About this property

COMFORTABLE WARM TWO STOREY HOME

Cosy, warm and spacious two storey home, close to both Whakapapa and Turoa Ski fields. Close to mountain bike tracks and walking tracks for summer activities. Walking distance from the train station and bus station at National Park and walking distance to restaurants and bar. An ideal base for snow activities or for those mountain bike and walking treks, or just to catch your breath and relax . Follow us on instagram @ skishack_nz The only heating in this property is a fireplace. If you are not able to light a fire, then maybe this property is not for you. There is no wifi. We do expect some cleaning as this helps to keep the cost down. This is a kiwi bach and a place to take a step back in time.

There are hot water bottles for those chilly nights.
DUE TO COVID-19 we are now charging for linen. Therefore a linen charge applies and includes, bed linen, pillow slips towels and tea towels. Please make up beds on arrival.

We do not have WIFI at The Ski Shack. It is a place to refresh, relax, reconnect and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

You are more than welcome to bring your own Sky decoder.

Under Kiwi Bach tradition, you are expected to clean the house, follow the house rules, and do the dishes before you leave.

Special conditions:
Has stairs to upstairs bedrooms, small children will have to be watched.
No smoking allowed and No pets allowed.
No shoes to be worn inside. Please take OFF shoes before entering.
NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and wash and dry and put away dishes before you leave.

Family getaway

Was a perfect place to be. Closer to the national park and the shop. House was just right for me and my family. We enjoyed every bit of it. It was just like home away from home. I would like to go back again.

Fair place to stay over

The property location is very amazing. The property is quite old but we managed to make our stay a memorable one. There were some things that was not to our expectation. We got accused for damaging the bathroom door. The hinges came off and we got charged 500.00. We tried to explain but it got unheard.The linen was dusty, was not that comfy. No internet in the house. Overall a fair place to stay over.

nice warm house

we stayed 2 nights, the house was very nice, under floor heating was great. we used the fire place to warm the house. adequate space of the renovated bathrooms were really convenience, walking distance to train station, to the shuttle buses and to the city also another bonus. we really enjoyed those three days over there.

I am sorry to say we were disappointed. It is an old house, smell like an old house. Found dead bugs in the house in different places,Frequently sighted spider webs on the second floor, carpeting in the house seems to be very old.Both Bathrooms were new and excellent, although upstairs bathroom didn’t have mirror. No Wi-Fi was available at this property.We were given a long list of things to do before leaving the property, too bad it was given after booking and before checking in. There is no way I would have booked this property had I known about this list.FYI, I am copying the list here STOVECleaning Stove. Firstly scrape any spills on the ceramic top on the stove immediately with scraper(blade under the sink) Once the stove top cools, squirt some Ceraclen cleaner on surface. Smear allover with handee towel. Wipe off with clean handee towel. Repeat if necessary. Cottage was comfortable, appreciated the 2 bathrooms and underfloor heating. Kitchen very small and little bench space. Disappointing cleaning list for end of stay. Unsure if this cleaning is checked between guests as thick dust on top of fridge, headboard on double bed and on servery between kitchen and dining. Suggest new mop.

Weekend ski getaway

A gorgeous little house with heaps of room. Warm and inviting with underfloor heating and a fire and an amazing shower to top it off. Handy to restaurants so we didn’t need to cook. A quick trip up to Whakapapa for a day skiing for the boys and people watching for me and a friend off the deck at the top of the Sky Waka.

Pleasant, if a bit dated, the property is a work in progress, which is progressively being renovated, so a little “rough “ in places, but fine. The two bathrooms are fabulous, as is the underfloor heating which is amazing and keeps the property really comfortable. There was everything we could want for cooking in the kitchen. Disappointing was the very,VERY long cleaning list, ( provided only after we had paid in full) from asking guests to clean toilets, showers , stove/ microwave/ toaster/ fridge/sweep/vacuum, mop, strip beds,fill up fire wood and sweep verandah. I’m not sure what the “service fee” is for?
