It was raining when we got there and we were surprised to find out. The only parking was in the yard through a very small gate. The first person to use the downstairs bathroom the toilet seat came off. My husband was able to put it back on, but every time someone use the restroom it came off. The skylights and the downstairs living room did not block any sun, so the children were up at six in the morning. I was not aware that there was no air conditioning with 90 weather. The house stayed hot most the night. The mattresses need to be replaced. We did not sleep for three nights so we were miserable. I have stayed in the Vrbo before, and this by all means did not measure up to comfort by any means.
The property is in an excellent location - close to a lot of activities, yet in the mountains where you feel like you can escape from the city. It was a very comfortable home, and the property owners were very communicative.
We loved our stay! This was close to all the amazing ventures in and around Manitou Springs, and the home was clean and well-furnished and well-supplied! We had everything we could need to enjoy the stay for even longer! We cooked quite a bit, too! We love this 100 year-plus home nestled in the woods next to a mountain with the beautiful Cascade creek! Thank you!
Fun, quirky, attractive old house that’s close to attractions but still away-from-it-all, nestled in the foothills of Pikes Peak. Staying in this property was one of the highlights of an already great geataway vacation.
What a beautiful place to stay, tucked away setting along a peaceful stream for calming sleep. Very close to a hiking trail and a great restaurant along that same stream. Garden of the Gods was the highlight. Majestic views of the red rocks while hiking along the Palmer trail.
We had a great experience during our stay. The communication was great. The check in process was easy. It is in a great location. Quiet with a stream out front. The backyard is a mountain! Exploring was fun. The house was beautiful and has everything you would need. Can't say enough good things.
This is a very nice older house. Ruth was very quick in responding to the questions we had. It took me a minute to realize that the remote that is listed in the folder is not the remote that I needed to use for the TV.. Good thing it wasn’t there. I reached out to Ruth and she responded back and explain to me how to operate the existing system. If I ever make it back that way, I will stay there again if it is available. Thank you, Ruth. You have a lovely place.
The house was in a great location for our activities and in a beautiful setting. Everything was as advised and although there was a mix up initially on VRBO's part, the homeowner worked quickly to resolve it and communicate with me. The only downside was that the TV could not connect to the wifi for streaming. After long, difficult hikes, we really wanted to sit and watch TV/movies. It does sound like this was a one time problem that will be resolved but wasn't able to be done until after we were gone.
A delightful house in a great setting. The long front porch with a swing, table and chairs was our favorite spot. Very comfortable, with lots of little extras. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, although I would like to have known a little earlier how we would receive the address, etc. We'd love to come back!
We enjoyed a wonderful family weekend at this property. Location was convenient to the many attractions we visited which included Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs, and Pikes Peak. The owner was very responsive and checked in to ensure our stay was going well. Made some great memories with our family.
We loved staying in this house. It was cozy and comfortable. Coming from a very hot state we were a little thrown by no A/C but quickly discovered it was perfect with open windows! We loved our time in Cascade and quit afternoons reading on the porch!
Relaxing porch swing in a beautiful forest location. Stream across the street. Delightful older house. Perfect. Clean. Comfortable. We would stay again.
My husband and I had been looking for a hotel near Colorado Springs for our family vacation with our 4 kids. I am so happy we accidentally came across VRBO! I had never heard of it and it almost seemed too good to be true. Well, it is true and completely legit and felt even more homey and relaxing then the pictures even gave this place credit for! It was the perfect location being next to pikes Peak and just up the road from most of our activities in Manitou springs. There was a creek in front of the house that the kids enjoyed playing in and a small park just across the way. The house is clean and gave us so much more room for our family to spread out in and cook our own meals rather than being in a tight hotel room for nearly the same cost. There was some construction on a nearby house so our water was shut off one day but the property owners called me when they found out to check on us. They were very friendly to work with. Check in and check out was a breeze. Was thankful for a well-stocked kitchen and a decent sized washer and dryer so that we did not have to pack as much clothing. When my kids realize we were packing up to leave they were all very disappointed and said they wanted to stay in this awesome house longer. My three-year-old decided she wanted to live there Haha. A big “thank you“ to Bruce and Ruth for a wonderful family vacation.
—If I had to look for something to improve I can think of 4 things. But they obviously are not necessary to have a wonderful stay.
1) maybe hanging some black out curtains in addition to the blinds. The sun comes up SO early in Colorado…
2) The beds were really comfortable and the only thing that would have made ours better is if it were a king size.
3) maybe having some more bottles of good cleaners on hand. We had a child get sick and puke. Luckily we had brought some of our own cleaners.
4) The upstairs bathroom looks really nice and the kids loved the tub. What I did not like was the lack of space to put anything. No good place to set our toothbrushes, soaps, anything. The mirror was obviously hung by a very tall person and was super small. I could only see the top part of my head in it LOL. There is a bath sign hanging right above the sink which is where a mirror really should be. Ideas: maybe put a long basket on the back of the toilet. Hang a medicine cabinet with mirror above the sink like the downstairs bathroom, which, BTW, I LOVE! Or install a sink/vanity w/cabinets.

Why they chose this property
This was our first home that we bought and loved that it is an older home in a mountain setting. The first moment we saw it, we knew we had to live there. Though we moved to Fort Collins, we decided to keep this house in our family.
What makes this property unique
We have a beautiful front porch with a porch swing that is enjoyable both in the morning for coffee to enjoy an evening summer meal.
The fir woodwork in the house is beautiful and invites a feeling of warmth.
