About this property

Cozy and stylish historical home in Kingston's Stockade

Welcome to our home away from home! Capture a slice of Kingston's heritage in this historical frame home, built in 1811 by the local sheriff for his daughter. Period features remain with double-hung windows, Federal-style open staircase and fireplaces, while up-to-date furnishings bring contemporary comfort.

You will find the master bedroom downstairs with a queen bed and newly updated ensuite. The downstairs living room features a large sofa that sits 6-8 people and the fireplace can be operated upon request. The kitchen/dining room is bright and cozy, with its own gas fireplace and the table can be set for 8. In the summer, you will look out into a green oasis, and there is a patio with outdoor seating.

Upstairs you will find a generous-sized second bedroom and a smaller third bedroom with queen beds. There is also a large bathroom and a second living room with a tv with Apple TV (use your own login), XL-beanbag and built-in desk. You will also find our favorite room in the house which is the reading nook that looks out onto the historical stone houses of the Stockade. Kingston's burgeoning uptown district with its vibrant restaurants, cafes, and shops is a short stroll away.

The house has central heating and cooling throughout, which is controlled with a Nest thermostat. Other features include keyless entry, laundry, dryer and one parking spot.

A charming house filled with character and history for you to enjoy, just be patient with her quirks!

What a gem

This lovely home is chic but comfortable, and it’s located in a perfect walkable neighborhood—one of my favorite bookstores, Rough Draft, is just a block away. It's a historic house that has been updated without losing its character; it has personality without feeling precious. The floors are beautiful wide plank, the downstairs living room is painted a moody grey and has a big, comfy sofa and a great record collection. The bedrooms are spacious and cozy at the same time. The bathrooms are bright and thoughtfully renovated. The vintage kitchen is charming and functional; there’s coffee for guests and everything is labeled for ease of use. The outdoor patio is lovely. There’s an airy reading nook upstairs. In addition to the house itself, one of my favorite things about being here is the neighborhood: there’s a great bakery, Kingston Bread, nearby. I loved the hats and blues records at Blue Byrd’s Haberdashery. The farmers’ market is here on Saturdays. And Black Eyed Suzie’s food shop has fantastic takeout. It’s perfect for a weekend getaway or to stay awhile. We’ve had great communication with the owner throughout. As he mentions in the listing, the house is old, and it is creaky; I’d recommend renting with people you’re close to because you will definitely hear each other walking around at night. To me that’s part of the charm.
