About this property

A 17th century residence in the Lake Maggiore area

Welcome to Antica Casa Porrani, a charming 17th-century historic residence covering approximately 300 m². The house is named after the Porrani family, who have lived here since its construction, and whose descendants are still the current owners. One of the most distinctive features of the property is the portico, which houses an ancient, still-functioning well — a living testament to the home's long history.

The house is rented in its entirety, though only the areas shown in the photos and described in this listing are accessible to guests.

On the ground floor, you'll find a spacious eat-in kitchen of about 50 m², fully equipped for all your needs, a cozy living room with a sofa, armchairs, and desks, and a bright dining room — perfect for sharing meals together.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms: 3 with a double bed and one with two 19th-century single beds. All rooms feature private bathrooms that have been recently renovated and offer modern comfort. Upon request, an extra bed can be added in each room for children up to 15/16 years of age.

The entire house overlooks a large private garden of 800 m² — an ideal green space to unwind in during the warmer months. Guests are welcome to use the outdoor furniture provided, including benches, deck chairs, and dining tables, to fully enjoy the peace and nature that surround the property.

Very unique. Wonderful place to stay to enjoy that uniqueness. Emanuele is great!

If you are wanting something in a quiet village, close to great vacation locations, something very unique, this is it. Emanuele was always available to answer questions and make the stay even better. This is a home in the style of the 17 century with rooms connected by the courtyard. A bit disorienting at first, but once we were use to it, great. Quiet bedrooms. We enjoyed it very much.

Authentic 16th century house in rural northern Italian village

Life just slowed down the minute we got to this wonderful old house (with amazing bathrooms, comfortable beds, fluffy white towels). When at home, we hung out all the time in the beautiful courtyard, having big meals, chatting, reading, playing cards We are big bikers and the area has many bikers in lycra whizzing along the roads, up and down the hills around Castello Cabiaglio. One day we went to Lake Maggiore to swim and hire a boat; another day we went to Como; another day some folks went to Milan. A visit to the Sacro Monte of Varese (UNESCO heritage site) is a must for all visitors. The countryside is stunning and there are also hikes which begin at the bottom off the village. One favorite was to hike to Orino for dinner at the Crotto Gesiola. We also loved the fresh bread at the bakery, the fruit & veggie guy who comes Monday and Tuesday, and the gelato lady, who comes on Friday nights. It’s not a part of Italy I knew before, but we all fell in love with the area. We only had one car, so we got to know the bus system very well which is very efficient.

Magnificent house in quiet village

This unique house is located in a quaint historic village on a mountain not far from Lake Maggiore and is a great point for day tours in different directions in the area. The house is in fact a large complex of rooms that surround a big and beautiful garden. All rooms are very spacious with nice furniture. On the first floor in one part there is a dining room and lounge with TV. In the other part there is the kitchen, kitchen eating area, pantry, and a toilet. You will find all you wish for in a kitchen within this complex of rooms. Upstairs are two complexes each with two bedrooms and a bathroom for each bedroom. The rooms in each part connect to each other and to the balconies overlooking the patio and gardens, by connecting corridors, making the air flow through the stone house during the evening when the windows are open. The bathrooms are all modern and renovated while the rooms and the rest of the house keep the authentic feeling of this 17th century villa. In the summer a lush grape vine covers the walls and balconies keeping the interior cool. Parking is a two minute walk from the house and is very convenient. A large supermarket is in a town 10 minute drive away. The owners were always online and helpful with advice and requests. Altogether, our family of 5 spent a great week in this house and touring the area.

Wonderful stay at Casa Porrani

This house is a very old though well renovated. The atmosphere from the place is just amazing: it's like living in an old roman house. Even inside, it like you're living outside which is perfect at summer season. The rooms are comfortable, many bathrooms, the patio is just wonderful & obviously, the garden perfect to relax. The place was beyond my expectations. I can only recommend it. Also, the village is very calm & people very nice with tourist.
