Domaine de La Fourtonie Swimming Pool & Spa (hectares of woods and meadows)
Domaine la Fourtonie, When Time Stands Still...
“Overlooking the Monclar Forest, where the vast, wild, wooded expanse of the Périgord Noir comes to an end and is suddenly replaced, as far as the eye can see, by the vineyard-dotted landscape that our ancestors called the ‘land of fire,’ La Fourtonie, a historic wine estate nestled within a 50-hectare natural, wooded park, offers accommodation (for 2 to 40 people) and event space (seating for 150 to 200 people).
The estate comprises a complex of mid-18th-century buildings harmoniously arranged on either side of a triple portico “that could be described, if not as a triumphal arch, then at least as a monumental arch” (excerpt from the book *Le Périgord des Chartreuses*).
Large outbuildings that once served as wine cellars, now renovated into a reception hall and a guesthouse (La Closerie, accommodating 5–7 people), face La Chartreuse (accommodating 12–14 people). Extending from the former wine cellar is a Pigeonnier (2 people), with the Orangerie adjoining it. All of these buildings line both sides of a courtyard, whose terraced rear is framed by wooded horizons.
On the estate, and located a short distance away (a 2-minute walk), the Métairie—surrounded by flower-filled meadows—can accommodate about fifteen people. You reach the Métairie via a private path lined with linden trees and century-old oaks.
You can stroll throughout the entire estate, relax by the pool, play tennis, or sit in the evening under the arch and the century-old linden trees and admire the magnificent sunset over the valley from the terrace overlooking the pool and the orchard...
Of the 50 hectares, 10 are used for hay, which is harvested in June.
The park is a nature reserve that has been designated a “wildlife and flora reintroduction zone” for over half a century.
You’re ideally located to visit prestigious vineyards such as Monbazillac and Saint-Émilion, the prehistoric caves of Pêche-Merle, Les Eyzies and Lascaux, the spectacular Rocamadour, and numerous castles and medieval villages such as Sarlat, Monpenzier, and Monflanquin in the Dordogne.
The entire region is rich in history, with many fascinating places to discover and visit, but you can also explore French cuisine through local fruit and vegetable producers and numerous other specialities—not to mention the famous foie gras
For the more active, you can play golf, go horseback riding, paraglide, canyoning on the Dordogne River, or take to the skies—whether in a microlight or skydiving—at Bergerac Airport.
Lembras is a small village that will meet all your needs for everyday essentials like croissants, bread, and excellent wine at reasonable prices. There are numerous local restaurants, ranging from Michelin-starred establishments to small eateries offering great value and flavourful local cuisine.
In Bergerac, you’ll find all the services you need on holiday: a bank, a hypermarket, and the local farmers’ market, which is highly regarded for the quality of its fresh and organic produce.
