We absolutely loved our stay. The cabin was just as stated and well organized. We brought groceries with us and had everything we needed. It was the perfect time to visit with the changing leaves, amazing temps and even saw Elk. We’d love to visit again!
The was most secluded place we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in several rentals. It was very clean and we had everything we needed at the cabin. The setting was beautiful! Our favorite thing about this place was being to walk are dog daily on the gorgeous road coming into the cabin.
The cabin was absolutely amazing!!! It was very clean and the bed was so comfortable!! The owners lived next door but not ontop of you and were easy to contact. We were very close to most if the places we wanted to go see. I would definitely recommend to anyone pets because they csn go outside without leashes because we weren't near the highway.
Our hosts were quick to answer questions before booking and incredibly accommodating from pre-arrival through departure. The property exceeded expectations—well stocked with everything you’d need, whether you want to throw together a simple meal or cook something more elaborate. The outdoor decks, table, and chairs would be perfect for relaxing in good weather. Leatherwood sits just over a mile off the main road down a dirt road. The final section is a steep uphill road that is pretty rocky. The hosts describe this accurately, and I agree that a vehicle with ground clearance or AWD/4WD is preferred, but definitely doable otherwise. We visited at the end of fall, and even with most of the leaves down, we could only just make out the hosts’ lights through the trees. Aside from an occasional passing plane, it was pure nature—peaceful, quiet, and with incredible night skies. The property would be very comfortable for a party of four or two couples. The chairs and bedding were very comfortable. Would definitely return

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
This is a quiet, off-grid style property, but several key listing details were not accurate. The home itself was clean, well stocked, and comfortable. There was plenty of space, and we enjoyed the wildlife and surroundings. However, there were several issues future guests should know:Location accuracy:The map location on VRBO was incorrect. The address provided after booking was a mailbox about 10 miles away, and the actual property was 15 minutes from where it appeared on the listing. The host did not respond to requests for clarification, and we had to rely on directions from a previous guest.Air conditioning:Only the living area and master bedroom had A/C. The other bedrooms had no cooling, and the windows lacked screens, so they couldn’t be opened at night. This made those rooms difficult to use in warm weather.WiFi and cell service:WiFi speeds were under 1 Mbps and not usable for streaming despite the Roku listing. There was also no cell service, so working remotely wasn’t possible. “Game room”:The listing mentioned an arcade/game room, but this was not present—just a few board games in a dining area.SummaryThis could be a good fit for guests intentionally seeking a quiet, disconnected stay. However, those expecting reliable internet, accurate location details, or full-home A/C may be disappointed.

Leatherwoodhouse has a great location and is very easy to find using google maps. I checked and vrbo has made an error showing our location incorrectly. The house has central air conditioning along with a window ac unit for the upstairs bedrooms. The window unit is removed during winter and had not been installed since it's march but an unseasonably warm day snuck in for a day and that was unfortunate. The wifi speed has been acceptable for streaming so if the company cannot provide consistent speed I will be installing starlink satelite internet .Our reviews have always been highly rated so I regret any issues , especially when they are out of my control.
We’ve been to Ponca several times over the years, and Leatherwood Cabin has been our favorite place to stay so far. We spent Thanksgiving week with three of our children ages 15,12 and 8, and everyone had such a great time that we didn’t want to go home. The cabin was very comfortable for the five of us, and all of the artwork throughout makes it so charming. The kids enjoyed all of the games in the game room in the endless selection of movies. We will definitely be back!! Thank you Mr. David for the hiking trail suggestions!!!
My dad and I loved staying here! Secluded and quiet. Only thing is maybe don't trust google maps to get to the driveway. It had me go on a grass lane when the ACTUAL driveway was 50 yds further down the road. That's what I get for not using common sense and putting all my faith in technology! Loved the stay though.
We really enjoyed our stay here! The house is conveniently located to trailheads and river activities and very secluded in a beautiful woods. The house is quaint and had everything we needed, including a firepit outside for cooler evenings and a great gas grill on one of the decks. The owner Pam is very kind and quick to respond to messages. The listing says there are two bedrooms upstairs, but it doesn't make it clear that these are separated only by a curtain. We made it work, but some families may prefer a little more privacy.

We hope that you will come again, thank you for choosing to stay with us.
VRBO had wrong location information. Sent us well past the road we should of turned down. Thankfully the owner had posted a sign on the main road that hinted where we should have turned so we did eventuality find the cabin. He also called us to apologize and said he would get the issue corrected as we were the 2nd renters who had that issue. The cabin is definitely off the main road, deep into the woods. The road to the cabin is rugged but well maintained. My SUV had no issues getting to the cabin. The photos of the cabin are accurate. It is super cute inside and out. Inside is very welcoming and the owners have provided everything a family would need ( except food of course). The beds were comfortable and we had good nights rest. Then only negative we had was the furniture outside on the decks was extremely worn. We didnt get to enjoy sitting outside like we thought we would and that was disappointing. Considering the inside was so clean, comfortable and well decorated it was strange the outside wasnt given more attention. Hopefully this is something that will be addressed.
We stayed at leatherwood for one night and headed a couple of miles down the road to the outfitter before starting our paddle trip. Leatherwood is a great and spacious house with everything you need. If you’re driving in the dark the sign can be a bit hard to see but if you’re looking out for it, it’s no problem at all! Would absolutely come back!
This is a beautiful place to stay. House is very nice and well kept. I wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely plan a stay here in the future.
We loved the property, house was very comfortable, location was awesome. Beautiful location, secluded with a great drive in. Can’t wait to go back. Location is great for all our hiking trails.
Lovely cabin and well appointed with everything we needed. The only small downside was the 1.8 mile drive up to the cabin on a dirt road that is better suited for a truck than a minivan! We made it just fine but it was a doozy of a driveway!

About the host
Hosted by Pamla Klenczar
Hi, We are the Klenczars. We love living in this peacheful, secluded area of the Ozarks with our dog Mochie. You might find him visiting you at the cabin especially if you are grilling. He really is a shameless beggar and very friendly. We hope that you will enjoy your stay with us, you can walk to our place from the cabin. Just go thru the Iron Gate at the bottom of the drive, past all of David’s guy treasures til you come to the garden and up the hill to your left is our house. We love visitors but understand that most come here to get away from it all. WELCOME, sit back and relax!
