Casa Vicolo IV is set in a former palazzo (independent building) on 3 floors. It is located on a quiet car-free street in the heart of the former Jewish quarter - la Giudecca - only 2 minutes walk from the sea. It has 2 large bedrooms, 2 recently renovated bathrooms, a spacious modern kitchen, indoor and outdoor living areas including a large terrace for alfresco dining overlooking the rooftops of Ortigia.

Perfect for longs stays, Casa Vicolo IV is light and airy with contrasting textures and textiles and natural elements against a white backdrop. On the terrace is a dining table made of volcanic lava from nearby Mount Etna.

Upon entry there is a hallway that leads to an indoor patio and a living area with an overhead fan and original cement tile floors. A quiet and cool retreat, this space is ideal for reading, doing yoga or taking an afternoon nap.

On the first floor are 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size (160cm) bed, air conditioning and radiator heating, and French doors overlooking either the street or the patio. There are 2 recently renovated bathrooms and between the bedrooms there is a living area with an overhead fan and a smart TV.

Stairs up to the second floor lead to the kitchen and a dining and living area with French doors overlooking the patio with air conditioning and radiator heating, a study desk and a selection of local travel guides. The fully equipped modern kitchen – complete with dishwasher and kitchen appliances – opens onto the terrace.

Within walking distance is access to 3 different swimming areas (rocky swimming point next to Forte Vigliena; the pebble beach Cala Rossa; small sandy beach near the Giardino Aretusa); the Duomo and Archimede squares, the Aretusa fountain and the Apollo temple; historic Jewish baths and puppet theatre; the lovely daily food market; and some of the best granita and gelato in the world!

A limited number of private car parking spaces may be booked on request, providing car access to the island at all times including during ZTL periods ('zona a traffico limitato' i.e. limited traffic zone). Private car parking located 300m from the house at €20/day, with opening hours: Monday-Saturday 7:00am - midnight; Sundays 8:00 - 11:00am and 6:00pm - midnight.

Please note: Our house was recently renovated, with new bathrooms, a radiator heating system and various other improvements (updated photos forthcoming).

Great location. Nice and spacious

This is a very good property. Lots of room, great location, had everything we needed, and air conditioning worked well. The furniture isn't very comfortable and a few things could use an update, but that's not a major problem for us. Overall, it was a good choice for us.

Great holiday stay

Large house in a quiet residential area. Ortigia is small so you are only a few minutes away from lots of cafes and restaurants. Efficient aircon and well equipped kitchen. Sadly we could hardly use the beautiful terrace during the day as there were building renovations next door, but it was lovely in the evening. Great to have the whole house to ourselves.

Our stay in this property was fantastic from the moment we were greeted by Enrico, to the end of our 4 nights. The flat is huge, much larger than the size quoted on the site. The outdoor space was just perfect for us in the mornings and late afternoon and evening. Everything you need for your stay and more is provided including spices, oils and all the little extras that normally you must buy.Enrico was a fabulous host. He sorted out valet parking for us in the old town, which was only slightly more expensive than street parking in the new town. His recommendations of restaurants and places to visit were exceptional.This is a beautiful, comfortable property that we would highly recommend. There is plenty of space, air conditioning is very good, beds comfortable and facilities excellent. We would return in a heart beat!

Great location, nice apartment.

Lovely apartment in a great location. Walking distance of everything Ortigia has to offer, restaurants, shops, sights. Comfortable and well air conditioned, Nice roof terrace but too hot to use when we were there despite awning. We had a couple of issues at the apartment one identified before we arrived and corrected after the weekend. Communication with agent over second issue was less than ideal, resulting in a very frosty check out.

Perfect location in a great town

This was a lovely apartment in a great location. It was quiet, clean and had everything we needed. Stephanie provided us with very good information about Ortigia and great recommendations about where to eat. We had some great weather for March so also spent time eating and relaxing on the terrace. The well appointed kitchen meant that cooking and eating in the apartment was easy to do and the presence of oil, spices etc indicated that others had done this and we added to the supplies. The food market is wonderful and a great place to buy fresh fish, vegetables, cheese etc The building is on three floors which means stairs (not a problem for us) and the middle floor, where the bedrooms are, should be cool in the summer. Our tips for eating out include the lovely Retroscena restaurant around the corner and Cafe Apollo near the market for coffee and pastries, both recommended by Stephanie. Jane and Pete

Fun place to stay!

Enrico was an amazing, responsible property manager who solved problems immediately. Our one annoyance was the tiny, broken washing machine. We did a 20 day stay and had counted on not needing to go to a coin-laundry. Another was the flooding of the alley outside when there's rain--it was like a 3" deep fast-flowing creek. One needs golashas or rubber boots. This also affects the atrium area near the exit to the house--extremely slipery when wet. One other: we did OK, but if you have any trouble climbing stairs, this is not the best place for you. On the positive side: The kitchen was well stocked with necessary utensils, pots, pans, etc. We enjoyed using it to cook food purchased at the local open-air market. The patio was delightful. Heating and cooling worked well. Neighborhood interesting and people delightful. Lots of fun, interesting things to do nearby and great food at reasonable prices if one eats out.

Marvelous Ortigia

We had three glorious weeks in Ortigia which makes this review different than a 4 or 5 day visit as we were settled into the house and all its nuances. Property manager Stephanie did an excellent job with recommendations, problem solving and transportation services. The sunny patio was a delight and the well equipped kitchen was highly used. We had plumbing issues which were addressed immediately but not always successfully. The bathrooms in general need an update. The couches are not very comfortable. They are chaise lounges which is great for reclining but if you want to sit up the depth is too deep and there isn't a back - just cushions. Our biggest qualm with this property was the alleyway; animal waste and trash. We loved Ortigia! We loved the neighborhood, the food, the wine! Just not this house.

Super tolle Wohnung/Haus in bester Lage. Wir hätten nirgendwo anders in Ortigia lieber wohnen wollen. Nur Schritte von der Badestelle entfernt, nicht im lauten Trubel, doch nah an allem. Das Haus ist toll mit gut funktionierenden Klimaanlagen, einer komplett ausgestatteten Küche, wenn man kochen möchte (es gibt viele tolle Restaurants) und einer großen Terrasse auf der man sich gerne aufhält. Wir kommen sicher wieder!

Charmante maison de ville

Séjour parfait dans une maison très agréable, meublée simplement mais avec beaucoup de goût ( aucune fausse note ), patio et terrasse très agréable, cuisine très bien équipée ( une girafe nous a manqué nous qui sommes des cuistots avertis 😜) Situation idéale proximité de la baignade, des lieux historiques place Duomo, cathédrale etc…,restaurants, marché dans le quartier de la Giudecca Accueil parfait de Stéphanie toujours disponible et de très bon conseil pour les adresses dans Ortigia ainsi qu’aux alentours ( plages, boutiques , restaurants , etc…) Ortigia magnifique Nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir
