property is wonderful. Lots of parking, which is at a premium in Charleston. Easy Uber if you don’t have a vehicle. Short walk through South of Broad to the Battery, about a mile to upscale shopping. Nicely furnished, everything you will need for a month. The owner is very accommodating and available.

What a superbly charming ...
What a superbly charming house on Colonial Lake. Palmetto motive very fetching and fitting. The position is perfect for walking the whole town. Improv at theatre 99 to be recommended, plus all the garden & house tours available. Wireless in the house is most welcome. Perfect house, felt like home from home - hopefully available again. My wife and I had to be in Charleston for medical treatment at MUSC. The location was so convienent for our daily visits, 4 minutes from the Hollings Cancer Center.
Aside from why we were there, the location was perfect for everything "historic Charleston." Situated among streets of history and amazing historic streets and homes to stroll among. You can safely walk to your hearts content.
Our host, Maxine, was most easy to contact and was accomodating to our needs. Her townhome was clean, well maintained and tasefully decorated. Everything that you would need to get started for a long term stay was there for our use.
Our 2nd evenig there, the television faded to black and it was done. Maxine had a new one installed the very next day. And she fully loaded it with streaming programming, Netflix and such. What more could you ask from a host?
Thank you for everything, Maxine.

About the host
Hosted by Maxine
This was my home for years before moving to Washington, DC. I hope you will enjoy visiting as much as I loved living here. I am a real estate agent licensed in SC and VA - if you have any questions about Charleston or would like to talk with a Realtor, I know several I can recommend for you.
Why they chose this property
It is perfectly located Downtown on the quiet side of the peninsula. You have all of the charm of being in the historic district without all of the tourist traffic. If you are driving, you will also enjoy two off-street parking spaces, a rare find in this part of town!
I love being across the street from Colonial Lake and the tennis courts. My dog loves being adjacent to the Horse Lot, a park where all of the local dogs gather.
What makes this property unique
The location is fabulous... you are downtown near the Battery and King Street but out of the heavily trafficked French Quarter. We have hosted everyone from visiting faculty at MUSC and Spoleto artists, to people relocating to the area and those who just enjoy visiting like a local.
