Casita Barranca has a rich history. Built by Nobel Peace Prize Physicist and widely read author Richard Feynman, it sits on the side of a low beach cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A private stairway, from two intimate ocean front patios, allows for immediate access to a sandy, solitary beach. Spacious ocean-facing windows throughout the property mean you will never miss a great break, or a sunset.

At Casita Barranca, you are only a few steps from one of the best beaches in Baja. Walk in the surf, sunbathe, dig for clams, fish, build sand castles, swim, surf or ride horses on the house's isolated and romantic beach. Guests are afforded an extraordinary view of the Pacific Ocean from this one of a kind house, hidden from view in a gated community. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets can be observed from the interior of the house, the patios or the beach.

Casita Barranca has been newly decorated and completely remodeled. Exquisite Mexican furniture and new appliances, including a Smart TV which can be used to sign into Netflix and your other media accounts, add to your comfort.

Casita Barranca was just as described and exceeded our expectations! It was such a pleasure to walk out our door, down the steps and onto a mostly private beach! Our dogs were free to run and play. We enjoyed relaxing on the terraces, fires in the firepit and the night skies were amazing! Location was ideal for local wine tasting, dinner options, horseback riding. Daily beach combing was an absolute must! The house provided all the conveniences - hot showers, comfy beds, full kitchen, plenty of common spaces plus we so enjoyed and appreciated the unique and artistic features that adorned the home both inside and out! Many thanks for gracious hosts, Michael & Amelia, who were friendly and helpful from booking to checkout and provided excellent local recommendations. We hope to return again soon to Casita Barranca!

My brother sister and I stayed here for a getaway weekend in Fort Collins, and this place was so lovely! It's a short walking distance from Old Town, and in a super quiet nice neighborhood. Would stay there again :)

Love this location. Not many people on the beach. The view is priceless and the accommodations were great. Communication was very timely and helpful. Good surf spot out front when the swell is in the right direction.

Wonderful stay!

We loved everything about our stay. The home was so cozy and comfortable. The beds were especially comfy! We loved the house itself…all the stonework, windows, and outdoor areas. We fished a lot, took long walks on the beach, cooked all our meals in the well-stocked kitchen, and hung out by the fire. Best part of all, we got to reconnect as a family and enjoy each other outside our busy lives. We did bring our lab who absolutely loves the water. I know he had the best weekend too! Thank you, Casita Barranca. We can’t wait to come back!

Excellent House

This is a very excellent property and the owners are very good and enjoyable. We could not have asked for better. The property's amenities and location are really enjoyable--the beach, the sea, the escarpment with terraces, the home. There is a quiet place for everybody to escape to at once, and cozy front room and kitchen for gathering. The wood stove was very enjoyable. This property does not disappoint.

MOVING MEMORIES… MADE IN MEXICO

We were a group of five friends coming from New York City to say goodbye to one of our mothers who is in hospice in Rosarito. This beautiful and historic home on the beach met us with open arms and healed us everyday. After visits to our mother, we would return to the most beautiful sunsets over the ocean, long walks on the beach under the stars, and the comforts of the house: five-star beds, great kitchen, all steps to the sand. Michael and Amelia are wonderful. I highly recommend their gorgeous property.

Dear Thomas, Thank you for pointing out the Pros Regarding the Cons, I have to reply Aged Rusty & Smelly No Window Screens for Fresh Air . The house was built. by Nobel Prize Richard Feynman in the 60’s. After acquiring it some 10 years ago, we remodeled the house, added another bathroom but we did not want to change the architecture , nor the rustic charm as we wanted to preserve the spirit of Richard Feynman. We specifically did not want to add any screen to the windows as we and most of our guests enjoy the free ocean breeze flowing into the house. We never had any complaint about this, you are the first guest to object to this. The house is facing the ocean, it is very possible that when you checked in you felt the humidity in the air if this is what you mean by smelly. Old Bathroom Matts , these have been replaced Dark Bathrooms, Yes the bathrooms have no windows, Gross Closets and Drawers .The closets are the original closets , they are painted periodically as the rest of the house No Washer / Dryer . It is very clearly stated in our site that we do not have washer and dryer, but when asked about it , you had the opportunity to hire the housekeeper to do your laundry Felt Dirty All Around. We take a great pride of providing our guests with a clean house, most of our guests in this site and in other rental sites are giving Casita Barranca a 5 stars for cleanliness. Slow Internet Wireless Very Limited only usable in Livingroom. Casita Barranca is in Mexico, and not in a big city, unfortunately it happens that sometime the internet speed is slow specially if there are many users around. We just purchased a new system and the speed has improved tremendously Multiply photos of same bedroom with different décor. I do not completely understand this statement ? was there any lie about these photos ? In a nut shell, Casita Barranca is not trying to be another house or condo in a sterilized Resort . This is a charming and very comfortable casita on the beach that appeals to most our guests as a refuge on a peaceful and gorgeous beach

Beautiful home

Worth every star. This is a beautiful home in a picturesque setting. The views were breathtaking and the house was very comfortable for my family. The kids loved playing on the beach and I think my favorite part was having fires at night in the fire pit. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything you would need. We cooked every night and found all the necessary utensils. Jose at the gate was helpful and was great about giving directions/suggestions. The best part of this house is definitely the view and location. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the only incredible bummer was that it took us 7 hours to cross the border back into the states with an absolute nightmare of bad to non existent signage and random road closures. The return home almost makes me never want to drive it again - but when the memories return to being at the Casita and our wonderful time there - I may reconsider. Again, 5 stars! Thank you for a lovely stay.

You have to consider that it was a Holiday weekend, therefore a lot a traffic.. You might consider getting a Medical Pass on your next visit . It does help shorten the wait at the border. Whatever you are doing,waking up in the morning, taking a shower, cooking breakfast, reading or talking in the living room,you can watch the sea. We are sure, this is the result of the tremendous effort,Amelia and Michael Kienzl have undertaken, to rebuilt and reconstruct this house of the famous physist Feynman. His everything questioning book "Surely you're joking Mr. Feynman!" in the library has surely inspired the intelligent shaping of the rooms and many details of the interior design. We enjoyed the lonesome beach, the nights full of neverseen stars, the fish market in Ensenada, the twin lobster at famous La Fontana restaurant, where the Hollywood stars in the Prohibition period celebrated their fancy parties. Best spot on the beach!!!

Pros: *literally 34 steps down to the beach. *Views of the ocean from every single room *Amazing neighbors and safe gated community *Lots and lots of patio seating to enjoy the daily dolphin watching as well as a hammock *Daily dolphin watching *Super quiet at night *Clean beach and safe swimming *Easy drive to dining (try Splash down the way; good food and service) *Spacious rooms and bedrooms *Walk In rain showers Cons: *Ants! Ants! And more Ants! Everywhere, on the beds, in the toaster, all over our bath towels. Eight days in and we were done with the ants. I get the heat and humidity brings them in but the house needs to be sprayed really badly to help with this. That is the only reason we couldn’t give it five stars. 😕 * The stairs weren’t a con for us because our kids are teenagers but be warned if you have very small kids or traveling with knee problems or elderly family; the steps are crazy steep, uneven and sharp. We Laid low on our trip so we never spoke with the owners but Amelia has been pleasant all through our booking and check out.

Dear Christy, Thank you for your review. I am glad that you enjoyed our house and our beach I am sorry to hear about the ant infestation. The house is sprayed regularly against bugs and ants . Ants appears when there is a big change in weather and humidity as we are experiencing now. If food is left unattended, then they can really thrive and invade the place. I wish you would have told me when the problem started. We will have taken care of it. It would have been an easy fix We have an excellent product that is very effective. I am a little bit disappointed that you did not communicate with me once you arrived at the house. I always send an e-mail or a message to my guest at their arrival making sure that they are comfortable and to let me know if they need anything. The strange thing is that we have been communicating back and forth prior to your trip, I am sorry that you choose to not contact me about this problem The stairs are uneven, the house being built on a cliff, made it a bit challenging on building spacious and low stairs, therefore we have handrails till the last steps to the beach, there is also an easier way to go to the beach to the right of the stairway II hope very much that this won’t discourage you to come back to our little piece of paradise Amelia

Surpassed expectations

This is a perfectly situated home overlooking the beautiful beach and ocean of Playas la Mision. A quick drive away from fabulous food and wine Valle de Guadalupe. Hosts extremely helpful, thoughtful and courteous. we especially enjoyed the firepit beachside.

I love the history of this house. Richard Feynman was the original owner and his aura is still present. No wonder Mr. Feynman came to this lovely Baja Retreat whenever he could. This unique beach retreat gives me harmony and peace whenever I am here. Richard Feynman’s spirit is still living on.
