-a peaceful garden
-watch the native wildlife (birds, pademelons) from one of the two living areas
-built for the Chief Engineer of the Cascade Brewery and his family, it is named after him; “Bowen Toft House”
-some furniture in the house was built by the original owner
-3rd generation family-owned home
ACCESSABILITY:
The house was lived in by my Grandparents until their mid & late 90’s, so it retains those things to help people who may need them
-2 entrances off the road, one has a ramp & only a couple of steps

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
The interior has been designed by Nance to provide carefully curated rooms using new, vintage, and family furniture and décor. The house retains its original features.
-the house was renovated with minimal waste (we even recycled the old tiles for craft use at the local tip)
-we promote recycling & reuse & there are receptacles in the house for recycling
-the house is fully electric, even the BBQ, to help look after our environment
-solar power will be installed in the future
PILLOWS:
We've changed the way we have bed pillows, as we were washing lots of pillowcases for pillows not used. We are always looking at ways to reduce the environmental impact.
There is 1x pillowcase in each spot on the beds & then if you want extras, we have 2 spare in the master wardrobe in bags plus we have a pillow menu of 9 pillows in the cane baskets in the twin single room. So, there are heaps of extra pillows & feel free to use them.
If you use the extra pillows, please leave them out with their cases & ribbons so we know to change them. We believe you can have all the home comforts & still save on waste.
If you want to a copy of the ways we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint & engage with the local community I can send it to you.
THE NEW CONTAINER RECYCLING SCHEME:
We are going to start collecting cans & bottles for recycling. There is a specially marked bin in the kitchen, near the door to the mud room.
All money raised will be used to buy plants for the garden for everyone to enjoy. We want to make a herb garden for guests to use. We will match any money we raised.

About the host
Hosted by Kathryn

Co-host Nance, her daughter Kat & co-host Roger are all family. Family is very important to us, and we like to support each other.
We are all Tasmanian locals & we have all travelled extensively. We have stayed in luxury accommodation to the worst you can imagine. We know what it’s like to be in a new city. We know what it’s like to lose your luggage, to forget to bring shampoo or to have nothing to do when the weather is bad.
