About this property

3 Bedroom Cottage Lakeside Hideaway Great for one or two families!

Our cottage is located on Straggle Lake in Harcourt Park, nestled at the southern point of Algonquin Park in the Haliburton Highlands.
The cottage has a great view, southern exposure, and good swimming at the dock.

Whether you choose to relax on the dock, go for a swim, enjoy the view from the deck, fish, use the 2 pedal boats, 2 kayaks or row boat, go for a hike, or enjoy some of the family friendly events run at the Harcourt Park Community Centre, you will enjoy your time here.

The Hazenberg Hideaway is your opportunity to experience Big Straggle Lake’s year-round fishing, great swimming, and general exploration in one of our five boats. At your disposal, are a rowboat, two kayaks, and two pedal boats (one 2-person and one 5-person) that you may use to explore the lake, several islands, and even a hidden passageway to Little Straggle Lake. Our docks are large enough for sunning yourself on hot days or just hanging out with friends on the Muskoka chairs. There is a fire pit overlooking the lake with plenty of seating to host your group (and there should be a moderate amount of firewood at the ready), and a grassy area beside the cottage on which lawn games can be enjoyed, or time spent at the picnic table. We have a full size kitchen with a double sink, microwave, stove/oven, full-sized fridge, and BBQ (with extra propane tanks) for you to use. At your disposal are also many other personal appliances such as a coffee maker, toaster, Actifry (alternative to deep-fryer), George Foreman grill, electric kettle, and blender. There is plenty of storage space for whatever you bring up as well. The living room has a 50’ HD widescreen plasma TV, DVD player, and VCR. There is a small TV, DVD player, and VCR in the kids’ bunkbed room as well. We have satellite TV, lots of VHS tapes, and a few DVDs to watch; books to read; games to play; and even a classic Nintendo Entertainment System, should you find yourself stuck inside on a rainy day, or need something to do in the evening. In the living room, there is a wood-burning stove to which you may curl up, after you build yourself a fire in the evening. And yes, we have unlimited high-speed wi-fi.

Unique cabin comfortable and quiet
Vintage cabin modernized very artistic and creative. Excellent view from the upper loft bedroom of the pond. The cabin is small and has stairs but unless stairs are a problem definitely stay as it is a really relaxing getaway. We loved it. The hosts were great as well.

Why they chose this property

Harcourt Park is a non-profit cottaging corporation in Ontario, Canada, composed of 6,900 acres (28 km2) of land, 18 lakes, and 600 surveyed properties that are individually leased in favour of private ownership. Established in 1959 by the Sumcot Development Corporation, Harcourt Park was designed to provide its residents with the unique opportunity to experience a cottage lifestyle within an unspoiled, protected environment. While a guest in Harcourt Park you have access to all the communal land, trails, and lakes in the Park. Depending on the day of the week and time of year, the Community Centre offers events such as organized bingo, day school, church services, a horseshoe tournament, a Monte Carlo night, and a garage sale. If you wish to venture out of the Park there are a number of interesting shops, restaurants, and attractions that vary in distance from a 20 minute drive to an hour long drive: Essentials: -The Country Store in Harcourt (gas station with emergency groceries & alcohol and a Sundae bar) -Foodland in Wilberforce (decent-sized grocery store) -LCBO (Liquor and beer store) Dining & Entertainment - South Algonquin Diner in Wilberforce (good portions of good food) - The Village Playhouse (Bancroft), excellent little theater for local culture - Highlands Cinema (Kinmount), This is a really cool theater built in the woods attached to a house. They show the newest movies and house a museum of movie memorabilia. It is well worth the drive to check this one out. - Adventures South Algonquin Trails (Elephant Lake Rd), go horseback riding on the trails at the southern end of Algonquin Park. Located on Elephant Lake Road (15-20 min drive) - The Arlington Pub, Maynooth (about 30 min), live music - The area is known as the Geocaching Capital of Canada. So bring along your GPS and go out on the hunt. There are no caches in Harcourt Park as it is private property but there are many that are not too far away, including one of ours ;)
