Fantastic Mountain Cabin Getaway

Wow. Amazing location - So close to the entertainment Gatlinburg brings! It took us a few minutes to drive into downtown. The property is spectacular and in top notch condition - high in the mountains, the perfect getaway! We saw a bear at the top of the driveway. So cool. Can’t wait to come back!

Trip shortened by winter weather

The property was good for our group of 5 family members. We did have to leave early on the last full day as a winter storm warning was calling for 8-10 inches of snow in the mountains. We did have an AWD vehicle but the steep driveway & switchbacks were a concern for getting down the mountain safely. Temps were going to be in the single digits.also for several days. Nice rental, just keep an eye on the weather.

We had trouble with the washer, the host was very gracious and provided us tons of towels and bath cloths, very kind. We saw bears when we arrived. Cozy house. The upstairs was so cute. Host very communicative and responsive. House close enough to town yet far enough away from the crowd. Nice porch.

This cabin was a comfortable stay for my family for our trip to Gatlinburg. We had several visits from black bears for the full Smoky Mountain experience! This is an older cabin, and it lives like an older cabin, which is not an issue, just don’t expect new construction. The benefit to being older is the location is perfect; 5 minutes to Gatlinburg and 10 minutes to the National Park. The cabin is nestled on the mountainside and feels very private. The huge porch was great for morning tea and enjoying the mountain sounds. We had plenty of space with the cabin as our base camp while we visited family and explored the National Park. Overall, our stay was exactly what I was looking for.

Location was great. Outside furniture needs to be worked on. We had 6 people and there is only five forks and two spoons. Shades are too short for a couple of the windows. Ceiling fans don’t work in the bedrooms. A few more things needs to be worked on. But this is a great place to see bears!!

Nice cabin - steep roads and bears

When the owner says bears open car doors, believe him! We weren't there more than 10 mins and a bear had helped himself to some snacks we forgot in the car—no damage to the car, but he clearly knows what he’s doing. His visit didn’t impact our rating. The road to the cabin is steep, narrow, and unguarded. If you're not confident on mountain roads, skip it. The driveway is also steep; we managed in a minivan but wouldn’t risk it in winter. The cabin is clean but modest—no views, just dense woods, with some road noise. Pros: strong water pressure, instant hot water, soft beds, well-stocked kitchen, plenty of towels/blankets. Cons: mold in bathroom, leak over bed, broken sliding door lock, blinds don’t fully close, low shower head downstairs, loud fan upstairs, fridge light out, unstable porch chairs. Owner responded quickly and offered maintenance. He said he'd make property management aware for future visitors. It served our needs, and communication was excellent, but it's not a place we'd likely return to mainly due to the roads and the driveway and wanting something a little quieter/private.

On top of the Mountains!

We had a great time staying at the cabin in the mountains! Owner gave a great tip to make sure we arrived during daylight to assure we could find the cabin. Road to cabin was very windy and steep! Not a lot of seating in living room for a family of 5, all adults, but we made it work. Location is great for downtown Gatlinburg or GSMNP.

Disappointed overall

We were aware going into this that we booked a mountain cabin in the dead of winter (late Jan) but we feel that this cabin is ill equipped to host wintertime guests. It snowed several inches before we got there, and although the roads were clear in all NC/TN, the driveway was a sheet of ice. This was a HUGE issue because the driveway is an extremely steep hill with the house at the bottom. Even walking down it was treacherous when we arrived. Thankfully, after contacting the host, he was able to send a maintenance man to salt the driveway and that helped a lot, we just felt that this should have been done prior to guests arriving since there is only room for 1 car to park at the top of the driveway & carry luggage down. Hot water would only last long enough for a 3-5 minute shower. We were not given enough towels for our group. We asked for extra but they never arrived, thankfully one of us brought her own. One of the kitchen outlets was visibly burnt and none in the kitchen worked. The maintenance man stated that were no GFI outlets in the kitchen (which is required by building code) and it likely caused the issues. Finally, the cabin was not completely clean or ā€œfully stockedā€ as advertised. The kitchen has limited utensils, no shampoo was provided (despite the listing saying it specifically), there was dirt on the floor, and the upstairs bathroom sounds like it has a leak although we couldn’t find it. It was a very cute cabin and we had higher hopes that didn’t pan out.

Sadly, the reviews/rating and title were very miss leading

The reviews/rating and title were very miss leading. Downstairs toilet plugged. We cleared it but no cleaning products to clean toilet. Laundry soap was spilled on the top of the washer and around the washer on the floor. Only one hotel size ā€œsampleā€ soap in each bathroom. Per host ā€œonly intended to get you startedā€. No soap in showers. No kitchen dish soap for hand washing dishes, just soap for the dishwasher. Kitchen garbage had not been taken out. Last occupant did not turn off the Mr. Coffee Maker. It was left turned on. Burnt coffee in carafe. FIRE HAZZARD. Freezer had water leak and frozen water under the ice maker. Chandelier in main room had 3-4 lights burnt out of the 6 lights in fixture. Bathroom also had burnt out light bulb. All beds VERY soft/worn and all bed creaked. MODERN? Back sliding door NO lock just a stick placed to prevent opening. Track filthy. I cannot recommend this Vrbo. What is the host referring to when says ā€œfully stockedā€? It did not have basic essentials we have found as staples at other Vrbos.

Cozy Place for Girls' Trip

Conveniently located near many main attractions, this is a cute and comfortable place to stay and feels quiet and private. With space to enjoy coffee on the porch and watch nature and also room to gather inside for chatting and playing games, this was a perfect pick for our girls' trip!

I love to travel as well. East Tennessee is my home and would love to share its amazing qualities with others!

Why they chose this property

We hope your family enjoys this place as much as mine! It’s truly a fantastic getaway spot if you’re tired of the fast-paced life. One of the things we love most about Don’t Worry, Bear Happy is the location near downtown. You will not have to deal with the typical Gatlinburg traffic here. It feels very secluded away from any neighbors as well! This Chalet was renovated specifically for my family and for other families in mind.

What makes this property unique

Great location, very close to downtown and Ober Gatlinburg. Very secluded with a large wrap-around porch with rocking chairs.
