About this property
Moody Luxury Home in the Wine Region
Summary:
Moody indulgence only 20 minutes from the Hobart CBD and on the fringe of the historic township of Richmond and the Southern Tasmanian wine region. Spend your days exploring the local vineyards and unwinding in this north-facing contemporary home by award-winning architectural firm Terroir which enjoys breathtaking views of the Tea Tree and Coal River Valleys. Fully set up with an art studio, wood heater, chefs kitchen and outdoor fire pit, you will experience a memorable stay.
The Space:
A striking luxury rural retreat nestled into 25 acres of bushland on the doorstep of the historic township of Richmond. Accommodating up to 6 guests across three bedrooms, two of which are furnished with Super King beds and the third bedroom features a King bed.
The spacious Master bedroom is impressive with its panelled feature wall, dramatic yet calming colour scheme and its framed view of the Coal River Valley. A sliding door from the Master suite opens onto a fire pit area where birds, wallabies and echidnas visit regularly.
Enjoy home-cooking in the chef's kitchen or simply unwinding in front of the wood heater in the moody lounge area.
An art studio has been set up for those guests who wish to indulge their creative side, however please note we do not provide art supplies for your stay.
The house is Architect designed and oriented to take in the views across the Tea Tree and Coal River Valleys. At the very top of the property you will find a bench to take in the near-180 degree views of the region.
This remarkable property is less than half an hour from the Hobart CBD and approximately 15 minutes to Hobart Airport.
Guest Access:
Guests will have exclusive use of the property.
The Neighborhood:
The region is best known for creating cool-climate wines from the brisk wind blowing in from the southern ocean and down from the surrounding Meehan Ranges. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling are the most popular grape varieties in the Coal River Valley wine region; working well with the crisp, fresh attributes of a cool-climate wine.
The Coal River Valley wine region is still quite young with the first winery popping up in the 1970s, since then a handful of boutique cellar doors have opened up, each showcasing the great flavours of Tasmania.
The weather conditions can be harsh in Tasmania, especially in the winter, but the surrounding hills of the Valley provide shelter from the westerly winds. Though winter brings its own aspects of beauty, the best time to visit the Coal River Valley is around January to March. The valley takes on a stunning summery vibe, and the energy is infectious.
Every hill, bridge, rock and vineyard in the Coal River Valley has a story to tell, and the best way to retain that knowledge is by allowing an experienced wine tour guide to take you down the rabbit hole and beyond.
Pooley Wines is an incredible sandstone estate nearby and their cellar door showcases all of their elite wines plus they offer a great selection of wood-fired pizzas from 12-3pm, Friday to Sunday (note: bookings are essential).
Their sister vineyard Coinda Vale, which is only 10 minutes away, focuses predominantly on the same three varieties as Pooley's but also showcases Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Directly across the valley from the house is Prospect House offering dinner 7 nights per week in the form of a 5 course Degustation Menu. Lunch is also served Friday to Sunday.
Other notable vineyards in the area include Frogmore Creek, Puddleduck Vineyard (great with Children) and Coal Valley Vineyard which also offer pick your own strawberries in the Summer.
Getting Around:
To make your stay most convenient we would strongly recommend hiring a vehicle.
Please note that when booking and paying by card, a small fee will appear on your statement as a “ReslyPay” charge. This fee is set by the booking platform and is not controlled by us. Thank you for your understanding.
