Everything was lovely and picturesque. The cabin was so comfortable and cozy and it had everything I needed! The hosts provided all the info I needed very early on so I could prepare appropriately. 10/10 would book again.
The cabin was amazing along with the river and hot tub. It was very welcoming and homey as soon as you walk through the door. It was a relaxing weekend away with great views. The old time feel took us back in time and made for a great experience.
Beautiful cabin was a peaceful getaway. Love all the authentic touches in the cabin. The hot tubs was our evening highlight. We fished everwhere but was the best off the deck. We will definitely come again.
Cute little property, take lots of bug spray! Hot tub is relaxing. If you take your dogs, just be careful if they are not dog friendly, as sometimes the neighbor dogs come onto the property. The town is extremely dog friendly too!
had a great time fishing and relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings nice little secluded place off the beaten pathwould def recommend and the kitchen is stocked well with different pots and pans
Wonderful property, surrounded by nature. A beautiful escape by the river with a gorgeous view of the hills all around. If you need a getaway in the great outdoors, this is the place for you.
A beautiful location and atmosphere! If you're looking for a place to relax and unwind this is the PERFECT spot! The cabin is cozy, warm and inviting and the front decks overlooking the running river are peaceful and relaxing! I highly recommend and I will definitely will be back for another stay!!

I would suggest it only be rented in fall, summer, or spring. It has an air conditioner in a window and that permits very cold air into the living area. But it is adorable.
This house was just the coolest with its vintage log cabin vibe, and the gigantic fireplace was such a hit for my husband and I! It was so cozy and warm, and we loved, listening to the rapids right outside the screen door. Chemicals in the hot tub We’re pretty strong tho.. the steam was actually stinging my eyes and nose. Other than that everything was just perfect.
The cabin was great for a couple. The rustic feel of the cabin, the fireplace, hot tub, and sitting on the deck by the river. Most everything was great, but my only complaint was the quality of the mattress on the bed. It was very soft with a noticeable dip in the middle. As a side sleeper, it was uncomfortable and had to sleep on my back. Otherwise, great place and grear location!
We LOVED staying at this cabin. We live right outside of DC and were looking for a spot to unplug and relax for the weekend. The cabin was just under 2 hours away and it looked perfect online - turns out it was even better than perfect in person! Donna and Brad are lovely people and they were extremely helpful throughout the whole process. The cabin is PERFECT!!! It’s clean, spacious and in the perfect spot. The porch and deck have amazing views and the property itself is perfectly tucked away so you don’t deal with the typical car noises and such. I honestly think we’ve found our spot for the years to come and can’t wait to go back!
Rules, rules, rules - Beautiful place with too many rules
It's a beautiful place that is wonderfully isolated along a river, but the number and diversity of rules for the cabin are a bit much. While it is certainly the owner's discretion on how to manage their properties, there are literally pages of rules, rules framed on walls, rules on end tables, etc. which took away from some of our enjoyment due to trying to avoid any rule mistakes.

Thank you for your review and your kind words as we always strive for excellence. Every business has rules and regulations. Our rules are put in place to protect the integrity of the cabin and to make sure there are no problems for the following and future guests. Our rules are simple and primarily request that our cabins are left clean, pick up after your pet, no slaming logs into fire place and breaking grate, no rip roaring huge fires that could cause a chimney fire and no trespassing onto other people's property. Just basic simple respect for the cabin and others. That's about it. Personally I would not feel comfortable staying in a place with no rules. Most guests are very respectful, however unfortuneately it just takes one to ruin it for others. Most of our rules were put in place after an ocassional unruley guest created a problem. Thank you.

Dog restrictive
Based on all the warnings framed around the house people in the past must have been destructive to the place. Unfortunately, it is like the grandmother whose nickname is no-no “don’t touch anything”. The cabin itself is fantastic and for a couple with no dogs would be great. We had a 2 day and just left after the first as the place is nice but no way we could guarantee no dog hair.

The sign over the fireplace simply says "please do not "throw firewood logs" into fireplace, please place them gently as we have had several grates broken plus it can disburse live fire ash. Secondly, some guests have wondered over to private property not owned by us in the past and said owners have reached out to me to make guests aware. So we simply ask people (with a pictured frame) not to trespass on others' property, which is reasonable. Not sure where the dog hair comment is coming from. We do not have any signs about that but we are one of the few cabins owners in our area that permits dogs, so we do expect people to be resonable for their pets. If your dog is a shedder, please sweep up the hair and take your dog waste. Totally reasonable but there are no signs around cabin displaying such. Our confirmation letter tells people to pick up after your pets. This review of two Stars seems to be a bit exaggerated especially in light of the fact that it's all about a non-existent sign asking people to pick up their dog hair. It may be listed in the Welcome loose leaf binder with lots of other helpful information including things to do in the area. Either way, if cabin owners like myself are nice enough to permit people's dogs without charging a deposit, then folks bringing pets need to be responsible for cleaning up after them.
Otherwise, you ruin it for other folks who want to bring pets who are responsible pet owners and pet parents. Not complicated!

Unfortunate
Drive to the cabin and surrounding area is beautiful. Upon arrival, found bed had no sheets and bathroom had no towels which I paid extra for. Expressed to owner these weren’t provided, she brought two towels for two people for a 5 day stay…told us if we need more, we can purchase at Walmart. Don’t count on the coin laundry…that’s in town, not on premises which is listed in rental amenities. Deck has areas of severe rot…watch where you step….especially around the hot tub. Pet friendly..? No pets allowed on furniture! Make sure they’re bathed and brushed before you get there, and make sure you leave no dog hair behind…you will be charged extra for cleaning if there is…that is stated in the rule book, which is a good read. The cabin itself is beautiful. It would have been nice if the outside of the deck and property were cleaned up. Be aware that the property owners live right next door. The worst thing was on the last day, we got up early to dispose of our trash as per the rules…we were gone for 20 minutes to come back to find that the owner was inside the cabin… with our belongings. We took care of the trash at 8 am, check out is 11 am. That is just wrong and made us feel very violated!

In response, my cleaning lady accidently forgot to put sheets and towels in cabin as most people choose to bring their own. So as soon as we were made aware, we immediatly put the sheets and towels in cabin. It was not a dramatic situation. When we supply sheets and towels, everyone is told what we supply, so it was no secret that we supply queen sheets, two towels and two wash cloths. Incorrect post about laundry, we do not advertise coin laundry. All decks at all cabins were pressured washed in August 2023, old boards replaced with new, as there were a few boards that needed replaced, but it really wasn't a hazard, just a part of the maintenance and is now repaired with new boards where needed and wood preserver as well. The cabin is private from the office with lots of ever green trees and fencing between plus separated by 5 acres so the cabin is extremely private. You cannot see the office through the trees unless you are in driveway, so this is a false statement. And it is just an over exaggeration not to mention an insult to say the owners were inside the cabin with their belongings! Many people leave well before the 11:00 am check out time. If my cleaning girl sees a car gone and it's appoaching 11:00 am, usually the guests have gone. No one was inside the cabin with anyone's belongings. We always look through door window of kitchen before entering and knock as it is clear that guests are gone if the kitchen is picked up. So this is just a false statement. If someone's luggage is in livingroom, we have no way of knowing that unless we walk in. So this two star post is unaccurate for the folks reading this and over dramatic for no reason!
If you want a peaceful quiet place to get away and relax, this is the place! It was perfect for us! From the hot tub to the stunning view…. We were in heaven. Sitting out on the dock watching the sun rise, listening to the birds and the water flow down the river was so relaxing. We could see the mountains too. The wrap around deck was perfect, especially because it rained one day and we could still sit outside and enjoy the views and stay dry. AC worked great. Kitchen was small but clean with a few items there to help you make your favorite meal. We will definitely remember this stay forever.
We had a wonderful relaxing stay at the cabin. Hope to rent again.

About the host

We love old world cabins and history so we had this cabin built in 2007 out of 200-300 year old logs and antique barn wood trim. It is truly a work of art. It's where the historic old world beauty meets the modern day amenities. Just perfect.
The very large fireplace mimics the ones that were built in the 1700s that were used for everything from heat to cooking.
Why they chose this property
This cabin is not just a lodging accommodation, its an experience. It is really authentic with hand made kitchen cabinets. Even the bathroom door is handmade. The majority of this cabin is hand made down to the hand-hewn logs. However it is wonderful to have the modern amenities such as the skylights bringing in natural light, central heat and AC, beautiful chandeliers with dimmers., beautiful stone bathroom with shower, etc. And of course, it's on the Shenandoah River with gorgeous views and easy access into the river.
What makes this property unique
Antique logs, chinking, country porch, dock on river, skylights, location excellent, huge stone wood burning fireplace. The list goes on and on. It's furnished with cool antiques. Perfect place to fall in love with history and nature again or just have a great time hiking and playing in the river.
