When we first arrived we were greeted by a clean and cozy environment. Karol has done a great job of decorating with fun and unique art, furniture, and light fixtures. I highly appreciate the accommodation of our own custom security code to get into the house, as I've heard of people getting there belongings stolen from b&b's that reuse old security codes. I had an overall 10/10 experience and will definitely be re-booking a stay here in the future!

Just what we wanted

Property was exactly as described. Read reviews that some had issue with the coded door locks, but we had no problems. Street parking was full so we went down the alley and parked behind the house. We stayed in March and got 7” of snow that evening, but accessing the rear parking was no problem even in those conditions. Great communication with owner prior to our stay. Would/will be staying again in the future

Eclectic art hideaway

Loved this little house!! The eclectic array and mediums of art is impressive. We loved reading the booklet provided by the host, Karol, describing the artwork and stories behind it. This house is tucked away in Hamtramck neighborhood and is a gem! We appreciated all the hard work and attention to detail that went into renovating the house. You are in a working class neighborhood rich in multiple cultures and within a short drive to major events around Detroit. We will absolutely rent this place again next time we are in Detroit!

Comfy Hideout

This home renovation was well done and provided clean, comfortable and affordable accommodations for our downtown Detroit visit. It took a while to get the video streaming accessed, but the host was kind to instruct us over the phone until we got it working. The only hesitation was having a hollow core front door between us and the neighborhood. However we never had any issues with neighbors or folks trespassing.Despite the population it was a quiet street. We did not have to worry about parking because we used Lyft but there was seldom a space on the street for a visitor’s vehicle. Without a vehicle, we found choices for non-ethnic food and amenities like bottled water in the neighborhood limited. We would rent this space again, but would be better prepared the second time.

Quirky and clean

I could automatically tell that the person owning the property was artistic and quirky. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the property. It was very clean and had everything I needed. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and smelled good, too! I used the second bedroom as my "office" because it had a nice desk in it. I was able to conduct my online meetings while there. There are restaurants within walking distance and I went to the Wingfellas twice and Fat Salmon once, based on the recommendations left in the pamphlet that was prepared. The neighborhood is older and needs some cleaning. I felt safe and the bus stop was very close. I actually took the bus from the airport, which saved a lot of money. It took a little longer to get there, but I was in no rush and had time. I hope everyone has a great experienced just as I did!!

Car show trip

My grandson and I came up for the car show. Disappointed in the show but loved the house. Location was convenient for everything we did. The entertainment set up for the house was great. There was a book on the kitchen table left by the host with information about the area. I will book again next trip.

Nice quiet neighborhood, wonderful local restaurants, too!

We needed a place to stay that would allow for us to have extra time on Sunday (we ran the Detroit half marathon and it didn't start until 10:30). While this VRBO is out of the city, it is accessible by bus and LYFT and made for a much quieter time (and we were able to pay for the extra day and have time to clean up after the race before heading to the airport. Highly recommend!

Hello friends! I’m currently a busy young adult sharing my time between Detroit, Sarasota and Aspen. I have been in Aspen, Co for the last ten years working as an adventure guide, ski patroller, ski instructor, raft guide and in construction. You may notice some memorabilia from my adventures out west. I also love music, I have been playing and singing for many years and have been recently dabbling in art. Both of my parents are artists. This is my first home and something I have renovated from start to finish along with lots of help from my father, Wojtek. The two of us have put our blood, sweat and tears into this home. It has been constantly changing and developing as me and both of my artist parents attempt to contribute to its unique style and variety. Much of the furniture I have handcrafted and most of the artwork has been painted by my mother, Basia. . It is our first family project. My parents had an interior design business when I was young and I am attempting to take off from where they left off. My dream is to have my own construction and design company and this home was my first step toward that goal. I greatly appreciate any feedback, reviews etc., as any information helps me understand and learn. I am both thrilled and proud to offer our home to you and I truly hope you find it’s charm as appealing and interesting as I do

Why they chose this property

Detroit is not unfamiliar with change and reinvention, and yet for all its complexity, the Motor City is often primarily thought of as the land of automobiles. While this is undeniably a piece of Detroit’s fascinating narrative, the city has a great deal more to offer, particularly in the creative arts, which have long played a prominent role in Detroit’s past (from original urban murals to an iconic record label), and in continuing to shape the ever-changing city today. Museums like MOCAD share the work of brilliant Detroit artists with natives and visitors alike, while also making the case that Detroit is a destination for a diverse, international range of art. Throughout the city, there are extraordinary examples of storied architecture. In rare record shops, music from earlier decades lives on, while contemporary indie bands play in a mix of new venues and old (outrageously awesome) dive bars. Neighborhoods like Midtown (museum district, home to DIA and a transformed retail experience), Downtown (encompasses all of the city’s major stages from economic to operatic and athletic), and Corktown (a hipster dream) have seen waves of new chefs and restaurants come onto the scene. Ferndale is a hip neighborhood just a few minutes away by car. Lots of restaurants and clubs. Several new boutique hotels are promised to debut in the next year or two. So, while what in part makes Detroit cool is that it doesn’t have all the familiar amenities and trends of frequently touristed cities, it is undeniably a city of reinvention. Hamtramck is right in the middle everything which is exactly what I wanted.

What makes this property unique

We are located in Hamtramck, a small two-mile city within Detroit city limits, hat is buzzing with life, culture, and variety. Whether you're interested in the amazing authentic multicultural dining, the budding music and art scene or perhaps want to venture into downtown Detroit located just minutes away it is all available within throwing distance. Hamtramck, otherwise known as “The World In Two Square Miles” was originally settled by Polish immigrants, like yours truly. It still maintains its Eastern European feel, attested to by street murals, and authentic restaurants and deli’s such as Bozeks Market where you can buy the best Polish Deli meats and cheeses outside of Poland. As Hamtramck evolved, it was flooded by people representing many cultures as evidenced today by shops and restaurants catering to many tastes, hailing from India, Iraq, Bangla Desh, Greek, Turkey, and my favorite Yemen, the (Yemen Cafe). If Anthony Bourdain, a world-class traveler and chef saw fit to stop here and explore than you should too! Only minutes away from downtown Detroit, Hamtramck is a wonderful place. Somewhere where you can sit out on the porch (when its warm) and watch true urban life interactions as if in a very tiny New York.
