Welcome to the Urban Fern! This light-filled 1920's bungalow was just completely remodeled, combining vintage Portland charm with modern comfort and amenities.
Perfect location in a close-in Portland neighborhood with great access to the city. On a major bike street just blocks from the MAX train, shops, restaurants, food carts grocery & more. Walk/bike/train to everything you need! Easy to get around without a car but if you bring one there is plenty of free street parking right out front.
*PLEASE read details below and my house rules to make sure you have a successful stay ;-)
Your space is the main level (half of duplex), completely private and only accessible to you. I occupy the detached ADU in the backyard, you may see me outside from afar, if so I will likely waive but won’t bother you.
Note: Entire home (both levels) is also available to rent (see my other listing) perfect if traveling with family or friends.
LIVING ROOM Relax on the sofa, watch Netflix, Prime, Disney Plus & cable (Hulu tv) or curl up with a book. The sofa folds out to a bed with a full size mattress with a latex mattress topper. In warmer months, open the back door and the deck is an extension of the living room. Built-ins store games, puzzles, magazines & books.
KITCHEN A full-size gourmet gas range and microwave make it easy to cook from scratch or reheat your restaurant leftovers. Kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need including quality knives, pots, pans & cooking utensils, and a dishwasher to save on clean-up time.
Make fresh coffee in the morning with the coffee press or Mr Coffee pot. Or walk to one of 5 coffee shops within a 10-minute walk; the nearest (The Stacks) is just one block away or a little further to my favorite - Blend Coffee Lounge.
BATHROOM Soak or shower in the vintage claw foot tub. A linen cabinet stores towels and a shelf for your toiletries. There are two large robes folded in the closet for you to enjoy. Window has a screen & an Indow insert for privacy. *Please note the door to the bathroom is slightly through the bedroom so keep that in mind with guests sleeping on the sofa bed.
BEDROOM Queen size bed with luxury locally made hotel line 12 inch mattress, down comforter & four pillows. Bedroom now has own heat/AC & Indow window inserts & screens for a super quiet night’s sleep. There's a closet with storage for your belongings. A trunk at the end of the bed stores bedding for the sofa bed.
OUTDOOR SPACE During warmer months enjoy your morning coffee or evening beer on the private deck. There are two chairs, a small table & a loveseat rocker.
ARTWORK The barn-wood framed prints hanging throughout the home are made by my sister, an amazing watercolor artist. Just in case you fall in love with one they are all for sale & available to take home with you. Greeting cards & magnets are also available for purchase.
You'll have access to the entire main level of the home, private entrance (yellow door) & back deck. The basement is a separate unit so there may be some limited noise from below but is sound proofed as much as possible.
The only shared space is the laundry room, both units have access to the laundry room but each have their own entrances & secure locks. If you prefer to have no interaction - no problem, just keep the laundry room door closed and locked. You may see me, my family or other guests if accessing the laundry room. You are welcome to use the washer/dryer, laundry soap is available for you to use.
Other things to note:
Kids Not a good fit for young kids as this is a duplex, lots of running/noise is not great for the folks below.
Church Next Door The old church next door is lovely. Most people enjoy hearing the music from the church if on the back deck Sunday morning. Sometimes the beautiful stained glass windows light up in the evening!
Bathtub The bathroom has a claw foot tub/shower combination. Many guests love this old home feature but some may find it difficult to climb in/out of the tub to shower.

We had a wonderful stay at Brooke’s place! One of the cleanest rentals we’ve ever stayed at and such a great location. The Urban Fern was perfect for us and we loved how easy it was to access stores, good restaurants, and other great spots in Portland especially via uber. My husband and I would definitely stay here again and appreciated the communication from Brooke and the detail she put into this rental.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property was cozy, lovely and clean. The property owner (Brooke) was very welcoming. The location was great - close to many things while also being in nice, quiet neighborhood. I would absolutely recommend this to others!
This property is just as described. It was clean, bright, and located close to so many things we wanted and needed to do while here. Communication was excellent and check-in was easy. We would definitely stay here again and will tell our friends and family visiting Portland to check this place out.
Great place and location. Bed was too soft for my liking and water pressure was poor. Very clean and communications was great!

Hi Dan, thanks for the feedback and heads up about the bathroom faucet low water pressure. I addressed the issue (faucet needed a repair) and water pressure is now good 👍
Great and clear communication and ease of stay. Brooke took extra care/steps to ensure things were ready for our visit when we could make it. The location was perfect for us, and a good walking distance of food options (Spitz was a favorite!). Also, Brooke had a handy book that provided some great personal reviews of places to check out while visiting.Overall, the building is a bit older (some creaking boards), but newer appliances, very clean, cool and quiet A/C units, lovely art and well kept. It was a relaxing one night stay for us. Would consider it an option in the future!
We came up for my step-daughter's wedding. It was great to have our very own retreat. I like having the ability to make my own breakfast and the fake eggs at hotels are just gross. This was cute.
I’m from Colorado and have lived in Portland now for 20 years. I’m a full time Reator and busy mom of two teenagers. I love managing my Airbnb, continuing to enrich my space and add fun amenities. I love to travel and learn from other hosts 😊
Why they chose this property
I love the Overlook neighborhood of North Portland. We are close to everything wonderful but feels more relaxed and quiet than the other happening spots. Walkable to fantastic coffee, food, drinks, parks, yoga/Pilates studios, grocery stores and public transport.
What makes this property unique
You get the Portland experience staying in a turn of the century bungalow home. Vintage feel yet remodeled so convenient and comfortable. I’m always adding more amenities to make my guest’s stay even better.
