About this property
Marainanga Station Accommodation and more.....
Set in the historic grounds of a working station, The Shearers Quarters is nestled on the bank of the Akitio River. It has recently been renovated with new beds and decor. The layout is typical of a traditional shearers quarters in that it has bedrooms leading onto an external verandah. There is two internal bedrooms. The bedrooms consist of :
4x Queen rooms with 2x king single beds.
4 x single rooms with single bunk beds.
1x Queen room with 1x queen bed and 1x single bed . The Carriage is a seperate building adjacent to The Quarters with 3x bedrooms consisting of 2x KS bed in each. It has power but not bathroom. It’s only skip hop and jump to the bathrooms at The Quarters. In total it sleeps 25 people. Dogs are welcome on application.
Linen provided but please bring your own towels.
We have just completed a renovation by adding a huge living room with french doors opening onto a big deck overlooking the Akitio River. Now with two living rooms it is perfect for big groups and families. Gas has been installed for hot water. It has three showers and two loos. There is plenty of parking and is only a short distance to the untouched, remote coastline and sandy swimming beaches- there's something for everyone. The Akitio Boat Club is open if you need to watch a rugby game or have a drink with fantastic views. As we are a working Station there is generally always someone around to answer questions or help out with anything.
Farm tracks are available to walk or ride your horse. We have a secure yard for your horse with trough water. Bring your own hay.
We have four track options-
5k high rise loop
7km river walk
13km top of the
Extras: cleaning (Required, NZ$60.00 per stay);

About the host
Hosted by cecird555
Matt and Cec Radford have four children and purchased Marainanga in 2017. Ironically, Marainanga was owned by Cec's Great Grandfather and her grandmother was born there in 1919. It has since been out of the family hands for 75 years-that is until 2017!! We are very passionate about the property and feel very humbled to carry on working the land as our forebears did. We have plenty of experience in the hospitality industry. The Vision for the property was to open it up to the public so they can come and share our slice of Paradise and get away from the hustle and bustle of their own lives. The Accommodation is very comfortable with plenty of character and great space-perfect for big gatherings as it has 12 bedrooms.
After many a request we have opened up Farm Tracks so you can ride your own horse or walk over the diverse farmland with exceptional views. Catering is available.

Why they chose this property
The Quarters is in a playground. Akitio beach is great and safe for swimming, surfing and fishing. The tidal Akitio river is awesome for all water activities. We have some lovely marked tracks on the farm for walks and horse rides - BYO horse !!!!
