About this property

Stay at our charming cottage on the Maury River. Less than 3 miles to town and the campuses of Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. Very private with easy river access. 3 Kayaks and 2 person Canoe available for use. Float on the river in tubes that are provided. Play corn hole & then make a fire in the fire pit & roast marshmallows.
Our cute downtown has many shops and there are museums to visit in town and on the campuses. Restaurants are open for business, but reservations are helpful.
The Chessie Trail is only 2 miles away & can be walked or biked. It has beautiful views along the Maury River.
There’s not a better spot than on the porch with a good meal and a nice bottle of wine.

Great family weekend!

Fantastic!

Family of four visited August 2023. Spotlessly clean, beautiful views. We were sad to leave. Large common area for family and lovely screened in porch. Would definitely return.

Retired and loving it. Owners live on 40 acres which includes the River House.
We moved from Oregon the summer of 2017 to enjoy a new experience. We have found Lexington to be a very friendly town with lots to see and do.

Why they chose this property

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! This property is a piece of paradise. We have 1/2 mile of Maury River front and hiking trails through the woods along the river. Winter snows are fantastic for hiking or snowshoeing around the property or sledding down the hill. Our home on the hill has a fantastic view of house mountain and gorgeous sunsets. And did I mention how quiet it is here?

What makes this property unique

Lots of nature and close to amenities. The River House is a place of quiet tranquility. Sit in the living room and see the jade green Maury River flow by. Take out the kayaks and float down to Whistle Creek that flows into the Maury. It is still along the property. Explore the creek and then paddle back up the river. Nice screened porch to hang out on and relax. See unique wildlife. A guest spotted and photographed a bobcat. Eagles fly up the river and lots of geese. Deer abound and so do turkey. We even had a visiting owl each evening right in the yard. And did I mention you might spy a black bear?
