About this property

Le Coquelicot-Cosy rural Gite for Families and Couples

Our gites are located in a converted barn adjacent to our home; with a large lawned area to the front and a fully-enclosed garden to the rear there is plenty of room to relax in the Normandy sunshine. Each gite comfortably accommodates up to five guests in three bedrooms and can be booked together for larger parties (please see property reference 1783569 for our other gite)

Upstairs, bedroom one has a comfortable large double bed, with a good-sized wardrobe and a chest of drawers; bedroom two is similarly furnished with a double bed; bedroom three is a single room with a dressing table and a large rail for clothes. There is room for a travel cot in this room. All three rooms are bright and airy, and have small electric radiators for those chillier nights. There is a spacious shower room with toilet on this floor with ample storage for all your toiletries. Please note that this is the only bathroom in the gite.

Downstairs is a large open plan living-area with two large sofas to seat five, a dining table seating five, and a well-appointed kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing-machine, a full size cooker, and a fridge with a small freezer compartment. There is a tv in the lounge area with a range of UK and French channels, a dvd player, and a well-stocked bookshelf with a good selection of novels to suit most tastes.

At the rear of the property, each gite has a patio area with a garden table and chairs, and a barbecue. Judicious planting helps to screen the two areas for added privacy. The remainder of the garden is shared by each gite, and has a swing set for the under 12s, a large grassy area for outdoor games, and our popular above-ground pool with its own seating area. The pool is unheated, and whilst not large, it does provide an opportunity for a cooling dip in the summer months. Guests should note that use of the pool is restricted to paying guests only and is available for use between 10.00 and 19.00 during the months June to September. We kindly ask that users refrain from jumping and diving in the pool as this can damage the pool liner. In times of drought, use of the pool can be restricted, and, similarly, in stormy weather. The rear garden is fully enclosed, and whilst we request that all children are supervised in the pool and the pool area, the garden itself is secure. There is a small store with a selection of outdoor games for all guests to enjoy.

At the front of the property is a parking area for three cars, although four can be accommodated at a push, used by all our guests (please let us know if you are using more than one vehicle) and a further garden area. This is mainly laid to lawn but has a number of seating areas. The lawn is ideal for badminton or even croquet, but this is a lovely spot in which to simply sit and while away the hours!

The gites sit well back from the road, which is mostly used by the local farmers, making La Maison Sans Souci a peaceful place to stay.

We consider our gites to be ideally located for exploring much of what Normandy has to offer. Popular tourist sites such as Mont St Michel, Bayeux, and the DDay Landing Beaches are no more than an hour's drive away. Closer to home, whilst our village has no local commerce, we are five minutes drive from Hambye and ten minutes from Percy, where you will find a range of shops and a small supermarket. Hambye has a wonderful bakery and we suggest you try one of their specialities, la demoiselle, for a yummy dessert. The bakery is currently closed on Monday and Tuesday. On these occasions you can purchase bread and pastries from the little supermarket in Hambye or drive into Percy where you will find three bakeries.

You will find a limited supply of tourist pamphlets in the gites and we strongly suggest a visit to any of our tourist offices, The staff at Villedieu-les-Poeles, Coutances, and St Lo are very helpful, with each town being an easy twenty drive from the gites.

Please note that guests aged over 18 are required to pay a local visitors tax (taxe de sejour) which is currently set at 1 euro per person per night, although this is subject to change.

For years David and I have dreamed of owning a property in France, then in 2011 our dream became a reality. Initially, I moved here in the summer of 2012 on my own whilst David continued working in the UK as an electrician. Finally, David moved here to join me in March 2014. Our love affair with France continues and in May 2015 we finally got married in a lovely ceremony at the Mairie followed by a reception in our garden surrounded by family and friends. France has become our home and we look forward to sharing our little corner with you.
