The JungFrau Cabin is a great family oriented cabin located within the Arapahoe National forest at an elevation of 8700’. It is near the towns of Empire, Georgetown and Silver Plume and only 22 miles to Winter Park and 22 miles to Loveland ski area. The cabin is easily reached by driving 1/4 mile off highway 40 on a very smooth, accessible, scenic road that passes beneath gorgeous aspens and pines. We wanted a place that was secluded without being too far off the beaten path, and I'm glad we chose this cabin. This cabin is well maintained and updated where necessary, while still retaining its rustic charm.
It's just minutes from I-70, and centrally located between Denver and Breckenridge/Leadville/etc - making it very easy to get to multiple popular locations in an hour or less.

Thanks David, well said, thanks for staying with us, I hope to see you again.
Comfortable, spacious cabin in a convenient location
We had a wonderful time for New Year's Eve at the Jungfrau cabin. It was larger than we expected and beautifully updated. The fireplace was beautiful and we enjoyed it. Kitchen was also nicely appointed and had all we needed to prepare a special NYE dinner. The heater also worked well - better than we thought it might based on the outdoor temps. The location is great - near Denver (about 1/2 hour from Golden) while also near Winter Park. Enjoyed a scenic drive up to Berthoud Pass to watch the sledders and snowboarders.

Thank you we truly enjoyed you as our guests, please come again.
This cabin in the woods was exactly what my husband and I were looking for. A view through every window! We were comfortable indoors and out. Listening to the constant rushing of Clear Creek was awesome. We loved that we had land to hike right from the front door. In the information book left by the owner, he included a complete history of the cabin and his family. It was very interesting. So glad we got to be even a tiny bit of it’s continued story. We will be returning!!

Thank you Samantha for your kind review and super happy you both had a good time at the JungFrau. Yes nothing better than being able to go out for a hike right from the front door. We look forward to your next visit.
We loved our stay at the JungFrau cabin in Empire. It truly was a unique experience in the woods. The cabin itself is cozy, rustic, and quaint, and much bigger than what we had imagined. The beds were comfortable and the shower was awesome - good water pressure and heat - something we very much appreciated after our days of skiing at Winter Park. We would love to come back here and recommend it others that love cabin life and the wilderness. The history of the cabin itself; the families that have shared it and cared for it over many generations is truly unique and special. Thanks Brock and family for sharing this special little place with others. ;-)
We absolutely LOVED this cabin. We spent most of our time on the covered porch watching the hummingbirds, unless we were down at the creek! We loved how there was no one else around us, and very little traffic on the road. The cabin is cozy and comfortable, retains its rustic charm but nicely updated kitchen and bath. I hadn't realized there isn't a microwave, we did fine without it... just something to know before you go. Waking up to the sound of the creek, looking out to see the trees, then grabbing a cup of coffee and heading to the porch...perfect mountain get away! Our boys enjoyed exploring in the woods and creek. It was wonderful!

Shawna, thank you for your review. Glad your family had a wonderful time at our cabin. Thanks also for mentioning that we don't have a microwave, i'll try to make that more visible on my listing.
My mom and I had the best time together at the JungFrau cabin! It’s the cutest and coziest little cabin in the ‘woods’. It’s right off a well maintained and more weekend traveled road but also surrounded by trees and the sounds of a rolling creek just next to it. The front porch was a bonus for sitting, reading, relaxing, and visiting! The cabin has a rich history within it’s walls so be sure to read the story in the provided binder! Will definitely be back for more soon😊
Brock was so quick to respond to our questions and so pleasant to visit with. Thank you for your hard work in refurbishing and maintaining such a sweet little spot!

Thanks Leslie, I will look forward to your next visit and i'll come up with some more great hiking trails for you to go do while you are here.
This little cabin was a great base camp for exploring the surrounding beauty of Colorado. It's easy to access from the highway, but secluded enough and surrounded by a roaring creek to make you feel like you're alone in nature. It's modern enough to be extremely cozy and comfortable, but quaint enough to make you feel disconnected from the world for a few days. The cabin had everything we needed, including plenty of fun board games and toys to keep the family entertained on a rainy afternoon.
If you're looking to explore the historic town of Georgetown, head up to Keystone, or get in some serious hiking in the surrounding 14ers, this cabin is a perfect place to stay.
This is a gem. Located next to a stream and easy to access, but seems like you are in the middle of no where. Thank you for allowing us to share this great place.
This property was perfect for our needs for a week of skiing. Very close to Loveland and A Basin. The cabin was clean, spacious, and had comfortable beds and pillows. The check in and checkout process was clear and simple and the property owner was very easy to work with. I would surely recommend staying here!
Like others have said, the cabin feels larger in person than in the photos. It's close to major roads but feels secluded. We were able to stick to our original schedule but appreciated that Brock had offered flexibility if the snow impacted our travel plans. We would definitely stay here again.
Cute, cozy cabin with everything you would need for a perfect winter mountain getaway! Brock thought of everything and the cabin was immaculate. The surrounding property is wonderfully secluded, yet easily accessible to the main road. The cabin's location was perfect for us--we were able to visit several ski resorts and spend relaxing afternoons playing in the snowy backcountry surrounding the cabin. Highly recommend!

Julie, thank you for your kind review, glad you and your family enjoyed your stay at our cabin, hope to see you again.
The pics in his add do not do it justice! Beauty all around! Unbelievable experience here. So close to the main highway but you don't know it when you're on the property. Easy to get to, yet feels far away. The river next to the cabin is so breathtaking. Literally steps away from the porch. Brock was SO helpful and never tired of my constant messages before arriving. Everything is updated yet older and charming! So much character, clean and tidy, much more room and space than I even expected. We can't wait to come back here. The snow was constant! We brought 4 kids with us and there are sledding opportunities all around the property! They stayed outside the whole time, no need to worry about traffic or others around. This really was the perfect place for our 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 children! Stay here!!!

Autumn,
Thank you for your thoughtful review. I'm happy you enjoyed your stay at our cabin, please come again.
Wonderful stay. All the amenities we needed. We loved our stay in this great cabin tucked away but yet close enough to several great towns for necessities and dinners out. Had a great stay!
My fiancé and I were looking forward to staying here. However we were grossly disappointed when we got to the cabin for the amount of money we spent for 2 nights the condition of the property was not ok. The shower had mold , the master bedroom had spider webs all over the ceiling, the corners of the blinds were filled with dust, there was spiders in the bathroom. There was only 5 dvds for the tv, no scissors, no lighter stick for the fireplace, and the grill didn’t work. We tried to work with the owner but he was not helpful. Save your money and go somewhere nicer.

Kris,
Thank you for informing me about these problems. i’m so sorry that you had a terrible time at our cabin. I don’t want anyone to come and be unhappy. If everyone were unhappy, I wouldn’t be doing this. Unfortunately, I was not aware of any of your difficulties until after you checked out. I would have been more than happy to help assist on things like lighting the BBQ if only I would have known.
While talking with your boyfriend on the phone after you checked out, he mentioned that he realized that one of the tin ceiling tiles was rusting and that he also knew it was not mold, just rust. There is no mold in the shower. Since that conversation though, I’ve purchased new white enameled tin tiles to replace the plain steel ones and will get them installed soon.
I also checked the BBQ and it is working perfectly, but i’ll get some clear instructions on how to use BBQ in our guest book. I also replaced the lighter for getting fireplace going and will now provide back up matches for when that one goes out. My listing does not say that we have a DVD collection, just a DVD player and TV. As for the spiders, I am sorry about the one spider web on ceiling that we also talked about on phone. No property is perfect, especially a lone cabin in the woods. We work very hard to keep the natural world outside, but now and then a couple spiders may get in.
In the future, reach out during your stay. I think most owners will try hard to accommodate you, I know I would have.
We loved everything about the property except we didn't know we wouldn't have local TV or cable. The owner was very accommodating.

Thanks James, super glad you enjoyed our cabin. Sorry about not having cable tv during your stay. We did finally get our high speed internet connection installed at cabin though. So on your next visit, you'll be able to get internet tv.
My fiancé and I had a great time at the Jung Frau cabin. It was a beautiful and quaint get away spot. It was perfectly clean and ready for us when we got there. So many hummingbirds all day long! As an avid birder that was really cool. The cabin has nice amenities, a spacious kitchen with all the necessary equipment for cooking and a nice bathroom. A very peaceful place, great for a weekend recharge.

Thank you Nate, i'm happy you both enjoyed your stay. Yes those humming birds are a special part of being at the cabin in summer. I'm hoping to get other species of birds to show up more frequently, like the Mountain Blue Jays.
We had an amazing stay and loved this gem of a property. My wife and I enjoyed playing cards on the deck just a stones throw from Clear Creek. Lots of great hiking trails nearby and our kids loved the train ride in Georgetown.

About the host
Your host
As a forth generation Coloradan, I feel i'm as native as it gets. I take advantage of all Colorado has to offer and enjoy living here with my wife and kids. We all get out often to hike, bike, ski and camp throughout the state and of course the HWY 40 corridor where our cabin the JungFrau is located.
Why they chose this property
The JungFrau cabin has quite a history in our family. Even before the current cabin was built back in the mid 1950's, our family was coming into this area. It all started as far back as 1870 when my great grandfather became friends with a family in Kiowa. That family had a mine located up at the end of our road and invited my grandparents to come up and visit. Years later my grand parents made that same journey, but instead of traveling by horse, they came by car. Even with the exhausting trip in a Ford model T, coming all the way from Denver, It must of been such an adventure and a fun thing to do, because they visited often. My grandparents even celebrated their honeymoon there in 1926. Over the years of traveling back and forth, they often paused to admire this little ole cabin on the river that once originally stood on our property. The old cabin was once a resting spot for early travelers in covered wagons pulled by horses on their way to Berthoud pass or local mines in the area. The river provided water for all those thirty visitors and their horses. I imagine my grandparents stopping there to look around, maybe to fill the radiator with water and maybe even do some fishing in the river before heading on. At some point the property became available for purchase. So in 1933 one of my uncles decided it was a good opportunity, so after coughing up $500 he became the proud owner. That old cabin was sort of a wreck from what stories have been told of it. Never the less, my aunts spruced it up and for the next 20 some odd years, my grandparents generation drove up in their model T's to vacation in this very spot. The old cabin had many faults and sometime in the 50's my aunts envisioned a more modern cabin, one that had more modern features like plumbing. That day arrived in 1957 after one of my aunts purchased the property from my uncle for the original deed of $500. Then the new cabin was built and later named JungFrau after my aunt Alley.
What makes this property unique
Relaxing, tranquil setting in the trees along the river. Feel like you're away from it all, but yet only 2 miles from town. Charming cabin with everything you need for you and your families Colorado mountain vacation. Smooth dirt road, provides quick easy access year round.
