This kid-friendly retreat is accessible only by ferry and features two levels full of comfort and convenient amenities. You can reach the ferry terminal in Bay Shore after a 15-minute drive from Long Island MacArthur Airport, meaning you'll be enjoying your sandy paradise in no time. Paid parking is available at 99 Maple Ave. on the right for those arriving at the ferry terminal by car. Walk to the beach each morning, come home to grill and relax on the deck, and take leisurely rides around town on one of the provided bikes. The well-equipped kitchen will also make cooking a breeze; make sure to buy some groceries and goodies at the nearby Ocean Bay Park Market and surprise your guests with savory, full-course meals or quick beach snacks. Once mealtime is over, unwind on the deck that comes equipped with all-new beach chairs and umbrellas, or head back inside to snuggle up on the sofa and watch a fun movie on the smart TV with a refreshing beverage in hand. This retreat also boasts a convenient washer/dryer combo that will allow you to pack light and make space for souvenirs. The king bed features a brand-new memory foam mattress, ensuring a blissful night's rest.
This home is only 1.5 blocks from the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as mere steps from Fire Island SUP Co. - a one-stop shop for watersports lessons and parasailing, paddleboard, and tubing rentals. Seaview is a short five-minute walk away, while Ocean Beach is only a mile from you, giving you even more options while out and about. Spend hot summer days at Sunken Forest a 23-minute walk away, where you can enjoy some shade and take a ranger-led walk through the trees and dunes. After a gorgeous day on the sand, take your pick from the dozens of local restaurants to sate your appetite. Steps away in the neighborhood is Schooner's Inn, a restaurant and bar near the ferry while Flynn's Fire Island is a two-minute walk from you. Dino's on the Bay deli and Island Pantry are a bit further, but well worth the five-minute walk. Island Mermaid and Hideaway are also great dining options one mile away in Ocean Beach. Traveling five miles will take you to the Fire Island Lighthouse, where you can learn about the history of Fire Island and take a tour of the tower.
The other two apartments on the property, Unit 1 and Unit 2, are available to rent as well; all three apartments can be rented together as The Surfcomber Multi-Residence Home.

Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. No smoking is permitted anywhere on the premises. This home has a strict age limit that is monitored for every stay. All members of your party need to be 25 years or older unless they are children accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Vacasa is a registered New York State sales tax vendor. And if Vacasa is the merchant of record will collect sales tax and applicable unit fees on all sales of short-term rental unit occupancy within New York State that it facilitates.

Great weekend on Fire Island
Awesome little beach house right near the dock and short walk to the beach. House was clean and ready to go with beach towels, bikes, and chairs :) Back patio was great for grilling after the beach!
The door code gave us problems but the owners gave us a key instead for the side door.The outside shower and toilet were great. There is only one bathroom downstairs which was a little annoying but we made do. Overall it was the right fit for me and my 3 kids.

The Surfcomber GREAT PLACE!
Clean and efficient, full kitchen and an extra 2nd bathroom come with the outside shower! 1 block to spectacular Ocean beaches, about a mile walk (or bicycle ride) to Ocean Beach. In this town Ocean Bay Park there are several restaurants, a grocery store/deli and marina. A short walk from the ferry.
This property is steps away from the ferry, steps away from the beach and steps away from food, drinks and music. We had a great time. Cassie greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed!!!! She also went out of her way to make my daughters 21st birthday special. Highly recommend this property.
This apartment worked perfect for our family of 6. We had a few snags when we checked in with the storm door but Cassie came and took care of it right away. What we did not realize is that this place is 2 floors and the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. So using the restroom in the middle of the night was tricky but we got through it. Also you no longer have access to the washer and dryer. It’s locked up for only housekeeping to use. It was in a perfect location. Had bikes for all the kids and a wagon! Such a great trip cannot wait to go back◡̈
The property itself was great. Clean. Check in was easy. The issue was with the door into unit 3, the door only locks some times. We wanted to let the hosts know that there was an issue, we did & someone came to look at it. She was an older woman with blondish hair. She was so rude! She had a really bad attitude, acted like we had done something wrong, slammed the door a few times, told us it was fixed and snidely told us not to touch the lock again. She said, in a nasty tone, "well, its fixed now." But it wasn’t fixed and still isnt! She never even said hello to us, never apologized for the inconvenience, nothing. We thought they would want to ensure both ours and theirs property would be protected, instead we were treated with disrespect & spoken down to. We dont know who she was, an owner or a property manager, but either way she was incredibly unprofessional and the complete opposite of what hospitality should be.

I have stayed here before and enjoyed the overall experience. The glass shelf in the bathroom “exploded” but there was nobody even in there. There was glass all over but we cleaned it up. The outside umbrella should be replaced but the outside shower was awesome. Switching the check in time for the check out time, for deep cleaning, is a crock! We basically lost a whole day in the house. We actually paid extra for the additional day that should have been part of our weeks stay.

Great property - bad management
This house is great and in a great location, but our stay was not relaxing. Two primary issues:
- The back patio is NOT private. We spent a good amount of time outside using the deck, outdoor shower, etc. and nowhere in the description do they tell you that cleaning staff will be in and out for hours unannounced using the laundry machines for laundry for the other units. Was very intrusive.
- We did not have any wifi access and it took 2 days of communicating with multiple people who did not know anything about the property or where the router, etc. were to finally get the owner out only to tell us it wouldn't be fixed.
Would not recommend staying here with the current management.

A/C broken the entire stay. Unsafe bunk bed
Upon first entering the unit, we loved it and felt it was just what we needed. It was hot in the unit so we turned the thermostats down and headed off to the beach for the day. When we got back to the room, it was still really hot and humid inside, and even more so upstairs in the bedrooms. We went to dinner, came back later and the place was still so hot and humid. I contacted Vacasa at 9:30pm to let them know the thermostat was set to 64 but the temperature was 80 degrees. At that time it was way past our 3 young children’s bedtime so we buckled down and did what we had to do. We went to bed sweating and uncomfortable. The next morning I received a call from a local team member who was extremely rude to me on the phone, but told me a plumber would be by during the day. By 5:45pm, I contacted Vacasa again to inform them that no one had been by to assess the issue. I then received a call from the same local team member who was not quite as rude but certainly not apologetic by any means, and she soon came by with portable fans (which did nothing but blow around the hot humid air downstairs and in the master bedroom) and a portable A/C unit for the children’s room. We headed out to dinner and returned home at 10:00pm to an even hotter house. The A/C unit had been set to 78 degrees and was blowing hot air. I turned it down to 61 and myself, my husband and all three of our children slept that night in 4 bunk beds. It was unbearably hot going to sleep but did finally cool down in the middle of the night. The bedroom consists of a twin set of bunk beds and a full set of bunk beds. None of the mattresses or pillows are decent quality or comfort. Of course the full was more ideal but the top bunk of the full bed was so unsturdy, I was afraid it would collapse with any normal tossing and turning throughout the night. It was not a very safe or comfortable sleep. The next day I heard from the local team member again, who told me the plumber had come by and assessed the A/C unit only to discover the whole compressor was broken and wouldn’t be fixed during our stay, as we were checking out the next morning. So the 5 of us spent another night in 4 (unsturdy) bunk beds. Upon check out I asked the the local team member what I could expect to happen next… and that prompted her to acknowledge that some sort of compensation should be given. It has now been two weeks since our stay and countless text messages I’ve sent to Vacasa. They have yet to let me know what amount of compensation they’re offering. I was hoping the issues would have been resolved by the time I wrote this review, but no such luck.

A relaxing fall staycation
This Vacasa home was amazing! The size is perfect for families or groups of friends, and the all white interior really gives that classic Fire Island feel. My family had a relaxing 2 night stay. Highly recommend renting the bikes and driving around Ocean Pay Park, Seaview and Ocean Beach.
Property location is great, rented the 1st Unit last year, and Unit 3 this year in 2021. Cleanliness could be better, but over all a great stay. Meave was the property manager, she was very responsive. Definitely one of the nice rentals on the island. The beach chairs for guests and outdoor deck area was a huge plus for us.

Great location
We loved the location of this home. It was clean. Smaller then the pictures show. The bathroom is very small and for a home that sleeps 9 it would be almost impossible to share that one bathroom. The bathroom needs a new shower curtain for sure. The outdoor shower was pretty gross. A little bleach would go a long way. The outdoor cushions were moldy. The rest of the house was clean. The air conditioner in the master bathroom leaked causing the bed to be soaked to the mattress. The person I dealt with with the rental company was very helpful. Very nice they supply you with beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach towels. Great location. Super close to the ferry, ocean and restaurants.

The house is located in an great location everything you could want bike rentals, a store, restaurant bars on the water, an awesome beach and only a mile from the activity of Ocean Beach.
However, the house itself had some terrible issues, it was filthy in places, sheets dirty stained, kitchen coffee grounds left in pot , dirty cleaning paper towels left out on counter. Mold on the bathroom wall by the shower etc But mostly it was the service. Before arriving I had made a small request to have an extra sheet and was denied. In fact I was told to just go and do the laundry if I needed more. As it turned out there were no clean sheets so that is what we had to do. Buy detergent! as there was none and spend precious time washing.
For that reason I can definitely not recommend.

We had our Honeymoon/babymoon stay here June 2021. We where able to bring our dogs. They had beach towels,tables,chairs,bbq,dishwasher, washer and dryer. Theirs a few things here and their that need updates, but who doesn’t. We definitely are thinking of coming back next summer.
Checked in on a Saturday, no working toilet or shower which we noticed upon arrival! Tried to contact management company considering it’s illegal to rent a property without a working bathroom. They didn’t return our phone calls until Sunday afternoon, and didn’t send a plumber until MONDAY!! No working bathroom for 2 full days and a family of 5! Not to mention management company was awful at responding, didn’t even want to reimburse us for any inconvenience.. 10/10 Would not recommend
Unit was updated and very clean. So close to ferry and beach. Plenty of towels and beach chairs. Beds were super comfortable! Very happy with this place!
Desperately needing a beach vacation and wanting to stay in our home state of NY, we decided to check out Fire island on the recommendation of my sons friends who live on Long Island. We were more than happy to find that our long weekend away exceeded any expectations that we had. It’s a stunningly beautiful location and everyone we met was more than friendly and informative. Our rental was exactly as advertised. Cute and comfortable for all! The bathroom was “eh”, super small and could use a little updating but it was functional. We would visit again!
Overall our stay was enjoyable. Great outdoor deck space, comfortable and well laid out. Only issue was level of cleanliness especially in a COVID world.
