About this property
Country House, Quinta da Salgueira - a peacful place in the Douro heart
For so many years in the family, Quinta da Salgueira, a typical farm from the world's oldest wine appellation, is located in the heart of the Douro, at river Pinhão Valley, the ideal place to consistently explore the north of Portugal, namely the Douro Valley. We refurbished the old stable into a little charming house, close to the old caretaker's cottage, and we would like to accommodate you as our guest. We hope to give you everything a guest can expect and we will do our best in such a way that you will have a pleasant stay. We will be very pleased on having you with us for three nights, but we think, and we insist with you, that it would be better spending some more time with us, as it is the better way to enjoy the peace and the charming of our Douro. Here, in addition to vineyards, you can hear birds singing and the sound of silence! And, starting in our/your home, you can visit most part of the north of Portugal. We are served by very good roads and till 100Km around you can find, and visit, several of the most beautiful Portuguese towns (Oporto, Braga, Guimarães – where Portugal is born – Barcelos, Chaves, Bragança, Vila Real and Viseu. From our swimming pool you can enjoy a magnificent landscape and, at the end of the day, when we are in the quiet of the swimming pool, very often swallows dive to drink water near us. On demand, we can provide you breakfast (milk, coffee or tea, iogurth, typical bread, butter and homemade jam, sweet and salty cakes – 9 euro each). We look forward to seeing you soon! On behalf of Quinta da Salgueira Francisco and Cristina B de Figueiredo ps the road to the cottage is not paved, it's a old path, so make sure you drive slowly and with care

A very enjoyable week, from start to finish. cozy house in a stunning location. The perfect place to relax & enjoy the peace. Francisco & Cristina are charming hosts, bringing fresh daily bread & sharing their knowledge of the beautiful surrounding area. Already planning our next visit.
We loved staying here. It was very clean and had incredible views. Our host was attentive and very helpful with places to eat and things to do. We enjoyed coming back from touring to drink some wine in our private pool overlooking the vineyards across the valley. The privacy was great with places to sit outdoors in the shade, in the sun, or by the pool.
This was one of our all time favorite places we have stayed. We definitely recommend it.
Our hosts could not have been any more gracious. Francisco speaks excellent English and went out of his way to make us feel at home and to offer guidance as to where we should visit while there and after leaving. This place is off the beaten path and you will need a car to get there, but we loved it and hope to go back someday. Breakfasts while sitting on the covered veranda overlooking the valley were out of this world.
Beautiful, peaceful and romantic - a true hidden gem
I have extensively travelled globally and without a doubt the region and property have a beauty and untouched authentic charm that is unrivalled. The location is remote, but 10 mins for town, peaceful, safe and untouched. Sitting in a beautiful old vineyard amongst a view which is spectacular.
You have all you need in a very very clean rustic home, the bed is comfortable the shower is awesome and powerful, very important items for me (I find nothing worse than a lumpy bed and weak cold dirty shower)…
The hosts are very warm and welcoming and just as charming as the location.
We feel very lucky and fortunate that the host is sharing this place as a rental, it is unique and stunning. Thank you and we will visit again.. this is a special special place.

Wonderful cottage nestled in the heart of Douro Wine Country
Francisco and Cristina are friendly, welcoming hosts. Their cottage is located deep within the Douro Wine Country, and the vista from the terrace is breathtaking. We enjoyed the quiet respite during our morning breakfast and in the evening while drinking wine and looking at the stars. Francisco had several excellent suggestions for lunch and dinner in the area and made sure we had fresh bread for our breakfast. The cottage has a bedroom in a loft and a kitchen, bath and sitting room on the main floor. The bathroom had a wonderful shower and a bathtub! The kitchen was well equipped and included a coffee machine with capsules. We stopped in Alijo on our way to the cottage to pick up food for breakfast. There are many vineyards in the area and several towns worth a visit - our favorite was Lamego. We only booked two nights and wished we had time in our itinerary to stay longer! (Note: the road to the cottage is not paved, so make sure you drive slowly:)
What a wonderful escape after spending a few days in Porto. The road to this remote location is an adventure, if you are up for it! Once you arrive, the view is breathtaking and the authentic countryside quinta experience begins. We enjoyed all the outdoor spaces and gardens, and moved up to the pool area to lengthen sunset watching. The property is resort-like in its details and each day my appreciation for all these features grew. The overall experience was restorative. The rental is clean and comfortable. The charming kitchen is small but had all essentials although we didn't cook much! The bathroom is updated and spacious. The bedroom is in the loft and there was great storage for our luggage. Wifi worked flawlessly. This is a great location to explore the Douro region. We did daily road trips to towns like Pinhao, Peso da Regua, and Lamego. Getting lost in the vineyards was a wonderful experience. And don't forget tastings at other quintas: port, wine and olive oil.Thank you to Francesco for hosting and spoiling us. I won't give away all the details, but we loved the amazing local bread from Favaios every morning! (Visit the Bread and Wine Museum there to better appreciate these local delicacies.) His suggestions for dining and things to do were appreciated and helpful. His love for this quinta is now shared. This is a special place!
We truly enjoyed our short stay at this small family-run Quinta. The owners (and their comedic dogs) are so welcoming. The views from there are stunning and it is a wonderful place to unwind. The accommodations suited us well, albeit the kitchen is very tight. Loads of places to sit outdoors under the vines or by the pool. No WIFI but 4G works well - a good incentive to disconnect and enjoy what the lovely Douro has to offer. Highly recommend!
We had a very happy four nights here and loved it! The cottage itself was very well appointed with lots of lovely outdoor spots to sit and enjoy the amazing views. Francisco and Christina were lovely hosts who gave us great recommendations. They delivered fresh bread every morning and were there if we needed them but otherwise left us to do our thing. This is such a beautiful part of the world and it was a great privilege to stay here.
Anfitriões muito simpáticos.
Pequeno almoço com delicioso pão de Favaios, ainda quente, oferecido Pelo Sr Francisco Figueiredo.
Local ideal para descansar e viver a natureza.

Accueil chaleureux
Accueil vraiment très chaleureux des propriétaires, toujours prêts à rendre service. Gîte propre et mignon + cadre reposant et magnifique. Seul point négatif : l'accès au gîte pour une voiture basse.

A relaxing break
We had a wonderful stay. The accommodation is very pleasant, although the living room is quite small, but this wasn't a problem as we were able to eat all our meals out on the terrace or by the pool, where we could enjoy the views. Francisco and Cristina were the perfect hosts, friendly without being too intrusive.

Kind, fair and generous
Unfortunatly we had had to cancel our trip due to medical reasons just one week before the planned arrival in Quinta da Salgueira, so I can't say anything about the facilities. But what I can say ist that the kindness, fairness and generosity of Francisco and his wife are exceptional! Thank you so much...
