About the host
Hosted by Jon Sanders
Born in Kent, England, I relocated to Kerry in Ireland 35 years ago and have been a resident of New Zealand for 16 years. I have been a professional musician and composer since 1994.
Why they chose this property
The area in and around Owhango, Central North Island NZ typifies the unique semi tropical sub alpine landscape, mixing the pristine environment of Tongariro National Park and its volcanoes with pioneer history and a far older Maori culture. The area offers unequaled year round outdoor activities - skiing, snow boarding, mountain climbing, rainbow and brown trout fishing, mountain biking and is situated on the Te Arora national walkway where walkers spend as long as 6 months to walk the length and breadth of the countries two islands.
What makes this property unique
Cosy in winter, cool in summer, the cedar chalet provides a homely swing backing into Tongariro National Park but in the village on Owhango with its cafe and garage. Sitting on latitude 38, on the doorstep is the unspoilt Ohinetonga reserve and the 42 Traverse which is a 48km wilderness walk through virgin bush
