About Villas Crete Holidays
Villa Alexandria is exclusively booked Villas Crete Holidays which is a registered Tourist Office, based in Hampshire, England and Almyrida, Crete. Whilst most travel companies cover many different countries and/or areas of Greece and Crete, we at Villas Crete Holidays only work in the North West of Crete and we specialise in the Apokoranas region, just east of the historic Venetian town of Chania. The Apokoronas (including the villages of Almyrida, Kalives, Kokkino Horio, Plaka and Gavalohori) has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort area that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. The area is renowned for its sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, stunning views of Souda Bay and The White Mountains, excellent tavernas, and archaeological sites. The director of Villas Crete Holidays is Frankie Miles. She has worked with rental villas on Crete for more than 20 years and has written the best selling guide book "Crete on the Road". The book includes detailed directions and information to all the major tourist attractions, as well as many hidden sites. Also in the book is the only existing map of the National Highway showing all of the entrances/exits and distances. Both the company itself, and Frankie's book have been featured and recommended in articles in major British newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Telegraph, as well as smaller publications such as Greece Magazine.
Why Villas Crete Holidays chose Apokoronos
Villa Alexandria is the one of the most popular of all of the villas that we handle. It books up in advance because it is not only very beautiful, with such good amenities, but it is also private with fabulous views. With the option of renting the villa during the low season with 3 bedrooms rather than 5, smaller families and couples can stay at that time. Despite the good privacy Villa Alexandria is only 700m from the shops, and tavernas in Plaka. You can walk on a country track, through olive groves to have a delicious meal and a drink (or two) without worrying about driving home. It is very rare to find a villa on Crete that has any form of pool heating but Villa Alexandria does have solar panels to help boost the water temperature. Whilst this form of heating does entirely depend upon the amount of sun each day, and the air temperature at night, it is better than a pool without any form of heating because they are decidedly chilly. Family members who require more privacy, or who are less able, will find the pool house an ideal base.
What makes this Villa unique
All of our villa owners employ a local house manager who you can call should you need any help at the villa itself. We, at Villas Crete Holidays can help you with all aspects of your holiday including good value, reliable car hire, airport transfers, local information about shops, beaches, tavernas etc, detailed driving directions or walking directions for many routes. We can also arrange private boat hire, private boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, horse riding, water-skiing, big game fishing, guided walking, and guided coach excursions. Our office staff speak English, Greek, and a little French, and have a vast list of local contacts, and our part time representative in resort also speaks some Italian. Most importantly, because we handle many villas, in the unlikely event that there is an unforeseen problem at your villa, we can usually offer you an alternative villa (although this cannot be guaranteed in high season). We have many years experience working in tourism on Crete, and most importantly this experience is specifically related to villa rentals. We use all of our knowledge and local contacts to ensure that your holiday goes off smoothly from start to finish, from first booking the villa that is most suitable for you, to your arrival back home. When you are in resort, we remain unobtrusive but are available by phone during office hours for information, and we have an automated answering service should you have a medical emergency out of hours.

Amazing Villa, Great location
We found Plaka by accident in 2018 and thought it was lovely with good amenities so when we looked to booking Crete again we looked for properties in this area. For 8 adults this villa was perfect. The views were to die for and and we could walk easily to the village for shopping and restaurants. I would highly recommend the villa and the instructions that we got for locating it were so good and so precise we had no problems at all. All in all a fantastic holiday.
Family & friends summer holiday
We stayed here for two weeks. We were two families 9 in total. The villa is beautiful and well equipped for everything we needed. The village centre of Plaka is a five minute walk away ( up a steep hill ) where we had some lovely meals in the restaurants.
We would definitely recommend this villa!
Beautiful villa in lovely location
A clean and comfortable villa, perfect for family and friends. Well equipped and a lovely pool.
Would not hesitate to recommend it.
Hello Guillaume, Thank you for your review of Villa Alexandria. I am sorry that when you stayed at the villa the new suite of garden furniture had not been delivered (it was late) and the previous suite was not looking it's best. The new suite of furniture has now been delivered and is comfortable and looking very good. I have had our representative in resort check the kitchen inventory and she has replaced the items that had been broken by previous guests and not reported to us. I hope that we will hear again from you for a return visit so that you can try out the new furniture whilst looking at the amazing view! Best wishes, Frankie at Villas Crete Holidays.
The main square in Plaka is only 700m from Villa Alexandria and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappé. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 7 tavernas, 3 well stocked mini markets, an Italian restaurant, a hair dresser, and 6 cafes.
The lovely village of Almyrida is only 1.8km from Villa Alexandria, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 11 excellent tavernas, 6 cafés, 2 bars, 2 bakeries, 1 Italian ice cream shop, a wonderful jewellery shop, 4 mini-markets, 7 gift shops, a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, an off-license/ drinks shop, a butcher, a nail spa, a health and wellness spa, a hair dresser, 1 kiosk, and 3 real estate offices. Also in Almyrida there is a games centre with pool tables and a variety of games machines, pedalo rentals, a children's play/activity centre with babysitting, a scuba diving office, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat hire, boat trips, horse riding, water-skiing, big game fishing charters, private sight-seeing flights in a light aircraft, guided walking tours, and guided coach excursions.
A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, and the lace makers and folklore museum in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.
Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local wineries can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a copy of the guide book 'Crete on the Road' by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.
Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.
As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.
Villa Alexandria is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains.
The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, bird watching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.
