Swedish-Style Cabin with Lake View and Birch Forest
Caswell Cabin originally was a small one-room hunting cabin off the grid with a barrel-wood stove. After it was acquired by the second owner in 2018, the cabin was relocated on the property and was extensively renovated to include a kitchen, living room area, running water, and a loft. The next year, a large bedroom with a view of the lake, bathroom with a shower, and utility room with washer dryer was added. Today, the Swedish-style cabin has easily regulated heat, electricity, and internet and a deck with view of the lake with a covered area for grilling and dining. It is in a large grove of birch trees on a quiet gravel road that dead-ends a few properties later. The cabin is designed to comfortably accommodate 2-3 people (only non-smoking guests, please). Larger parties can consider renting Birch Haven Yurt (another listing on VRBO) on the adjacent party which is off-the grid, heated with a wood stove, and accommodates 1-2 people. There is a short one-minute trail through the birch forest to get from one property to the other.

This was an out-of-the-way style property. Just what I was looking for. There was a book with tons of information. Very clean and comfortable.

About the host
Hosted by Kathleen A. Frederick
Caswell Cabin is owned by two friends and is used extensively in the winter by dog mushers training for Iditarod, since this area is known for its snowy trails. The Caswell area is home to several dog mushers, who can be seen training on the gravel roads in the fall and early spring. Your host, Kathleen, is an Iditarod musher and adventurer who has travelled to Nome by dog team. Kathleen also has been, variously, a teacher, librarian, attorney, a judge, and a mediator.
Why they chose this property
The cabin exudes peace and serenity and is a great retreat for somebody who likes to walk and bike during the wamer months and snow shoe and cross country ski during the winter months.
What makes this property unique
The gravel roads in the area are ideal for biking and walking. Eat dinner on the covered deck with a view of the lake and pick some fresh veggies from the garden for your salad or make a sandwich and have lunch on the bluff overlooking the lake. Relax, unpug, and rewind in the quiet solitude of the birch forest.
