Perfect Laid Back Beach House

This house has everything you need and it’s close to all you would want on your vacation! Charleston is not far and we took a day trip there!

Great stay on Folly Beach marsh

We had a great time. The house was very nice. The main living space is on the top floor giving a great view of both the marsh and ocean. It does mean lots of stairs to climb, however.

The house is beautiful. The views are incredible with the marsh in the back yard and the ocean view in the front. Porches are the perfect place to drink your coffee or happy hour cocktail while enjoying either view. The proximity to the beach access was fantastic and made for easy, multiple trips back and forth to/from the house and beach. Dog friendly beach after 6 pm was another plus for our family. My only negative comment is the house needs a deep clean. The kitchen cabinets and the pots/pans in the lazy susan are all sticky. Fans, vents, dust etc. The house is truly beautiful but is in definite need of some TLC.

WONDERFUL Beach Escape!

We loved this property! Great , quiet location on Folly. Easy access to beach, and beautiful marsh views from the back deck! We witnessed breathtaking sunrises and sunsets every day. Nice kitchen, well furnished rooms, and comfortable beds. Also very dog friendly....we brought our puppy, and she enjoyed the fenced back yard! We hope to return.

Great property in a quiet location. Loved the fenced yard and being able to bring our dog. If you or your dog has issues with stairs, this isn’t the property for you. Easy to check in/out. We had no issues while staying here for Thanksgiving.

Absolutely perfect in every way

I had a group of 6 celebrating some 50th birthdays. We could NOT have been more pleased with our stay. The house was immaculate, well appointed, in a convenient location (especially regarding beach access.) We especially liked the widow’s watch and the views it allowed. Next time I’m at Folly with a larger group, we shall look no further for a perfect place to stay.

Ninth Christmas on the beaches of SC

The property was just as advertised. Our family, from Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina, enjoyed our time together. Even though it was one of the coldest Christmases we’ve experienced, we had a good time. Property manager responded promptly when we had trouble with the keypad on the second day. We had from two to eight people during our stay.

Great location amazing views

Once upon a Tide exceeded our expectations. Located toward the end on the North side of Folly Beach. Views from the home are amazing. 360*. You can even see the Rav bridge. Common area Is large enough for 6-8 people and located on top floor with the amazing views. Bedrooms were Comfortable and adequate in size. Loved our stay due to location and privacy. Even saw some Dolphin in the causeway.

Enjoyable stay - annual family vacation

We had an enjoyable stay at the property. Comfortable beds, house stocked well with supplies including towels. A bit tough to get all of our supplies & stuff up to 3rd floor. Regarding check in- We were told that if property was ready prior to 4pm we would be notified via text. Didn't receive anything. We arrived about 20-30 minutes prior to 4pm check in and with heat in the mid 90s and lugging all our stuff up 2 flights of stairs, we hoped the code to door was activated but it wasn't. Initially we could not get a hold of anyone via phone but was finally able to receive text to get door open. All in all, would recommend this property. We enjoyed our week!

Needs some maintenance

This property is in a nice location with beautiful views; however, it was not very clean with mold in the upper bathroom, and the fan over the stove was covered with it. The kitchen floors were also noted to be dirty when we used a wet paper towel to wipe up a water spill, and the paper towel came up brown. The stove/oven was unusable the first 2.5 days we were there because the rental company didn’t send anyone for repairs until Monday, a regular business day. I’m assuming to avoid weekend rates. The issue was actually an electrical issue, and the kitchen outlets had to be replaced. Fortunately, the refrigerator was on a different circuit, and we didn’t lose our food. Regular maintenance and cleaning would go along way in making this a better rental property, which has a good layout and is pet friendly with a nice fence in the backyard.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Once Upon a Tide. We have a friendly, professional staff available to rectify any issues to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, the cleaning complaints mentioned above were not reported to us by this guest, and the electrical issue that affected the usability of the oven was only brought to our attention just before 5 pm on Sunday (this guest arrived on Saturday). The electrician arrived at 11 AM on Monday to make the necessary repairs. We did feel terrible about the impact these issues made on our guests’ stay, so, although outside of our rental agreement, we issued a compensation in an effort to make up for the disruption. The electrical problems have been resolved and regular maintenance takes place at this beach home. Unfortunately, appliance failures can not be predicted- but our team will do everything that we can to make repairs happen as quickly as possible when these issues arise.

Unrealized potential...

This house could be great but it’s not yet there. A couple of things not mentioned in the overview, (1) you have to climb to the third floor, not all of it covered, to access the house...every time. (2) you must enter a six digit key code to open the door...every time. Also, many lights either didn’t work or were unplugged and the bath mats were so thick you couldn’t open the bathroom doors or you would wedge the door on the mat. On the main level the bathroom is in the bedroom and the switch did not work anything in the bedroom so finding the bathroom at night was a challenge. The sheets were rubbish but the master bed was extraordinarily comfortable for a rental. We also enjoyed the charcoal grill, however, the outdoor spaces were not really big enough to accommodate our group which was far less than the number this house will sleep. Plus grilling on the ground level with the kitchen three flights up with a six digit key code made grilling less enjoyable than it could be. The neighborhood is quiet but it is 3 miles from the commercial area on the island which has parking fees of $15 - $20. There were ample towels in the hallway but I think it’s a stretch to say the kitchen is well stocked and you have to scootch sideways to access the sitting area. We found the house dark and with the many posted rules and regulations a little unwelcoming. It could be nice with more attention to detail but right now it’s just not.

Hi Bob, thanks for giving us feedback on your vacation experience. Your feedback is very important to us, as we are new homeowners to this vacation home, and have just started renting it out this past year. You made some good suggestions that we will address. Currently, the home does have an elevator, but we are investigating adding a small elevator to handle suitcases and groceries. We have added a notice to the house description to make it clear that renters have to walk up two flights of stairs for the kitchen or top level bedroom. (We had this information in another section). I am sorry that the switches were not working. The issue will be fixed for future renters. We purchased the house because of its great location, which is a walk away from the iconic Morris Island Light House Preserve. We like the quiet. The hustle and bustle of Folly Beach night life is three miles away, which we have posted on our description. We are sorry that you thought the house rules and city rules and regulations are unwelcoming. The City of Folly Beach has made its renter policies extremely strict in the past 2 years, and it is imperative we keep those posted for all renters to abide by. We hope you will stay again, and hope we can fix any negative feelings you had on your past vacation. Thanks so much for your helpful feedback.

Nice house, needs some cleaning

House is well apportioned. Great kitchen supplies. Good beds. Wonderful vie of marsh and small view of ocean. Odd thing is there’s no bathtub in the house, only showers. My toddler grandson did not appreciate that. There is some mold on the ceilings at the A/C vents. Saw dog hair on the wood floor. Close to the beach, quiet enough. Road in front of the house is busy, not safe for young kids to ride bikes.

Perfect Paradise

The home was beautiful! Very close to the beach, unmatched views, spacious for a large group! We hosted friends from Italy and we all had a beautiful vacation. There are a lot of steps which was no problem for us but could be for others. Highly recommend!

Romantic Getaway

We originally booked this property for a group, (3) couples, but only 1 couple was able to make it. Property is very nice and clean, and would work well for group. We wanted to use the grill, but propane was out. We made a phone call and the manager had it replaced and cleaned up within a couple hours. Great stay!
