About this property

Pondering Pines Cabin/Quiet/Lake Membership/Walk to town/Original 1937 Cabin

Please come and enjoy Pondering Pines Cabin in historic Twain Harte, California, only 2.5 hours from the Bay Area.
Our cabin is one of the original cabins built in 1937.
Our peaceful redwood cabin shares the property with two giant Ponderosa Pine trees. We are located on one of the most beautiful and quiet streets in Twain Harte, just a few blocks away from downtown shops , pee wee golf and restaurants.
The neighboring cabins are only used by the owners which keeps our area very quiet. There is one VRBO cabin right across the street that would work great for extra family members. If you are interested I can give you the VRBO number.
Our cabin also has lots of space between the other cabins and only 2 cabins are located behind ours and they are on a private road! Plenty of room for kids to safely run around!
Pondering Pines Cabin sleeps 8 with 2 bedrooms, a sleeping loft that serves as a third bedroom and two full bathrooms. The upstairs bedroom has a queen and a twin bed. The downstairs bedroom has a queen and twin bed also. The loft has two twins and one full bathroom upstairs and one downstairs as well.

Many Californians know Twain Harte as an excellent vacation destination for families. Some of our renters are third generation Twain Harte vacationers! Pondering Pines Cabin also features lake membership. Great memories can be made spending sunny days on the beach at Twain Harte Lake. Twain Harte Lake is a large swimming lake with fishing, diving boards and water slides. There is a full snack bar that serves everything from burgers and fries to snow cones and ice cream! http://www.thlake.org Winter days can be spent at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort just a ways up the highway.https://www.dodgeridge.com

Charmingly rustic cabin in the trees

Walking distance to town, but tucked away in a quiet neighborhood among the trees. Comfortable beds, a cozy fireplace, and deer to watch out the window. Robert was very helpful and easy to get ahold of when we had questions. A great place to stay in a wonderful little town.

Excellent Comfortable Place for short or long term

Pondering Pines is a a charming cottage for a short or long visit. It has all the amenities that a family needs and then some - plenty of room, beds, games etc. to keep everyone comfortable and occupied. The cabin is close to all the local favorites of Twain Harte. Robert was also accommodating with our some requirements that came up. We would be happy to stay at Pondering Pines again.

Early Valentine's getaway

We had a romantic stay in this mountain cabin, snacking on great cheese, olives and marinated peppers from the Twain Harte market as the sun set, skiing at Dodge Ridge under blue skies, winning enough at the Black Oaks casino to pay for a fantastic seafood buffet, cozying in under homemade quilts for a lazy morning, and enjoying a breakfast of corn meal pancakes at the Little Cottage. Thanks for a great break to our crazy routine!

Such a wonderful getaway!

Our family had such an amazing time staying here for my birthday weekend! Perfectly located in the town of Twaine Harte (which is very lovely) and close to all the snow fun. We spent one day at Dodge Ridge and the next at Leland Snow Park and relaxed inside this cozy cabin during the evenings. The owners were extremely accommodating and their house had everything you could possibly need. From board games and movies our kids had plenty to do and most importantly the house was clean (which is very important to me). Our kids were thanking us for such a great weekend and I would love to visit again during the summer months to enjoy the lake fun! Thank you Robert!!

Lovely cabin!

We had a great experience renting this cozy cabin. The owner could but have been nicer - great communication! The cabin was clean and everything was just as described. There wasn’t much snow when we got there (we weren’t expecting any) but woke up to a few inches of snow Saturday morning. Such a nice surprise! Of course we found lots of snow up the road and spent time at the roadside sledding spot in Long Barn and had a ton of fun playing at Pinecrest. It was so nice going back to the cabin after a long day of snow play - cooking dinner and watching movies by the fire. Wonderful weekend away!

Quiet Cabin

The cabin was great, very clean, we loved it. We spent a lot of time on the deck. The neighborhood was so quiet and it is so close to town. The beds were comfy, we all slept well and the bathrooms were nice. The cabin was creaky, but it was part of the charm. And finally the owners were really great, communication was really good. Thank again for letting us stay.

Fantastic Twain Harte stay!

We come to Twain Harte with family every summer (my boyfriends family has been coming for 50+ years) and rent multiple cabins with lake access. Robert’s cabin was perfect for the 6 of us, as we had 2 couples and 1 pair of friends who stayed in the loft. It was only a couple of minutes walk to downtown, which was great for our evening meetup at mini golf. Robert was extremely communicative and helpful from check-in to check-out. The coffee maker didn’t work and he quickly had someone drop off a new one on the porch. The kitchen was well stocked, and the porch had lots of space and furniture for us to hang out. One thing to note is that the cabin does not come stocked with bath linens (which may have been listed but we did not notice that beforehand) which was fine because we all had extra beach towels. We had a wonderful time, and will definitely keep it in the rotation for future trips!

Great rustic get away

Great rustic style cabin in the woods. Very quiet neighborhood. Well stocked with dishes, paper goods etc. Comfortable beds and living dining area. Lots of deck seating. The only reason I gave it three stars is the floors were pretty dirty. My sox turned really dark. I think the cleaners just vacuum not mop too often. I’m ok with that just wear shoes all the time inside. Didn’t want my grandkids over as there on the floor. Robert is a wonderful and attentive host.

Great Cabin

What a beautiful cabin! All the amenities and creature comforts were there, with the charm of an older cabin. Robert was a great host, very responsive. We enjoyed our nights using the fireplace and watching movies. We had a great time at the snow park about 40min away. Twain Harte is a beautiful little town with great shops. We're looking forward to coming back in the summer!

Simple and Clean

Even though it is not a fancy newly remodel cabin, it has everything you need for a simple weekend getaway with a small family. The place is clean. I went during the Christmas and the hot water works perfectly in the house. It doesn’t bother me a bit, but I want to make aware that the house does not have dish washer nor laundry room. Robert is very responsive via txt and email. Great host , great house!!!

Excellent Host - Lovely Cabin

The cabin is made of wonderful wood and has the charm of an older place, yet it has been modernized for all you need. Bathrooms are great (clean, good water pressure); kitchen is quaint and very easy to navigate - even has a newer floor; furnace works wonderfully if needed. Robert is a great host. He is responsive and friendly. The beds were comfortable and the linens were great quality. Games and a lot of DVD movies were on hand. Easy walk to town as advertised. Only thing I felt needs attention is the two sofas and the lighting in that beautiful room. There are wonderful older sconces, but it's still way too dark in there. I know an LED panel wouldn't match the charm, but it sure would provide light.

Perfect Weekend Getaway!

We had such a wonderful weekend! First off, Robert is a great host and communicator. He provided all the information we needed upfront including helpful recommendations about the area and was quick to respond at all times. The location couldn't be better, very peaceful, and just a short walk to restaurants and shops. The cabin itself is clean, comfortable, has plenty of space, and gives you a homey feeling. It's an excellent location for wildlife viewing too! We saw many deer, birds, squirrels, and even a jackrabbit while relaxing on the deck. We enjoyed our stay very much and can't wait to return!

Hello to all new and returning renters of Pondering Pines Cabin ! We are the Colombo family ! Robert , Susan , Nicole , Tyler and Dominic Colombo. We are the new owners of the Pondering Pines Cabin! We live in Petaluma Ca. I've worked as a garbageman for the last 34 years in San Francisco and my wife is a stay at home mom. We look forward to your stay. We will try to make your visit a great experience !!

Why they chose this property

My family has been vacationing in Twain Harte for about 15 years now. We were looking for a vacation place that had everything. Twain Harte is that place. Twain Harte offers a beautiful swimming and fishing only lake, restaurants within walking distance, Pee Wee golf, hiking trails , golf course , movies in the park , only a few hours from the bay area , snow skiing and much more. Its been a long time dream of mine to own my own vacation place in the mountains. With the support of my wife we were able to make it work.

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is located on a very quiet street yet its within walking distance to restaurants , pee wee golf and your morning coffee and fresh baked scone !!!. Its has a large deck and sits on about 1/4 of an acre.We spend every morning having coffee on the deck and every evening bbqing and enjoying our great view as the sun sets.
Deer can often be seen coming up from the creek down the hill behind the cabin. The creek is too far to hike to. Sorry kids :) On the nights we get back too late from the lake or playing in the snow we often walk to town for a bite at one of the local restaurants. 'The Rock' is very popular! The cabin was built in 1937 but has all the comforts of home. YES! It has central heat !!! We love Twain Harte and we love our cabin. I know you will too. NO PETS ALLOWED
